Pics etc in link..... Incredible drone footage gets scarily close to Iceland volcano eruption This is 'Fagradalsfjall', which erupted over the weekend. Over the weekend a volcano called Fagradalsfjall, near Iceland's capital Reykjavik, erupted. It's an eruption that Icelanders have been expecting for several weeks and, thankfully, no one has been hurt as a result. It marks the first time the volcano has erupted in 800 years. In the wake of the eruption, incredible footage of the volcano, and the lava spewing from it, has been released. The results are absolutely gobsmacking. This drone footage, shot by Bjorn Steinbekk, is perhaps the best of the lot. It's staggering. At current time of writing the volcano is glowing in the dark, creating a properly hellish set of orange hues. Well worth being hypnotised by, at least for a few minutes. For those of you who just want the highlights, this timelapse of the footage is great. The night timelapse is even more compelling... Finally, this image, and the accompanying photography, gets incredibly close to the volcano and its effects. Why are they letting the crowd so close to that?
When I was on the Big Island in Hawaii we went to the active volcano and they made us stay so far away that they had a telescope set up to see it.

Iceland has been on the bucket list for a good while. Once this virus crap is over, or close enough, that is the next trip my wife and I will take.

When I was on the Big Island in Hawaii we went to the active volcano and they made us stay so far away that they had a telescope set up to see it. When did you see it? I was there in ‘92 and we got as close as 25 feet or so, in a lot of places. Pretty awesome I got the chance while I was in the Army to go to the Big Island.

I was there in ‘92 and we got as close as 25 feet or so, in a lot of places. Pretty awesome I got the chance while I was in the Army to go to the Big Island. I don't remember the year. It was probably 2001ish. We were on a tour bus and we took the road to the volcano up to the point where the lava covered the road. Then we got out. There was a trail but we weren't allowed on it. They had a telescope and all you could see was a tiny orange spot far away, and steam from where it was going into the ocean.

I had plans to go on a fly fishing trip to Iceland.
Unique country from a geologic point of view. A major Teutonic plate goes through the center of Iceland.
Iceland is run by thermal energy.
It has some of the best fishing in the world. There is a lake with a real long name that has a strain of brown trout that get huge. Their nickname is ice age trout. At one time the lake sea run then was blocked off. the genetic strain of trout became isolated. It is common to catch trout over 20 lbs.
The landscape is very raw geologically and is still forming.
Once travel opens up the plan is to go there.

The picture quality of the live feed is so good, it looks eerie.
Also, while watching I saw two men, two helicopters and a dog..

$900 for a day of fishing?!
I’ve never chartered a fishing trip. Is this a typical cost? Seems steep. When I sold cars, I worked with a guy who captained a charter on Lake Erie. I seem to recall the $500 range from what he told me. (He took up to 6 people per trip, so that breaks down to about $84/per person) He also got tips on a regular basis. He seemed to know how to find Walleye, and took about 3 months off, every year, to run his charter. (and he was a darn good salesman, as well)

In an effort to keep the fishing pristine and the place unique, I wish they'd outlaw americans or others from traveling there, just to ruin a good thing.
900 a day to charter a boat to fish, does not seem steep, it seesms 30 percent on the dollar average, but it could greatly depend on what they're offering. Also that could be a long term like per day for a whole week rate.
But if I read they have the best fishing in the world, I think, oh great, all we need are for people to come and spoil it.
