this one's in my wheelhouse, guys.
It's a common musical term, meaning "strong" (or in little kid parlance: 'loud'). Most who know Italian pronounce it FORT-uh (with that upside-down e)... a cross between "eh" and "uh." It's almost never pronounced "for-tay."
The opposite is piano, pronounced: "pee-AH-no," (to be performed quietly).
