Report: Browns focused on DBs entering free agency

https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland-brow...s-for-114468112

The secondary could be the first area of improvement this off-season.

The Cleveland Browns are focused on defensive backs entering free agency according to Chad Forbes.

New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson, Indianapolis Colts cornerback Rashaan Melvin, Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Aaron Colvin and Chicago Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller were specifically listed as players of interest, as were Los Angeles Chargers safety Tre Boston and Seattle Seahawks safety Bradley McDougald.

The Browns have roughly $111 million in salary cap space, which means they could be in the market for big name players. Cleveland has a need at cornerback and it is one of the deepest positions on the open market. It would make sense for them to address the position in free agency.

Forbes also doubled down on the notion that the Browns will make a strong play for Miami Dolpins wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

Makes sense. We need secondary upgrade. That's why I like Minkah at 4.

j/c:

If the Browns sign Trumaine Johnson and Jarvis Landry in FA and draft Rosen and Fitz at 1 and 4, this team will have went a long, long way in turning 4 weak positions around.

JC...

Another dark horse would be Saints S Kenny Vacarro...He played through an injury for multiple games and went on IR, he shouldn't cost a boatload. Still young (25-26) I know the Saints benched him early in the season, they then gave up the most yards all season long that game...Then re-entered him in the line up again...and they did better. He had a pretty poor year to his standards, he had multiple injuries if I remember. As the year prior he was their highest grade and cover guy in the entire secondary. Some of his struggles came as He has shifted between FS and SS, but least he has experience playing both. They wont be re-signing him as they invested two 2nd rounders the past drafts (Von Bell and Marcus Williams)

Then again I like this years draft class at safety as well.

Highly agreed. I think a lot of our issues have came from not obtaining enough higher tier FAs, specially when we have had the money to do so. I mean not drafting well has done a big hit on us as well. But we need to make a big positive splash in FA, to give this team the much needed boost in the right direction.

Strange to hear that they are seemingly interested in players that make sense for once.

Upgrade the secondary and WR position and watch our record go way up IMO

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I was thinking that just as I read your post! LOLetc.

THESE are names I recognize, guys who play well. What is a Browns fan to do with this kind of development? A few more stops. A few more takeaways. Get some more points and we are legit.

I really like Fuller. He crushed Josh Gordon this past season, in the snow. I always thought the receiver had the advantage in bad weather cuz they knew where they were going and cutting, but Fuller was in Gordon's hip pocket all day.

I do also but fuller is almost purely an off man/zone tech. Williams was very clear about his frustrations not having the physical man cbs he needs.

I wish I could go back and watch the Browns/Bears game. I thought the Bears/Fuller ran a lot of man in that game?

Ok. Then of the FA Corners, what 2 are the best when it comes to Man Up?

off man just means he can't press. He played off the line similar to how our CBS did this year. Gregg wanted to play more aggressive man and press.

I can look it up but I can't speak from seeing them. Only ones I'm confident talking about are trumaine and fuller. Trumaine is likely the top pure man press guy though and he's familiar with Gregg

I agree with what was said, but I think it's overstating the obvious.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

We'll have been hearing about Trumaine for 2 offseasons, now. Let's get it over with and bring him in.

Get a stud FS (Fitz), get Wilson back from IR... and profit.

WR is slightly less of a worry, for me. I know they're not good, but I think the main improvement to be had in that department is the guy throwing the ball. I don't think it's critical to make any really earth-shattering moves at WR. Get a couple guys that can bump the Ricardo Louis's off the roster. Shouldn't be hard to do.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Not certain. Pretty sure neither of them was on our team.

We need at least one solid corner out of this draft IMO. One favorite anybody?

So many great CB available. Would love us to not have to draft one.
