Has anyone ever seen a worse TE? I understand that he was brought here primarily because he can block but please. He can't catch footballs. If he is here to block, then stop throwing to him.

This guy is a joke of a TE. He cost us the game last week and without the worst play ever from a punt returner, he would have cost us this game. That is unacceptable!

This guy wouldn't have been allowed on the bus after yesterday's game if it were up to me.

This pickup needs to be treated as the flat-out bust that it is and we need to get this clown off the roster. He is absolutely terrible. I can't believe he gets on the field.

I get physically ill seeing him on the field.

how many drops did he have against buffalo? this year?
Posted By: Spergon FTWynn Re: Robert Royal... - 10/12/09 07:31 PM
seems like he is the only guy who is ever wide open, and sadly, he has hands like braylon.
Posted By: gage Re: Robert Royal... - 10/12/09 08:16 PM
Thats why he's my 3rd string TE in Madden behind Tucker and Heiden
Posted By: Adam_P Re: Robert Royal... - 10/12/09 08:30 PM
When I was at the game in Baltimore, he spent most of his pre-game time talking trash to the Ravens fans, and then did absolutely nothing to back it up. I don't think I'd care if he was off the team tomorrow.

Why is he starting ahead of Heiden?
Posted By: Dawgs4Life Re: Robert Royal... - 10/12/09 08:35 PM
he really looks the ball in better than any receiver in the league; unfortunately; he is too good at it and lets it hit his face.
Posted By: Damanshot Re: Robert Royal... - 10/12/09 08:44 PM
OK, I agree with you,, but what's the alternative.. who's out there that might be better.. Rucker? if we had him and cut him to keep Royal, what does that say?

Anyone else out there that you can think of that is still available and is better than royal?

1. Don't throw to him - ever.

2. Put him on the practice squad or cut him outright.

3. Get Estandia up to speed. He simply cannot be as bad as this stiff.

Maybe this "vet" can spend some time on the practice squad and re-examine his drive to be a professional athlete.

The absolute bottom line of expectations I have for any player on our team is that they are better than I am. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be any better than Royal, but I bet I wouldn't be any worse. lol.

I want Paul Irons back, that dude caught every ball thrown his way!

This is what i cannot figure out....

Is heiden just getting to old? is his knee not heeling well enough?

If i remember correctly heiden wasn't an awful blocker either........

....sucks?
Posted By: Line Judge Re: Robert Royal... - 10/12/09 09:44 PM
Royal is not eligible for the PS, so the alternative would be an outright cut.

JMO, but I don't see that happening until the off-season unless we arrange a trade with a team that has an over- abundance of TE talent. Who would that be?

I remember Royal when he was with the Deadskins. He was a stiff then and they drafted Cooley to take his place.Sorry, but Royal is nothing more than a back-up and one more example of players that are starting on the Browns that would be back-ups elsewhere.
Know of any other players that would fit that billl?

People really need to learn how the Practice Squad works. Robert Royal is an 8 year veteran.

Steve Heiden is better then him and he is our backup.
Posted By: ClevelandFan73 Re: Robert Royal... - 10/12/09 10:42 PM
I'm pretty sure Royal is getting most of the PT because Heiden is coming off a serious knee injury late last year. It's amazing that he's even playing right now. By the looks of it. He is being brought along slowly to get him back into trusting the knee. Heiden was slated to be the starter. He will get there as soon as his knee can take the added reps.

Plus, the Browns ran the ball down the Bills throat. Royal is a better than average blocker. I'm sure there was extra tension returning to Buffalo where he played last year. He's not that horrible just because he dropped a wide open pass.

I think people need to relax. Everyone of our receivers dropped balls yesterday. Does that mean they should be cut as well? No.

Steve Heiden doesn't drop a ball. He's got great hands. For the love of all things holy, get Heiden involved more.

True enough, but Heiden is coming off a pretty big injury if memory serves me correctly, so he just may not be 100% yet..

So, that might be why Royal is starting in his place.

can someone tell me why we have Estandia on this team? Why can't we see what he can do.

So put him on the veteran practice squad, you know the waiver wire is what they call it I think...

Great point, but Big Bob catches NOTHING,...I too, was blown away with cutting Rucker -- he simply was not on Mangini's radar and was one of those "this-roster-will-be-all-mine-one-day" moves,....easier for him to cut a 2d year guy than an 8 year vet,....just my take. Too bad Heiden ain't ready yet, since RR is not a bad blocker, but with both out there, or just Heiden--then the D KNOWS what we're gonna do,....

Waivers is for players with four or less accrued seasons. Vets get released, nothing more, nothing less.

Royal is a one year band-aid. He just ended up being one of those cheap plastic band-aids that fall off after a hour and leave the weird sticky residue on your skin.

He is not meant to be a #1 TE, but Mangini/Kokinis brought him in to shore up a weak position. A new TE will be brought in this off-season. Although I wish we would have been looking TE in this past draft it was pretty deep (Beckum, Coffman, Cook, Ingram, Nelson, Pettigrew.) This next year's class shouldn't be bad. (Senior TE's)

Just clicking

I was watching The Point After on Channel 3 last night.. Dieken was talking about Royals hands being all Gnarled up.. that it's hard for him to catch.. I feel bad for the guy and all...

If that's they case, can someone tell me, why are they even thinking about throwing to him?

The better question is why did we bring a man with gnarled up hands to the team in the first place?

royal has gone above and beyond in his ineptitude at reciever.

ok, you have to get kellen winslow out of the locker room, because he is a cancer...i'm sure royal is great in the locker room...because he knows he is lucky to have a job!

i think winslow fits here just fine if braylon was going to be gone anyway...

I kind of believe that as well. Two different types of cancers. I think K2 would have had more of a chance to turn it around than Edwards.
Posted By: Deepsouthdawg Re: Robert Royal... - 10/13/09 02:28 PM
I cant say i miss Edwards all that much......BUT i do miss Winslow.

I wish he was here.....IMO a bad decision to pack him. I felt It was then and it looks more evident now.
