Good move. I like Bitonio. Glad the FO locked him up. thumbsup

Don't really care for the antagonistic posts by a couple of posters, though.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/03/09/report-bears-to-sign-joel-bitonio-to-monster-deal/

At a time when teams are finalizing deals for 2017 free agents, the Browns have ensured that one of their offensive linemen won’t be a 2018 free agent.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Browns are signing guard Joel Bitonio to a “monster” extension.

It’s a surprise, for a few reasons. First, he only became eligible for a second contract upon conclusion of the 2016 regular season. Second, he has missed 17 of 32 games over the past two years due to injury. Third, the move shifts the injury risk for 2017 to the Browns.

Bitonio is a rare, if not the first, member of the 2014 draft class to sign a new contract. His success helps make up for the failed pair of first-round picks that were used on cornerback Justin Gilbert and quarterback Johnny Manziel.

THIS is what you do! I know we have had FO turnover, but getting guys locked up before FA (the following year) is the way to go. Money well spent!

Supposedly he has transformed his body while rehabbing the foot injury as well.

How so? I don't recall reading or hearing anything about this. Weight loss I'm guessing?

I think. Nathan Zegura mentioned it on Cleveland Browns Daily during the Joe Thomas interview.

(I looked for the link, but the archives for that show are a mess.)

Wow....ton of money. Hopefully he can stay healthy this year because he is a very good player when he is.

That is actually not bad. Zeitler, who is probably better than Bitonio, will get more than that on his new contract.

I think there must be more to the Schwartz situation last year than meets the eye? The front office have compensated Collins and now Bitonio at least adequately enough to ensure they sign on the dotted line. Or maybe they learnt a lesson? Clever folk do that. I'm very enthused by what I've seen so far. If we can get Pryor back in the fold, I'm camping happy.

I think there may be some truth to the report that Hue went to ownership and wanted more say and that he needed players. His opinion might have carried a bit more weight w/the Haslams after they watched the 1 and 15 season unfold.
Posted By: drobs Re: Browns Extend Joel Bitonio - 03/09/17 06:46 PM
I think if they deem Hue the "man" then he needs to have such sway as long as decisions are balanced, transparent and open within the building. Trust breeds better decisions and hopefully success. I really cannot fault what has happened so far this offseason. Long way to go mind......
Posted By: oobernoober Re: Browns Extend Joel Bitonio - 03/09/17 06:48 PM
You're probably right. Whether it's Hue getting more say, the FO seems to be slowly dialing in how they want to handle their business.

What report was this? Would be an interesting read...

I think it was the one by your favorite writer [LOL] when he said the coaches went to ownership.

I think he means La Cornholio

I can't spell his name. LaCanafora or something like that.

And before you and your friends go off..........I started it all with "I think......."

It's probably always been that way. It just didn't seem like it last year.

We are seeing some consistent actions by the team this year. It was hard to see the plan last year because it was a tear down.

This year we are starting the build. I don't think Hue has gained or lost anything. I am sure he wanted Bitonio and am sure the FO did as well.
