NFL looking into holding 2017 Pro Bowl in Brazil

The NFL is always looking to try new things with the Pro Bowl. Whether it’s a lack of interest from fans or players not showing up for the game, it just seems that the annual event has been a bust for years now.

In an attempt to resolve these issues, it is being reported that the NFL is looking into the potential of playing the 2017 Pro Bowl in Brazil.

Not only would this be the first time that the All-Star game has been played outside of the United States, it would come one year after Brazil hosts the 2016 Summer Olympics. That could be the extra carrot needed to get all Pro Bowlers to actually attend the game.

For a 30-year span from the late 1970’s to the late 2000’s, the Pro Bowl was played in Hawaii. That changed when it was moved to Miami for the 2009 season. And after four more years in Hawaii, the Pro Bowl was played in Arizona this past year.

If it means moving the fledgling All-Star game outside of the United States to drum up interest, that could very well be a likely scenario moving forward.

After all, who wouldn’t want to spend a few winter days in Rio?

That would be cool... as 100 NFL players quickly google "beaches of Brazil" and immediately throw support behind the idea.

Sure, publicly send a bunch of high-profile young millionaires to a country famous for it's STDs and kidnappings. What could go wrong?

They're just dumb anymore these days... Brazil? Seriously?

The Pro Bowl is bad enough and they're going to literally put the final nail in the coffin.

I'm confused how having it in Brazil would impact the interest or the importance of the event...

Do you think if they cancel the game due to widespread dysentery, anyone will notice?

They had the World Cup in Brazil and nothing happened. And that was in some pretty remote parts of Brazil. I'm assuming the players will be in Rio and staying in some pretty safe places.

I find myself constantly saying, 'man, the NFL is so dumb. When are they going to get their act together and turn a profit?'

It is pretty simple. Soccer, or as my European friends call it, football, is the most popular game on earth. The NFL wants to make inroads into these rabid fans. Brazil is a soccer crazy country - expanding the reach of the NFL to other countries is the next step as it is pretty much saturated in the US right now. How many more people can they actually get to become fans of the NFL? They are wooing women right now, and it is working, but the untapped billions outside of this country is where more money is at - it is a logical, and VERY smart business move. European soccer fans make rabid NFL fans look like children - they are by far and away, IMO, the craziest fanbase on earth. Why not get them to try and like American football?
