Actually ..... what you risk, beyond all of that, is a potential superstar QB who is capable of taking your team to a Super Bowl.
People look at the price of doing something, but not the cost of doing nothing.
Of course, that's a risk also.. no question
But, and it's a HUGE BUT,, you look at the risk,, is Andrew Luck another Manning or is he Ryan Leaf?
You wanna talk risk,, here's the difference. One guy has actually been in the league, he's in a system that resembles what we are trying to run here and he's coming from a very successful program.
And all it costs you in Money..
Trade a bunch picks for the chance to draft Andrew Luck. Now we've lost the ability to get him some very talented guys around him. RB, RT, WR's, maybe another Olinemen.
Of course, we'll eventually get those things.. But that makes Andrew Luck not the quick fix that people seem to envision.
Contrary to popular belief, if the team sucks, Getting the best QB on the planet won't make it good enough to win. Improvement, well, the ball will get to where it's supposed to but someone still has to catch it. So maybe nothing changes. Just as good a chance of that as anything.
So, do you take a chance on a Flynn and build a good team around him or Do you continue wtih McCoy and build a team around him? or do you get Flynn, let him start, let McCoy sit and learn and build a team around them both using the picks that are there this year and next?
Or
Do you mortgage the future by trading a bunch of picks to get a guy that may be the next Manning.
Remember, you are gonna have to throw Luck into the fire from day one. there is no Payton Manning or Aaron Rodgers in this case. Nobody you pick up off the street is gonna be able to do it unless it's Matt Hassleback. he's the only one I can think of,, or maybe McNabb and as far as I'm concerned, he's done. (please don't tell me that Seneca Wallace is that guy either)
