Me, too. Glumly, I've come to the conclusion that Quinn isn't gonna pan out. Geez, the price we have paid for our QB mistakes, starting with the mishanding of Tim Couch....eh, Toad?

I'm starting to think that whatever QB is left in the front of the third, will be ours Tim Tebow, Tony Pike or Dan LeFevour.
Quinn is likely gone.

Wallace = starter/backup
Delhomme = starter/ backup
pick = watch and learn

j/c...

Obviously the Browns attempts to make a trade with the Eagles (for Kolb) have not been successful, yet.

Bringing Delhome in for a visit might be an attempt to push a possible trade with the Eagles down the road a little further.

OR, it could mean that the Eagles are in no way interested in any deals for Kolb or McNabb, and the Browns are checking into a plan B, signing Delhome and drafting a young QB to groom as our future starter.

People profess their absolute trust in Holmgren

I don't...but I'm sure he's more competent than the shirts that have been in here before.
My opinion is if they sign Delmonte it's for a backup role...and/or to mentor Quinn if he remains.

I would agree. Along those lines, when a player comes for a visit is there any kind of a workout involved? For example, would they have Delhomme throw in order to evaluate what he has left on his arm?

The only way I would even consider accepting Jake Delhomme as a Cleveland Brown is as a 3rd string QB. That's it.

I'd rather take a one-year chance on Delhomme knowing that at best he's a one-year guy while we draft someone else for the future, as opposed to sitting back and hoping that Quinn becomes something he isn't.

At least we know Delhomme had "it" at one point. Quinn...........never did.

People profess their absolute trust in Holmgren. If he sees something in Delhomme and Wallace that he didn't see in Quinn, ok, I'm on board.

I agree.

I don't know what people were expecting. Great QBs usually aren't let go....so you are left with finding the best of the rest.

I myself have always liked Delhomme and thought him a pretty good QB.

He's a lot better than anyone we have had in a good long while..so maybe people need to chill a bit or offer up realistic ways to bring a Matt Ryan or Eli manning to Cleveland.

All of this is the groundwork for the here and now. It has nothing to do with the future. The future will be addressed when we draft a qb....be it this year, next year or the year after.

The main mission at hand is to bring in some solid help and bring the team up to a competitive level.

I see a lot of people have the same feeling as you and I have complete confidence that MH knows more about QB than I do. That said this is all just rumor. At this time Quinn is still a member of the team. I also have very little confidence that Wallace is the answer at the position.

So if Quinn is still the starter at the beginning of the season because MH sees something in Quinn that you don't will you still have that same faith that he knows what he is doing?

Mark Schwab of Channel 19 just reported they caught Delhomme coming out from his visit and he said he couldn't talk at the moment and that he was going to go get a physical.

Yes, but not because of Quinn, but rather because Holmgren has continued to pursue other QB's in spite of the fact Wallace is already here. That means while Quinn may still be a Brown and perhaps the starter at the beginning of the season, it doesn't mean Holmgren believes in him. It more-than-likely means he simply couldn't find a better option.

The writing is now clearly on the wall: They don't believe in Quinn. They may end up stuck with him, which may or may not pan out, but nobody, and I mean nobody, brings in a guy like Delhomme to be the 3rd stringer when the first two guys are Quinn and Wallace. Veteran's who've been in the league as long as Jake make too much money as a guy who isn't supposed to get any snaps, especially on a rebuilding team.

So..............I'm encouraged that Holmgren doesn't believe in Quinn. I may not be encouraged because a really good alternative may not be available.

What's to worry about ? Quinn clearly has not got "it" and our FO believes so . If we get Delhomme to come in to compete with Wallace, we can rest assured that Heckert and Holmgren will do their thing between rounds 3-5 and find their guy for the future . The track records prove it, I like the move so long as there is a competition between Delhomme and Wallace, or Wallace at least gets in on the wildcat / flash package .

I'm not very high on Delhomme at all, but if we sign him clearly they see that he has at least one average year left

I'm for the NO TO JAKE DELHOMME wagon. I wasn't for drafting Quinn, never liked him, would LOVE to see him leave. However nto for the likes of Jake Delhomme. I would rather draft a rookie with some talent (something quinn lacks) than play either of these guys. We need an answer at QB, Delhomme is not the answer, Delhomme is not the answer, Wallace is not the answer, Quinn sure isn't the answer. He's a wimp, who has proven incapable of staying healthy.

My worry is splurging on Bradford with Berry, Haden, Iupati, and other "surefires" on the board. Taking a 3-5 project ain't no big deal. They might do that AND still dump Quinn.

Wallace, mentored by Delhomme, backed up by Ratliff.

I can hardly wait.

There's your key..MH isn't going to give up a high pick for a McNabb or Kolb..and I doubt if he uses one to move up to get Bradford..
Unless something suprising happens I expect them to take a developmental QB ..

Former Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme is still in Cleveland today but is scheduled to visit the Saints on Friday and Saturday, reported NFL.com's Jason La Canfora.

A source told The Plain Dealer that Delhomme would be interested in signing with the Browns as a starter, but that he has great opportunities to be a backup elsewhere. Apparently, one of those chances is in New Orleans.

Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer

It seems like this article says he was offered the backup job. Right?

Hopefully he leaves Cleveland and never goes back. He's from Louisiana and the Saints didn't re-sign Mark Brunell. So that seems like it would be a better fit if he's only being offered a backup job.

I don't read it that way.

To me, it says Delhomme would only agree to be a starter here in Cleveland. If he's going to be forced to take a backup gig, he's more interested in playing for a winner.

I would as well.

I see nothing in that short article indicating what was offered to him.

Ballpeen, are you the one and the same that used to pimp the Tampa RB Errict Rhett years ago. If so I miss your posts on the regular browns site. Delhomme could be a steady veteran presence if he has any Game left. he would be the best backup the Browns have had since their return. but considering the ineptitude in the front office Clark to garcia to Savage to Kokinis is it any wonder the browns fans have been stuck in a "Groundag Day" of never ending football hell since "the Return".

Since Delhomme seriously flamed out on a Jamal Lewis scale I have doubts he is signed. He may no longer Be Jake but just a guy that still goes by that name. It happens all the time. No harm in a long slow look to see what he has.

Delhomme To Mark Schwab: "I'm Going To Take A Physical" Delhomme To Mark Schwab: "I'm Going To Take A Physical"

Cleveland - Jake Delhomme, former Carolina Panthers quarterback, is in town meeting with the Browns about playing for them in 2010. However, he may not leave without signing a deal after telling 19 Action News sports reporter Mark Schwab he couldn't talk because he's "going to take a physical."

This doesn't guarantee he'll be a Brown this season, but it does mean the Browns are interested in his services. According to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, Delhomme has scheduled a visit with New Orleans on Friday and Saturday.

Delhomme was released last week by Carolina after seven seasons as the team's quarterback. He was 58-40 during that span, and lead the team to a Super Bowl in 2003.

The Browns recently acquired Seneca Wallace from the Seattle Seahawks. They also have Brady Quinn still on the roster, but are rumored to be shopping him around the NFL.

Ah.....but that's the truly BEAUTIFUL benefit of hindsight:

We KNOW Delhomme had it.

We KNOW that Quinn hasn't shown it.

If Holmgren and Heckert said they believed Quinn would get it, I'd still continue to say I don't believe in him, but I'd accept that smarter men than I believed otherwise.

As it stands now, they clearly don't believe in him either.

Now, if you want to debate on whether or not it's possible Quinn can find it, we can do that, but that isn't what was said.

A more applicable comparison would be Delhomme to Wallace. I refuse to believe a 5'11 perennial backup in Wallace is going to turn into Delhomme. So this isn't about whether or not anyone believed in Delhomme. It's about whether or not Delhomme was a bonifide starter, and whether or not Quinn is a bonifide starter.

Free agent running back Justin Fargas visited Cleveland Browns today
By Mary Kay Cabot, The Plain Dealer
March 11, 2010, 5:34PM

Associated PressFormer Oakland Raider running back Justin Fargas visited with the Browns on Friday.CLEVELAND -- Free agent running back Justin Fargas, released last week by the Raiders, visited the Browns today, the club confirmed. There was no word yet on whether or not the team will sign him.

He is scheduled to visit the Eagles on Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fargas, a third-round pick of the Raiders in 2003 out of USC, led the club in rushing in 2006-2008, including 1,000-yard seasons in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, he split time with two other backs, finishing second on the team with 491 yards on 129 carries. He also had three TDs.

Fargas missed the end of last season with a knee injury, but is believed to be healthy now. Waived just days before earning a $1.7 million roster bonus, Fargas told reporters the Raiders told him it was strictly about the money.

He said reports that he didn't pass his Raiders physical were untrue.

"I definitely have a lot of football left in me," Fargas told sfgate.com. "I just want to do everything I can to help another team win a championship."

The Browns also confirmed that tight end Ben Watson and quarterback Jake Delhomme were at the Browns facility today.

The fact that nothing has come out about Benjamin Watson makes me feel like he's being signed

To a degree, I understand the interest in Delhomme.. without a doubt I get the Watson thing..

I am afraid that I don't get the Fargas thing. we have Vickers, we can draft a bruiser in the draft,,,

I wouldn't worry too much if we sign Delhomme and he starts, we don't appear to be going after anyone that can catch the ball anyway and Delhomme is as good as anyone handing it off.

Why not Fargas? Is it because he's Fargas, or is it because he's a running back?

I'm TOTALLY on board with getting another back, and I'd MUCH prefer we did it via free agency or a trade.

Here's my case:

Harrison had a good run the last month of the year.

So did Lee Suggs.

All Harrison proved was that he has the talent, but talent was never the problem, it was the durability and the blocking.

Beyond Harrison, who brings his own set of question marks to the table, we have NO running backs with an ounce of credibility. Vickers is a fullback, not a tail-back.

So it makes sense to get a veteran guy who knows his way around the league, as opposed to spending a draft pick on a back.

If we're going to point towards Harrison and say he's proof that drafting a back is the way to go, how many years did it take him to "arrive?" If he wasn't getting dinged, he was whiffing on blocks. He finally admitted he didn't put in the work until just this year.

Now I will say Fargas isn't my first choice. That woulda been Thomas Jones or LT. However, I get the reasoning behind bringing in a guy like Fargas.

I don't think getting a veteran back is a luxury. I think getting a veteran back is a necessity.
