Safety expected to miss 4-6 weeks with shoulder injury suffered on first play against Jack

The Cleveland Browns placed safety Ronnie Harrison on injured reserve on Tuesday.

Harrison suffered a shoulder injury on the first play of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars when he tackled running back James Robinson. While everyone held out hope that he would be OK, the Browns signaled that something was up on Monday when they claimed safety Tedric Thomas off of waivers.

Putting Harrison on injured reserve ensures that he will miss a minimum of three games, which means he could back for the December 27 game against the New York Jets. But ESPN’s Jake Trotter is reporting that the injury could knock Harrison out for up to six weeks, which if true means his season is done.

It has been an up-and-down first season in Cleveland for Harrison. The Browns rescued him from Jacksonville in a trade on September 3, but it took him a few weeks before he could work his way into the starting lineup.

Harrison made his first start of the season in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts, a game highlighted by his 47-yard interception return of a Philip Rivers’ pass for a touchdown. He missed the game the following week against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a concussion.

The injury to Harrison continues a disturbing trend for Cleveland’s secondary this season. The Browns have played the entire season without second-year cornerback Greedy Williams, who is dealing with a nerve issue in his shoulder, and rookie safety Grant Delpit, who suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon in training camp. In addition, cornerback Denzel Ward is currently dealing with a calf injury that will keep him out of his second consecutive game this Sunday when the Browns face the Tennessee Titans.

If Harrison is indeed done for the season, he will finish the year with six starts, 31 tackles, six passes defensed and the one interception.

In happier news, the Browns announced the defensive end Myles Garrett has been activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list and is expected to return to practice on Wednesday.

Garrett has missed the past two games after being placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on November 20.

Harrison is brittle. Time to move on.

I, of course, have no way of knowing, but from the angle of impact, and the way he held his arm after the injury, I think he broke his clavicle (collar bone).

Moving on would be the wrong thing to do.
Ronnie Harrison can be a balanced part of a 4 safety rotation.

The Browns have constantly moved on, over and over, from usable, playable, reliable members of a balanced postion group, in most position groups, including safety,

for many previous years, and it's a large reason why they don't win a Super Bowl.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Add Denzel Ward to the equation.

He is a great player, but he simply cannot stay healthy.

Injuries are random.

Anybody can be hurt at any given time. That is reality.

No player is invincible. It is a matter of a how bodies are hit with force to a part of their body.

Hopefully Harrison makes it back this year to help. He has been a great add and will be a part of this team going forward.

Some players seem to have a higher degree of randomness...

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

Lee Suggs and Montario Hardesty come to mind. Two guys that had an injury history in College that we should have never drafted.

yeah, both were mistakes. Injury riddled careers (Especially Hardesty because IIRC we traded up for him in the 2nd round)

Agreed. Because of injury history Harrison may not be an every down player but in a rotation or fill in starter he can be very useful.

I'm not as pessimistic as a lot of you seem to be. Injuries and missed games happen to every team and to most players. And especially for the 2-3 game stretches, which applies to Ward. For more significant missed time (6+ games), like Greedy this year, Delpit, and now Harrison, I think it should be more of a 3 strikes policy for the GM.

Now imagine if instead of all the dire predictions, our secondary has Ward, Greedy, Delpit, and Harrison for 14+ games together next year. That is a nigh and day difference from what we're going through. This idea that we need to give up on young guys due to injury is crazy, IMO.
