CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have signed three of their draft picks, the team announced on Thursday.

Linebacker Tony Fields II, safety Richard LeCounte III and running back Demetric Felton signed their rookie deals on Thursday on the eve of rookie minicamp. Rookie contracts are four years, per terms of the league’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Fields was picked in the fifth round, No. 153 overall out of West Virginia. Fields drew comparisons to Browns second-round pick Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

“He is explosive. He is rangy. He can get sideline-to-sideline,” Browns national scout Charles Walls said after the Browns picked Fields. “He just gives us tremendous versatility and flexibility in our linebacking corps.”

“I fly to the ball,” Fields said after getting picked. “I am one of those guys who is an ambassador of hard work when I get on the football field. I get out there and put my all into it, no matter what I am doing. If I am going to the ball, I am trying to get an interception or if I am forcing a puller, I am going to give you my all. That is how I play the game.”

LeCounte was picked No. 169 out of Georgia in the fifth round. He missed the final months of his last season after a dirt bike accident on Oct. 31 after the Bulldogs returned home from a win over Kentucky. He assuaged any concerns the Browns might have had about potential lingering injuries at Georgia’s pro day.

“Excellent coverage skills especially in zone,” Browns area scout Colton Chapple said on the day of the pick. “He plays with great eyes and anticipation and sees the field really well. I think that the best thing that he does is play zone coverage versus the pass. You will see some of his highlights, he will come down in a hurry in supporting the run, and he looks to run through you as a tackler, which was surprising not being a bigger guy who is like some of the guys we have on campus here. It is exciting to see him both in the run and the pass game and what he can offer for us.”

Felton, from UCLA, was the Browns’ final pick of the draft at No. 211, a sixth-round pick. Listed as both a running back and wide receiver, the Browns plan to start him off as a running back.

“Part of the appeal to Demetric was his ability to line up all over,” Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said. “We list him as a running back, but we need to get him on campus and see what he can handle and see what he can do. You have plenty of reps you can look at down there at the Senior Bowl where he is lining up all over.”

The Browns are holding their rookie minicamp this weekend. Players will take the field for a short, walkthrough-type practice on Friday afternoon.

Such a nice thing to sign picks so early before camps start

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

It's so different these days. When I think back in time I see everyone holding out until part way through training camp....

This is rather nice

I agree. Rookies would nearly throw away their first year because of holdouts. It was so dumb

Yes… while holding out for contracts way bigger that proven vets. It never made sense. That change is one thing the NFL got right.

For some reason I knew Felton would pick #25

To me, the number doesn't make the player. the player makes the number.

Be the best #20 you can be...a few good ones who wore the number that I can recall

IIRC Bradford was the last of the guaranteed HUGE contracts like that ... but he really made out in his career

Just remember those high QB draft picks go to bad teams who many just don't invest in an OL to protect their asset. So many of these QBs become damaged goods so I don't or didn't mind them getting the big bucks straight up front.

Man, if the on-field production matches the mindset these rookies are showing... we gonna be a monster.

Although I'm not aware that the new league rule would prevent a rookie from wearing a single-digit number. I like Stefanski's approach. You have to earn that right.

Sam Bradford was a reach for a QB at #1 overall

2010 was an incredibly Bad year for QB's in the draft!!
(could say that again!)

Who Were the Qb's in the (stopped at 5 rounds) 2010 draft, ( Hey! I learned 11 years is long enough to grade a draft.)

Qb's in the 2010 draft, and other notes. OUCH!

2010 overall
1. Sam Bradford Qb, St Louis Rams
5. Eric Berry S Kansas city
7 overall Joe Haden CB Browns

#15 overall, Jason Pierre Paul, DE Giants
18. Maurkice Pouncey OC Steelers

QB #25, Tim Tebow QB, Denver
27, Devin Mccourty Cb, N England. ehh, what does he know
#38... TJ Ward, Cleveland FS, 'emmmm' Lov them DB's
39
40
41
#42 overall? Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England, ehh, what do they know
rofl

#48 Qb Jimmy Claussen, Carolina Panthers, (Good Gawsh this was a bad QB year)

#59 trade up, Browns Montario Hardesty! RB. emm Emm!
#60, Golden Tate, WR seattle, (ehh he won't last, I wanted Hardesty that year truly, was happy.)

QB's
#85 Colt McCoy Qb, Cleveland, (may o been the best of the lot, it was a Terrible Lot though, WOW!)
#122 Mike Kafka QB, Philadelphia
#155 John Skelton QB, Arizona
?? 160ish ?? Jonathan Cromption? QB San Diego chargers

Qb's taken in the top 5 rounds of the 2010 draft. If there was a Worse year to draft a QB between 1998, and 2021, I'd challenge someone to find it. WOW.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Rumor has it that John Skelton is a shadow of his former self.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

2013 was the worst QB draft I've ever seen. At least Bradford had stretches of being good between injuries, Tebow actually won a playoff game and McCoy became a pseudo-reliable long term back up.

2013:
1 16 Buffalo Bills EJ Manuel
2 39 New York Jets Geno Smith
3 73 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mike Glennon
4 98 Philadelphia Eagles Matt Barkley
4 110 New York Giants Ryan Nassib
4 112 Oakland Raiders Tyler Wilson
4 115 Pittsburgh Steelers Landry Jones
7 221 San Diego Chargers Brad Sorensen
7 234 Denver Broncos Zac Dysert
7 237 San Francisco 49ers B. J. Daniels
7* 249 Atlanta Falcons Sean Renfree

Wow, when Geno Smith is the most successful QB on that list, you know it's bad.

I can remember posters on this site wanting us to tank the season for Geno Smith & I believe in a later season for Matt Barkley.
