While Washington aren't in the drivers seat - and while the Browns might have the ideal situation of need and cap space ... would you really want to jeopardize the deal for the difference between the 115th pick and the 187th pick or whatever it is?

If Williams is the solution you want that lets you draft or trade to maximum benefit in round 1 .... does 115 or 187 really matter? Not to me, I'd prefer to see the opportunities open up and they open up most by acquiring Williams. jmo

Williams shouldn't be the "solution". He is a "nice to have" if the price is right.

Conversely, since he is only a $2 million cap hit once they release him, they will likely do just that if nobody trades for him. With us, at least they get something.

This is 100% true, so long as Peters is still out there. I think once your options of getting a LT that can start right away shrink down to draft or Williams, it's officially time to worry.

We can win NOW ... so i disagree that he’s “just nice to have” ...

We need a LT ... and if we don’t take one at 10 ... he’s the only option or that position will once again more than likely be a glaring hole ... there’s no else out there ...

He is a "nice to have". We don't need SuperMegaEliteAwesome at LT.

We need the Patriots' approach. We need "good enough to not have to replace".

Their LT's since 2000:
Matt Light (with one year of Nick Kaczur)
Nate Solder

None of them is headed to the Hall of Fame, but they're solid enough to not get replaced on a perennial contender. That's Good Enough.

I have no idea who that is, but if he can play LT well enough that we don't need to replace him, then that's what I'm talking about smile

Well, I mean, he can't now because he was drafted in 1983. wink

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

This I agree with - most especially given Conklin, Tretter, Bitonio anchor the rest of the OL. . . . and given how inconsistent the OT's were last year. It's why I would love to land Josh Jones because I think he'd be a huge asset in the run game. It's why Williams is also such a viable option for the right price if we don't decide to draft a OT.

Just me - but if Brown or Simmons don't fall to 10 - I see the biggest impact for the Browns 2020 and forward is trading back to be able to pick up 2 LB and a S in the middle of the first round through the end of the 2nd round. That's where I think we can find quality starters that are better than "a guy". Simmons would be my #1 choice at 10. Brown my second choice.

Assuming Simmons/Brown is there at 10 - and we take them, and we don't get Williams or Peters .... then I am a bit stumped for a contingency plan as I don't know which OT will be there at 41 - and if one of the safeties (Winfield or Chinn) is available it would be really tempting to take over the 6-7-8th OT in this draft.

JMHO, Pluto had some really good points...we don't know if we're getting All-Pro Williams, or are we getting guy who sat out 3 games with thumb injury...guys change as they AGE and have money in bank.....I'd prefer spending our capital on HUNGRY youngster over a don't know what you're getting....Callahan would be the test for me....AND I admit I know nothing about linemen, just human nature....GO Browns!!!

The cool part is, if anyone knows the answer to your question, it's our own Oline coach.

I’m pretty good with what we got ... close to BPA and needs filled.

Perfect world I would have drafted Winfield over Delpit and Harrison over Philips.

Don’t know much about today’s picks other than DPJ, who’s a flyer anyways

Using
@ArifHasanNFL
's consensus big board, here are the Browns picks compared to their BB ranking:

Wills: 10th overall (cons: 7)
Delpit: 44th overall (cons: 25)
Elliott: 88th (64)
Phillips: 97th (154)
Bryant: 115th (104)
Harris: 160th (116)
DPJ: 187th (100)

outside of Phillips, the value has been pretty incredible for Berry and company

I don't know how good these guys will end up being - the "huh" pick was Phillips when there was Harrison right there ... other than that I like the picks. I particularly like the picks I have highlighted.

I wonder if we will end up loving Delpit as our top 2nd round pick as much as we love Chubb .... just feels like things aligned for us with that pick.
