Yes, but if it happens in the middle of a play, it's still a penalty. If they choose to enforce it. I have seen several times towards the ends of games right after a big play where a player takes off his helmet... no penalty. The end of the game is different than in the middle of a play, however. Tell that to Dwayne Rudd. I don't know if it mattered because the helmet was coming off regardless...

Oh you're just as guilty of the infraction. But if you believe the light hadn't turned red yet, it changes the intent.

Oh you're just as guilty of the infraction. But if you believe the light hadn't turned red yet, it changes the intent. That's my point. The intent is irrelevant. You drove thru the red light whether you meant to or not.

I'm not one to try to mix politics in a football discussion. But often times intent means everything.
I've openly stated that it doesn't change the fact it was a penalty. The only real difference is whether Rudd meant to break the rule or not.
So at this point, I'm not sure what point it is you're trying to make.
