Loc: Memphis, TN, USA A tribute to the ORIGINAL Dawg Talkers
#185380 - 02/06/03 10:59 AM Edit Reply Quote

I got to thinking about the good ole days, and decided to post this thread in tribute. Aaahh yes, the good ole days. The lawless days just like the old American west! Yep you heard me right. No marshalls (refs). Men and women were free to post as they please! And we did. That is until them desparados and scallywags (trolls) came into town. That's when we needed Marshall Dillon (ref1) ta stepin and root them fellars out! (refs I love you guys, don't understand ya, but love ya )

Anyway I just wanted to recognize the ORIGINAL Dawg Talkers. They are the folks that forged the way for decent folk like yourself to post in these here parts! I do them honor!

Pre-me Dawg Talkers (10/21/00):

Craz Dawg
MOJO
Shep
Saint
PitDawg aka Clebr99
Gobrowns
Shaft
The Babe
TomFran (No Tom Bite Me)
Westcoast
Connecticut (Right around the time I started)
Hooper
DawgPoundGordon
DEVO

These are just the folks I can remember that posted before me. If ya can remember anymore please add there name. I apologize now because I'm sure I missed folks.

Add a story about the good ole days too!

Adding: LairDawg & Diam

You would wake up in the morning and see that a Rats or Black & Pee fan had bombed the board. We would post new threads to move those out. Those were the days.

Although I'm a rookie on this board, I was here pretty early on...you listed a bunch of people I'd forgotten about. Biljac always used to crack me up. I'd go over to the Steeler board undercover just to pick fights with him over there. There was West Coast Dawg's meltdown and Potato wars(they were hilarious), Diamond Dave from Steeler Nation used to come over here and really push my buttons. I remember the Bungles fan you're talking about and it's going to drive me crazy until I remember his name. What about that jerk-off from the Ravens board who posted pictures of himself with David Modell - I think his name was Adam.

Pete was correct. It was Mick and the Iggle's invasion that brought on the stricter board moderation. Took me 3 days to clean the mess up.

For the most part, we did a good job of policing the board ourselves, but with growth comes growing pains.

I tell you that was one of the biggest cyberfights I have ever seen. There was probably less than a quarter of the posters we have today and maybe twice as much traffic. Uncensored traffic boot. It got real ugly.....Strange to look back at it with a small amount of fondness....I mean it is a good thing that we won't ever see it again. But anyway....After Devo's accident with the drunk that jumped the curve, I think he took things to an even more personal level.(As Devo does...lol)

The internet between Philly and Cleveland was really buzzin those days.

Speaking of leaving the board, remember when the refs first started? "Censoring" I believe they called it. The mass of posters that left to go to "the darkside." I remember I posted a thread chastising everyone. Newbies vs. Oldtimers. I made friends that day!

Another thing about those days is that there was no Smack Shack, so the smack and the football talk kind of ran together. It got pretty sloppy sometimes - but it tended to spice things up a lot too.

Has it been that long already? Though I was not one of the "originals" I did manage to find this board and register on 10/24/00.

When did the first board start? I think I remember the board discussing the Orlando Brown/Jeff Tripplette thing but that was in DEC 99 and I know the board had a lot of discussion about the draft of 2000. I wanted Arrington and most on the board wanted Brown.

It seems to me that the dates of registration shown in our profiles are not the dates that some of us actually started on the original board. Help me out folks..

That's when I started getting into posting a lot was during the Arrington/Brown or trade down debate. I'm glad we're not picking first or anywhere near it anymore, but that draft was a lot of fun to speculate on. I was also for Arrington.

Oh how I cry, I've been left out.

I was on from the start and had to sign back up last year. I started posting as a sophomore in college, a college which I failed out of thanks mostly in part to Mojo giving me a free ticket to an Eagles game and me skipping a test the next day - the first of many skipped tests lol, through a broadcasting school and now the early stages of employment.

I love this board but don't post that much anymore because most of it is semi-ignorance so I pick through and post once in awhile.

Ah the good ole days.

Everyone always forgets the little fat kid in the corner (me).

Was fun back in the day (Pit, need me to explain this to you again). Spent tons of time on this board back then, probably too much. But luckily I think the only arguements I got into on the board is when I first started, and Clebr99/Pit showed me the light on Lil' Petey.

And Mojo, I'm still working on getting that picture colored for my Inner Circle membership fee.

Tenn.. First off.. may I extend a heartfelt thank you for the great trip dowm memory lane.. And Craz my friend.. it is absolutely AWESOME to see you post again. It os my opinion that I should mention something all of you forgot to do.. The unforgettable visual of THE CRAZ marching thru the house on game day in his birthday suit!!! I would LMFAO all morning after I saw that on Sunday as soon as I hopped outta bed LOL.. Gawd.. I used to have tears rolling down my cheeks..

I came in about the time the spud wars was winding down.. and made some great friends here.. I do recall on post for some damn reason.. WCD standing on top of Terminal Tower hurling down lightning bolts and granting wishes.. LOL

Lo and behold.. after a bit of searching I located one of the times I posted some years ago.. enjoy the trip down memory lane War, Mojo, Little Brownie, Shep and Diam.. The thread was entitled: I am a Browns Fan!

That mean's i will support my team and coach and fellow fan's in time of Glory and Defeat,
Our team and fan's need True Brown's fan's to surface, Not just the bandwagon fan's who felt like we were going to be a top NFL team in our second season,

I support OUR TEAM 100%

It's tough right now, And this will show who has CHARACTER on our team and fan's

I can handle it my shoulder's are broad,

Now War, lets not start slinging that "Real Fan" stuff.....We all watch our team, we all still root for our team, and most of us are so frustrated by this season, you would think we were on the team.
Now all of us fans who come here and post our complaint's couldfind a more creative way to express our emotions if you prefer, maybe hold it all in then one day let it all out by climbing a clocktower with a high power rifle wearing boxer shorts, swimfins, a big gold necklace, and our blow-up Browns helmets so we could keep picking of Modell over and over and over and over agian.
Ofcourse I'm just kidding.....I never wear jewelry.........lol

War and Mojo, If your implying that a fan that criticizes the blunders that were performed on the field last sunday as a "fair weather fan" your sadly mistaken. Part of being a "True Fan" is to disect the performance of the team, Crititicize the weak and reward the strong. If your child does somthing wrong, you don't ignore it and move on, (at least I hope you don't) You address the problem. This site is a place for the FANS to do the same thing. A "fairweather fan" is simply a fan who enjoys the wins and ignores the losses. Win or lose, I'm a Browns fan. But I will speak out when our team performs like they did Sunday. If your excepting of the way the Browns played Sunday your not a better fan your just a much Different Fan. As a Fan, I don't except Sunday performance and I don't think ANY True Fan should.

When our team is on a roll that's when all the so called fans will be coming out of the woodwork and telling everybody how they have been supportive of the team all along, but everybody on this board knows who has been there thru the hard times with the team.
We are still a couple of years away from playing for it all.
We need to let the team know that the best darn fans in the nfl are right here in cleveland

I can handle it, I know for a fact no team want's what has happened to us to happen to them,
Our player's and coach's and fan's need all the support we can give,

Right now seeing a sack get's me fired up and WOOFING WOOFWOOF,

And if Wynn could get a 2 yd TD pass i'd be WOOFING WOOFWOOF

A punt return a kick off return for over 40 yd's would get a WOOFWOOF.

Fan's i realize what our team is up against right now,

We lost the Tenn Game but man ol man 7 turnover's i was so damm excited, It was one of our better game's of the year. And believe you me i will alway's remember that game, Our Defense was awesome that day.

Our offense is a different animal than what we begun with, Our Depth will come but not in our second year, Any team in the league would have problem's moving the ball losing as many player's as we have.

Emotion's can sometime's cloud the overall picture,

And i know as bad as it is for us it's got to be 100% harder being a player or coach going though this, And i'm going to show them my support and let them know"

I do wish we were like the Eagle's, never having to worry that somebody else is looking to get our team, never having to worry about having to start over and have fans come to our board telling us how great they are, because for the first time since Jawarski we are competitive....I mean for the first time in a while.....
I wish we were like the Eagles, knowing no matter how good or bad we played, nobody wanted our team......

What is a Browns fan? Lemme give you MY version. I took my 5 year old son to his first game this year at home against the ratbirds, I took him to to Dawg Talk Island, formerly known (by his request) as Hooper Island. The Browns fans there, Shep, Diam, Hooper and others treated him with such class, throwing the football with him.. and introducing him to the comeraderie that is only known to those that are family. Hoopers friends quickly unloaded the scooter and loaned it to him, to which the lil man hadn'nt seen before and learned in 12 seconds. Pre game tailgate over, I walked him over to CBS, I was wearing #19 he was wearing #2, several OMG cute Browns babes came over and thanked me for bringing him and commented on my passing the torch. I got up to the gate and I lost it. I pulled him over and whispered to my son.. Always have been, always will be. My gift to my son this year will be a framed set of that pic of us at DTI and our tickets. Hooper, please tell your friends I am forever grateful. Bless you all and may you climb the ladder to the stars and may you stay forever young.

Although not an original, I've been around here for a while myself now that I look at it. I recall all of those posters, (and still see some on The Darkside and Digital Dawgs). One of the best memeories I have of a poster was RaisingCane. That guy just went off like a madman, and him and I danced here and on the Darkside till he was Banned from here, then disappeared. Two other posters I recall were Bengals fans named Stipres, and Stripes Brother. Had quite a few good laughs smakking those guys around.

I just love watchng and participating in the soap opera-like drama that unfolds on some of these boards. All the turmoil on the original Darkside, then the emergence of it by the hands of Devo, and DD by Babe.

I can't recall who stated it earlier in the thread, but he football talk used to be sooo much better here. That I agree with. But change was bound to come along.

It was never proven but widely believed that he was Chick Ludwig, a writer for a Cincy newspaper.

Actually Chick is a sports writer for the Dayton Daily News that covers, you guessed it, The BUNGLES. Once I threatened to send one of his post to the editor, of the rag in which he works, he crawled back into his bungled web which he writes each and every day, never to be heard from again.......

The Inner Circle was hilarious!!!!!!!

It was definately different. First of all, there was only one forum. Secondly, instead of masses of people, it was a relatively small group of differing opinions so the conversations were more intimate and lengthy. This simply made for fewer threads (instead of the 100 threads for each topic that we have now). That's why the "old-timers" have a cow now when there are multiple threads.

It was fun. We all got to know eachother, and when other fans "raided" we went en masse. I've been kicked off a few boards.

But that was then, and this is now. Now I work instead of post...

(Gee - I didn't know that I made KingTut flunk... that's a shame.)

Wow...looks like I'm pre-you too
3/10/00 12:00 PM

Prior to that, I posted on the old NFL.com boards before they were phased out. DawgDay99 is the only guy I see here from time to time that I remember from those boards.

I learned 90% of what I know about football through boards like this. Although the football talk has diminished somewhat, it still remains the best site out there. (I still miss BTNG though!)

I'm more of a reader than a poster myself too. I love to read up on rumors and articles I'm too lazy to find myself. I don't know a lot of you very well because I've been such an infrequent poster, but I'm almost always here, reading what you write and LMAO!

Great board, great thread...

I'm just a few days shy of 3 years (will be 3 on 2/17). Don't post as much as I first did, but do pop in from time to time.

As Mojo said, back in the day, it was all one forum, and the discussions would get to be longer with more people participating.

I still love this place, but the site in my signature, is, of course, my personal baby, so I spend the majority of my time there (over 4000 in just under a year). But most everyone sees me popping into different threads from time to time.

Oh, and if ya wanna blame someone for my presence here, it's all Diam's fault. He brought me here from my days over at ESPN football chat. So he's to blame the poster that is the Babe!

Saint~Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I had forgotten about that thread and good to see some old names brought up again.

And to whoever asked about Buckeye27. He's still alive, last I heard from him was in December, I think. Doesn't get online much though.

I'll be here 3 years this Saturday...2/8/03. You can all send anniversary presents to me if you like.

The board used to be more like a chat room back then. Especially after a bunch of us met at the first Dawg Talk Day. I'll never forget meeting Gordon, Mojo, Diam, Shep and others that day. We would post on the board, and IM at the same time with each other. I think thanks to this board we all became computer nerds every spare moment we had. It was so fun. Ahhhhh, the good ole days.

The Inner Circle was hilarious, who the heck started that?!? LOL

And Devo, Devo, Devo....who can forget his insightful and colorful posts.

Thanks for bringing back some fond memories!

Awesome thread TENN - it's great to see so many old familiar names popping up here. I'd completely forgotten about Hank the Tank.

Even though I never made the "inner circle" roster, I have been registered since 9/5/00 and read the board for a couple months before that.

Those were the good ol days!!

There are 2 threads that haven't been mentioned that I thought were really memorable.....at least for me.....

First is the one thread EVERYONE padded their post count on.....the "Let's see if we can get to 1000 posts before the season starts".......Boy the refs would have a cow or 2 if we tried that one again.....LOL And it was a lot harder to accomplish than it sounds.

But one of my favorites and Saint somewhat eluded to it...was the one Diam started....."Come one, come all, Old timers tell your stories here".......That was such a great thread and I think EVERYONE was at the edge of thier seats waiting for crazdawg's next story. It was a fantastic thread that I think really brought alot of these Original Dawg Talkers together. I don't think we can thank crazdawg and mommadawg enough.

I remember the "fagsmak" thread! I think that one probably would draw some attention from the refs too! That's where the gif of the big fat male belly dance came from!

Hank the Tank posts regularly on the AFC North Rantatorium. He is mercilessly and brutally pounded to pulp after ever thread he posts on or starts. He is quite possibly the strangest person I've ever seen on the net. Michael Jackson would find this guy weird. And for the most part, he pretty much deserves everything he gets.

Hank has a flair for the flambouyant. You could be like those tards on the rant and make things up about him, but I've said this before...

he is a Browns fan
he had his own section made for him at the Ravens Nest
I don't think I've ever seen the guy mad on the net

...all that and the guy carried the Olympic Torch when it was here for the Salt Lake City Games. The guy is O.K. in my book!

Nobody every remembers me!!! I've been here since 1-19-2000. I remember the debate over the 2000 draft. (Terrell's turned out great hasn't he Diam???) I remember the days when Diam was the most criticized member on the board.

5/2000 here, and I remember being welcomed by CKBB. Wonder where he slipped off to?

I may have missed reference to it, but did anyone mention the thread that counted down to opening day? The one that was supposed to have 1k replies before the season started?

Are you sure you're not thinking of Diamond Dave of Steeler Nation? It took me a couple of visits before I realized they were two very different people.

Just wanted to bump this, cuz it was fun to read through again. Amazing what you find when you wander to page 12.

No, no...iam does indeed mean DiamDawg. He was severly criticized for being realistic about the team back when we first came back. I loved his doses or realism. But a lot of people didn't.

Godd! Thanks for the bump and yet another stroll down memory lane!

Well, I don't know how I missed this thread the first time around....but as my ID suggests I have been here since "back in the day."

Don't post much anymore, but I am here everday reading to see what people have to say. This thread does bring me back a bit, and I must say that I reckognize more of the tags on this thread than I have in the entire 'Pure Football' forum in the past several months/last year.

All I have to say to Diam as far as nostalgia goes is..."David, David, David."

Wow, that goes back a bit...

Very nice to see that even if the "old timers" don't post as much as they use to...they still stop by the board...

Started posting myself right after the 1999 season under the name of "WeBiteHard". At the time I wasn't much of a poster since I spent less time on the computer. I still remember the first day I saw the website being developed. What a great feeling then.
