I wouldn't recommend either of them, but I do think the Lions would do well to consider John Dorsey at GM.

I didn't know if Matt Patricia was going to be a good coach or not two years ago, but I remember thinking it didn't bode well when he decided to scold a Detroit reporter for "slouching" in his chair while asking a question at one of his pressers and implied the reporter's posture and body language was "unprofessional". Especially since the appearance he presented to the world was of a 40-something guy who lives in his mom's basement. What about his look said "professional"? Was it the flat ballcap, the wino beard, or the Mama Cass-sized moo-moo/sweatshirt he wore?

No surprise here ... he was not good there. Bill B disciples, in general, haven’t been great.

Flores may be the one exception

I didn't know who the Lions HC or GM were. Patricia appears to be the HC, still don't know who the GM was, it's not important.

The last 3 times the Browns had a winning record, or close,

2014, 2007, 2001, 1994, ...

The Browns didn't exactly set the world on fire the following year, so There needs to be something figured out.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Matt Patricia will be back with the Patriots in very short order. Another Bellichick assistant that proves to the world that the Bill Belichick system works for him and ONLY him. Belichick was BORN to be a football coach and the way he does things only works for him. When owners hire these guys they hope to turn their teams into the Patriots and that isn't possible unless they hire Belichick. Period. So they are always ultimately disappointed. Also, ownership in Detroit is historically bad. They always make the wrong decisions and always end up losing. They are the Browns of the NFC.

I like the reply up above that said they should hire John Dorsey. He isn't perfect but he is MUCH better than anyone they have had there in decades. He at least knows something about the game and has built teams before.

I'm not so sure about Belichick either.

Looks like Brady was all Belichick needed.

Just me - but imo it was more BB than Brady. Look at how many years backups went in and looked like all stars only to be total (and I mean total) busts when signed by other teams. Bill's coaching tree not being good is one reason (Colts was the other) that I didn't care for McDaniels here.

The Lions have been historically bad ever since the Ford family bought them. Their last championship was in 1957 when they beat the Browns. The Fords didn't own them then. They have just one playoff win in over 60 yrs.

They always manage to screw things up and get it wrong. Yes they should hire Dorsey or a GM from a winning franchise but they won't. They'll get this wrong too by hiring a second tier assistant that has no experience as GM and some second rate coordinator that has never been a coach before.

Lions fans have been hoping for years that the Fords sell the team but that's not going to happen.

Unfortunately, the Lions have allowed the 5th most sacks in the NFL, and are the 4th worth rushing team. Makes it hard to keep the OL coach with those results.

This is the problem when projecting guys who haven't done it very long. Goes for players and coaches. Hot coordinator who doesn't get promoted to head coach has a down year the following year...bullet dodged. Or rookie QB sets the rookie TD record then has a down year. Or second year QB wins MVP, but can't win a game when his team is trailing the following year.

In the NFL, probably more than any other league, you have to see players and coaches do it for 3 years+ in my opinion to have a true gauge for the future possibilities of success or failure. All of sudden Greg Roman is no longer a hot coordinator and is ruining Lamar like he ruined Kaepernick. Just have to take it year to year.

I'm not bagging on Dorsey because he did some good things here...BUT...he inherited a once-in-a-career draft pick haul AND cap space...so that helped.

AND...he fell on his sword over Freddie.

Talent evaluator and super-scout? Sure. GM duties? No.

Belichick was a GREAT defensive coordinator before becoming a head coach and as maligned as he was here he did take the Browns to the playoffs the year before "the move" season of despair. With Vinne T at QB. Bill Belichick is a great football coach. He was BORN to be a football coach. Greatest coach ever. He has the rings to prove it and not just the ones in NE. Those Giants defenses won those SB's.

Are you forgetting he built the Chiefs? A good number of the players on that SB team were under him. He had a great career before that too.

It was all Sashi. You need to acknowledge the 5D chees of Sashi Brown.

Hue and Sashi should've been given more time.

I don't think it was Bill or Brady. I think it was their fit together. Both looking a little rough without the other.

The Jaguars have a ton of picks coming in the next few drafts. They should be able to restock quickly if the right person is in charge.

Dorsey could set the ship right like he did here. Not sure he's a long term answer.. But certainly the right guy to set the stage.

I heard Ray Farmer was dusting down his resume!

Seriously, I think Dorsey would be a very good fit for them. It would be interesting if that happens who and how the HC is selected.

Dorsey's phone might be ringing off the wall! LOL

If he goes somewhere with a lot of picks over say two years, he could help a bunch. Just not sure how the power decisions would be made. Did us some good.
