DeAngelo always won a spot in my heart. I hate how it went down at the end of season one, though. Don't spoil anything for me, but I hope he gets more screentime in the following seasons.
The Wire is, without a doubt, one of the greatest TV shows of all time. It genuinely shows the corruption and greed of a city at all levels. If you haven't watched it, you're missing out.
I had been wondering the same thing. His name disappeared from the "User List" late-May, early June. You would think that means he changed his user name and is posting as one of the newbies, because if he'd only gone inactive he'd still be on the user list. There's lots of people on the user list who haven't posted in a long time. But Phil's is just gone.

Mhmmm. I sent him a message a few months back and it says that he read it, but I'm not so sure. Hope he's doing OK. I don't really think he's a newish poster as he had a very distinct voice on here.
Amazing series. I read somewhere that HBO is going to re-air it as if it were a new show, week by week, in HD. If you remember, they wanted it to stay in standard def to keep with the grainy look.

Well, it had to do with the dimensions of the screen. Turning it into HD meant they had to cut the frames differently. When they made it HD they had to widen out the frames and crop it a bit. The showrunners still want you to watch it in SD though :-/

Jack Tripper has struck me as having a certain PDR quality/style to him.

I thought that too. Not necessarily the same, but close.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
I don't think PDR would care to restrain himself for belittling others. Jack doesn't have that problem. But thread will require Jack to track down PDR and take a pic with him just so we're sure imo.
Greatest show of all time. Modern day Shakespeare, 100% serious. Recommend it to everyone. I loved The Sopranos, but the Wire was better.
I haven't been able to work in a bit and have been watching a lot of TV lately. I watched the whole series because of this thread, which I saw a while back. I don't think I'd refer to the Wire as a 'modern day Shakespeare,' as it is about as ghetto a show as it can get: A bunch of inner city drug dealers who get busted by alcoholic cops. Parts of it were really good, I'll give it that much. I know the show wasn't all about the police, but as far as cop TV series goes, I've seen better - check out The Shield if you've never seen it, it was on a few years ago.
Omar was my favorite character on the show. What freakin' nerve he had.
I know a lot of ya loved the show, but personally? All-in-all I'd say The Wire was pretty good, about a B/B-.
It IS the best show ever made, because it is way more than that. It's not about drug dealers or cops. It is sociology of a city (and the USA) on film. It works on the surface enough to be enjoyable, but it takes off for those who get the points between the lines, scenes, episodes and series
