DUKE JOHNSON
RB, CLEVELAND BROWNS

Duke Johnson reported for the start of Browns training camp Wednesday.

Johnson has continued his stance that he prefers to be traded out of Cleveland, but to this point GM John Dorsey hasn't budged. Dorsey said he and Johnson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, "have had really good conversations." For now, Johnson will be buried in Cleveland where he wasn't used last year behind Nick Chubb and will soon be losing even more work to Kareem Hunt.

Trading Duke would make us thin at the postion to start the season. If we do trade him, I hope that it's not until after the trading deadline.

When it is comes to 2 back sets...everyone is talking about Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt.

Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt this...Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt that...

But maybe we should be talking about Kareem Hunt and Duke Johnson....

I mean in the pass game, while Chubb can catch and had one of the best catches in all the NFL last year...Both Hunt and Duke are better pass catchers...To me this is one of the most explosive lineups we can use (granted EVERY lineup we have is explosive this year...LOL)

As far as a defense is concerned...do you use linebackers to cover them out of the backfield? What team has 2 linebackers that could cover them both??? Do you use safeties to cover them? Not with OBJ, Landry, and Njoku running around...

Throw in some extra DB's....Well, both of them can take the handoff and break a long run as well.

Now we switch to our Wishbone as we did at times last year...and we have Chubb, Hunt, and Duke???? Ridiculous...

with Duke Johnson...our 2 back sets are very dangerous regardless of which 2. and our wishbone package is downright crazy.

I believe it when they say Duke has an integral part to play on this offense.

I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

I think we should keep him all year ... said that since the beginning ...

It’ll be interesting to see how Freddie and Monken utilize him .... he can have an affective role in this O ... and Chubb will need some plays off the first half of the year ....

I think Duke has more value than most ... i’d Love to keep him all year .... Hunt could be traded for someone’s first and more ... he’s ELITE ... Chubb is well on his way to being elite ....

I figured when he hired Drew he was gone .... i still think he is ... the tea leaves tell me they’ve been told he’ll be traded before the season starts .... only other option ... you’ll be the #2 and will get 15 - 20 snaps a game spelling Chubb for 8 games and then we’ll trade u after that ..... ASSuming the trade deadline is on the other side of week 8 ... *L* ...

Once Duke Johnson shows up to mandatory minicamp I always thought he’d be at training camp. Johnson is a high character guy who has played every game of his career.

We've all heard some good things about Dontrell Hilliard. I haven't seen enough of him to say how accurate those reports are. It makes it much harder for me to say what I think the importance of keeping Duke on the roster really is.

It's nice to see that Duke showed up for training camp. He's always seemed like a team player so I actually expected no less from him. When you're a premiere player in this league you can be a no show and not hurt your stock that much. But when you're a situational RB looking to change teams, those situations probably carry a lot more baggage with them. Duke may be very aware of that and feels holding out may decrease interest in his services.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If I had to put the pieces together, Duke is a bit torn about what to do. Maybe he felt pressure from his representation to ask for a trade. Maybe he was on the fence. ... I do think he’s a good guy and has always been a good team player. I actually don’t anticipate him being a problem if he sticks around

Hunt can still practice though, correct?

Before season is probably best, both for Duke and the team.

I understand the insurance aspect, but in the end he needs to be traded soon.

I expected him to show up. From a business stand point, he's gonna do what he needs to do to not hurt his pockets.

Yeah, he doesn’t have much leverage either to be honest

Duke does have leverage over whether he practices or plays due to his physical health.

Hopefully it’s behind them (I have a feeling the media will keep asking, but still)

Seems that Duke is dealing with a leg injury. Duke and his agent must be very concerned with this "unforeseen development"...

...Updated Jul 27, 2019 at 3:24pm...Browns Reveal Severity of RB Duke Johnson’s Injury

Duke Johnson Jr. was not on the field for the third day of Cleveland Browns training camp, but it had nothing to do with his highly-publicized trade request.

Johnson is dealing with a hamstring injury, but Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens revealed that the ailment is not a serious one. Kitchens said he doesn’t expect the fifth-year running back to miss much time. Johnson hasn’t missed a game in his previous four seasons, all with the Browns.

DUKE JOHNSON
RB, CLEVELAND BROWNS

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora doesn't believe Duke Johnson will be traded until "the midseason trade deadline."

"Don't hold your breath for a Duke Johnson trade anytime soon" is the exact phrasing used by Canfora. Cleveland is reportedly all about "having as much veteran depth as possible" right now as backup Kareem Hunt continues dealing with a groin injury. Johnson would ideally get traded to an RB-needy high-octane offense (Ex: Bucs) in August, but it doesn't seem like that's the case. The former 'The U' product reminds out of camp with a nagging hamstring ailment.

I would never trade him until absolutely necessary .. and when Hunt’s in the fold

Ditto.

Will be very disappointed if we trade Duke. For many reasons, including I think he's a good player. I'm a Duke fan.

I wouldn't trade Duke even when Hunt is back. We have the cap space to be greedy and make sure if one of those guys goes down that we have another man up.

Yeah, ideally he sticks and conforms and is a good team guy ... a lot might also depend on what we think of Hilliard

I don't feel rushed to move him. And he could be a weapon say off a wing or out of a slot IMO. Could be a crazy screen specialist as well. I think it was Landrsy had a bunch of those in his PB years back. Duke could hurt some folks with that. I keep him and make him shine, with an eye to later trade perhaps. But while he is mine, I use him up like Hue never did.

Yeah, I’d be very reticent to move him ... unless he just keeps sitting with hamstring injuries (in that case he’d be tough to move anyways lol)
