I just ordered an xbox because I'm bored out of my skull.

I have no idea which console games are the best.

List your top 5 to help me know what's good.

I prefer first person shooter, fantasy, race cars, and horror.

But not all at the same time. wink

Please and Thank You.

I like "Pong". When I set it on slow, I can pee or get a beer between hits.

Competitive or Cooperative shooters?

Borderlands is probably the series that will cover the most of those, but is more on the cooperative side. The art style's not for everyone, but it can be pretty fun. It's definitely a looter-shooter. Constant search for new/different gear. Definitely more on the fantasy side than realism.

Warzone if you want something more competitive. It's in the fortnite/apex legends last squad standing vein but in the call of duty universe. They also have the benefit of the base game being free, so you can try them out without spending money I believe. My TV died, so I've been on the PC lately.

The Witcher 3 is a great game for fantasy/"horror", but no guns or cars. Dark-themed open world RPG with lots to do and explore.

Thank you.

I think I've decided to get ulitmate game pass.

It will allow me free games from their library and multiplayer mode also.

Witcher 3 is an epic game. Another in a similar vein is Kingdon Come.

Call of Duty is excellent. CoD Warzone is free.

I believe it's also available on PC, but the Mass Effect Trilogy is incredible. You can buy it as a 3-game package. 3rd-person, cover-based, space shooter. You can sink over 100 hours into each game.

1st game has some clunky mechanics, and is more RPG-heavy than the rest. Story is best of the three. 2nd has MUCH more refined shooting/moving mechanics, with dumbed-down RPG elements. Story is still good, if a bit less involved than the first. 3rd builds on the second and wraps everything up. Ending was controversial, but the game, overall is incredible.

Cannot recommend the ME series enough. A personal favorite.

Witcher is also excellent.

I like Division, but that's 3rd-person shooter. Destiny is good, but I'm burned out on it. I think you can play through the beginning for free, though.

Xbox Game pass is pretty cool, even though its expensive.

My 4 year old is starting to play, and hes able to play a few games on Gamepass (Power Rangers, Disney, etc).

The latest COD is pretty good. It has taken up most of my time gaming right now (even though I dont find myself playing as much as you would think being in quarantine).

An older Xbox title you can get probably cheap if not on GamePass that i loved and think was underrated is Ryse.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Black Flag are great games.

Ooooh, Black Flag was a bunch of fun. I haven't played Odyssey, yet.

I've been enjoying the latest Metal Gear game that was released on Xbox (I believe it's called Phantom Pain), but it's another 3rd-person shooter with heavy stealth elements. Also, it's Metal Gear... so it's a little weird.

OMG this game is way more complicated than my brain wants to invest.
I don't have interest in learning all the controls or figuring out the super complicated nuances of the missions.

Give me a simple game for my dumb brain, please. I have a super short attention span.

Maybe try Rocket League?

I didn't think I'd like it that much, but it's pretty fun.

Sort of 3v3 "soccer" with cars.

Matches can be pretty quick.

Easy to learn, hard to master.

I think it's on the Gamepass.

It's actually not as complicated as it seems. you learn a little here and there as you go, they don't really throw the whole thing at you right away.

It's a a really fun game, and there is tons to do!

Madden or the MLB game with Manny Ramirez

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

You cannot go wrong with Halo, of course.

Sea of Thieves is fun.
Tom Clancy's Division 2 is a solid third-person game with a bit of a FPS feel that I've had a lot of fun with.

Insurgency: Sandstorm is a great FPS. No story or single player missions, just multiplayer madness.

I play all of the above on PC, but they are all available on XBox. Sea of Thieves is actually totally cross-platform in that XBox players can and will play against PC players on the same server (though, they have the option of being put into an XBox-only world, too).

I really wish I had a group that play/played Sea of Thieves. That game is pretty much unplayable solo or even when you matchmake, imo.

I love Division 2. It's my current game now that I'm pretty much perma-burned out on Destiny.

They sure don't make it easy for you to get a group going in Sea of Thieves, either. If you're on a Sloop with a friend and another friend wants to join y'all, you all have to drop from the servers and rejoin in a different ship.

In both games, the limit on four players in a group is a little annoying, too. Especially in Sea of Thieves. I *really* wish they'd make it easier for friends to get multiple ships on the same server. Yes, people would abuse that, but hey... that's life as a pirate, right??

For whatever reason, Division is more manageable. Once you know the missions, it's just a matter of getting your build to a certain level and then you can run missions solo. At this point, matchmaking is also more hit than miss.

I have a group of guys that plays D2 together pretty much every Thursday. I've got a heavy Status Effects build based on the OnGoing Directive set going right now that is just absolutely OP on anything easier than Challenging, and even on Challenging, I was doing ok with the Time Trial runs through missions (American History Museum in 11:35). If I get a group of NPCs together, I shoot one, then watch Bleed spread to all of them doing 46k bleed per tick. Enemies that I didn't even shoot just die, lol. One shot to one enemy can melt a whole group, especially on the lower difficulties. smile
