Obviously the Indians get most of the attention.

But I thought it'd be nice to start a thread about other teams, players, baseball history, anything baseball-related.

I'll start with the Mets, whom I cheer for the most when the Expos aren't playing.

Won 13 of 14, in the wildcard race when it looked they were dead. Their rotation is looking scary these days.

Mets are a great story right now .... literally came back from the dead

Also, the Yankees dominance in Baltimore was incredible

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I get nostalgic when the announcers (like Rick Manning) bring up the names of stars from my youth (especially non-Indians). I often go to Baseball-Reference.com to look up their stats.

Recently, players like:

Chuck Knoblauch, Kirby Puckett, Brian Downing…

Knoblauch lead the league in triples in 1996. (14)

Puckett was an absolute hitting machine. 200+ hit seasons five times (and over 190 twice more) Career .318 batting average, He died young in 2006 but not before going to the MLB Hall-of-Fame.

Downing lead the league in walks in 1987. (106) Hard to believe that was 30+ years ago.

That was crazy, for a while he simply could not make an accurate throw to first. One throw went into the stands and hit Keith Olberman's mom in the face!

Yankees, White Sox To Play At 'Field Of Dreams' Site In 2020

Ryan Chatelain
WFAN Radio

August 08, 2019

They're going to build it, and the Yankees and White Sox will come.

Major League Baseball announced Thursday that the two teams will meet on Aug. 13, 2020, on the farm site in Dyersville, Iowa, where the 1989 movie "Field of Dreams" was shot. It'll be the first major league game ever played in Iowa.

The Yankees broke the news with a video posted on Twitter on Thursday morning that showed Aaron Judge taking the place of "Shoeless" Joe Jackson.

"Hey, is this heaven?" Judge asks.

"No, it's Iowa," Kevin Costner's Ray Kinsella answers.

“As a sport that is proud of its history linking generations, Major League Baseball is excited to bring a regular season game to the site of Field of Dreams,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said, via MLB.com. “We look forward to celebrating the movie’s enduring message of how baseball brings people together at this special cornfield in Iowa.”

Construction of a temporary 8,000-seat ballpark will begin Tuesday, exactly one year before the game is to be played. The game will be broadcast nationally on Fox.

It'll be the second year in a row the Yankees will have participated in a game at an unusal site. In June, they played the Red Sox in a two-game series in London.

Pretty cool idea to play there ... it’s going to be on a field right across from the actually field I guess.

Ray LIotta better enter from the field during the 7th inning stretch

You know, as much as I liked Field Of Dreams, there's one thing that grinds me about that movie. Its when Costner says "Hey Dad? Have a catch?". I remember thinking to myself "Have a catch? Who says that?". We always said "Wanna play catch??". It annoyed me because it just sounded wrong to me. I don't know, maybe its a regional thing, like soda and pop ...

"Have a catch" sounds like a Dad throwing the ball one time to his son and then walking away. Kid gets left standing there thinking "Boy, that was fun.".

How about Dante's son - Bo Bichette?
Has played in 11 games, has hit in 11 games. Just set the modern era mark with doubles in 9 straight games!

Jomboy media has instantly become my favorite Baseball related youtube channel. The dude is hilarious, and does a great job of summarizing what happens in the highlights.

It’s impressive that the Yankees have signed a bunch of castoffs that have been more effective than their core guys ... I’ve followed them closely all year. Guys like Tuchman, Urshela, LeMaheiu, etc

Watching the Pirates/Cards game last night ... Pittsburgh is on an awful slide ... lost like 18 of 19 games or something. They went from “in” the race to a complete circus in a month

I read something this week I don't recall ever hearing: the San Diego Padres have never thrown a no-hitter. In 50 seasons.

Edit: it also took them more than 40 years to have a guy hit for the cycle. Just odd stats that I find interesting.

Yeah, isn’t it like the Bucs have never returned a kickoff? Something like that lol

I had to look it up: the Bucs went more than 30 years without a kickoff return TD, but broke the streak in 2007.

See, I love interesting baseball oddities.

I was killing time tonight, (I'll start watching the game in awhile so avoiding game day thread):

I decided to google Roberto Clemente and found this:

• He won 12 Gold Glove Awards and shares the record of most won among outfielders with Willie Mays.

• (this I find interetsring)

On July 25, 1956, in a 9–8 Pittsburgh win against the Chicago Cubs, Clemente hit the only walk-off inside-the-park grand slam in professional baseball history.
