Hubble just spotted something massive coming out of Uranus

Bursts of solar winds caused a huge sparkling region on Uranus, scientists observed this by using Hubble space telescope. Electrons that come from various origins such as solar winds, the planetary ionosphere and moon volcanism, when charged in the form of streams caused this, researchers from the Paris Observatory used the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope to observe this on Uranus. They were able to catch it in powerful magnetic fields and, controlled it into the upper atmosphere, where set off spectacular bursts of light when made interactions with gas particles, such as oxygen or nitrogen.

Research have also been made in 2012 and 2014 on this. A team led by an astronomer from Paris Observatory took a second look at the auroras using the ultraviolet capabilities of the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) installed on Hubble. Two powerful bursts of solar wind traveling from the sun to Uranus caused the interplanetary shocks and these shocks are tracked by the Scientists by using Hubble.

They found themselves observing the most intense auroras ever seen on the planet.

They collected the first direct evidence that these powerful shimmering regions rotate with the planet, when they watched the auroras over time.

They also re-discovered Uranus’ long-lost magnetic poles, which were lost shortly after their discovery by Voyager 2 in 1986 due to uncertainties in measurements and the featureless planet surface.

I hate when that happens.
I'm not surprised ... we had enchiladas last night
I'm not suprised, the government and the space aliens have both been studying my anus for years.
They are not the only ones. wink
That's what SHE said.

Fears of catastrophe as runaway Chinese space station hurtles toward Earth

A Chinese space station will crash into Earth in a matter of months - and it could kill anyone who is standing beneath.

The 8.5-ton Tiangong-1, or “Heavenly Palace”, satellite is now out of control and is doomed to plunge into the atmosphere, a top academic has warned.

Love this quote from the article...

But a huge clump of metal could still rain down on unwitting victims.

He added: "There will be lumps of about 100 [kilograms] or so, still enough to give you a nasty wallop if it hit you.

100 kilograms, is over 200 lbs.. yea, I'm pretty sure a 200 lb piece of metal falling at that speed would do more than give you a nasty wallop..
Yes, that might smart.

I guess they can't track its trajectory because it is out of control, could hit anywhere.

I'm sure they will give us a heads-up when it gets close. willynilly

What did you expect? Everybody knows that the only thing that stinks more than Uranus is crap made in China.
Uranus up close: Giant ice planet set to be its closest to Earth tonight and will be visible without a telescope

By Cheyenne Macdonald For Dailymail.com
18 October 2017

(EXCERPT) You might not need a telescope to spot Uranus tonight.

The ice giant planet will reach opposition on Thursday, bringing it to the closest point in its orbit to Earth.

In this position, the blue-green planet will be visible in the sky all night long – and, while you’ll definitely be able to see it with binoculars, NASA says Uranus may even be bright enough to see with the naked eye.

Uranus will appear a blue-green dot in the sky as it reaches opposition on October 19.

This means the icy planet and the sun will sit on opposite sides of Earth.

During this time, it will be visible in the constellation Pisces.

‘It’s visible all night long and its blue-green color is unmistakable,’ according to Jane Houston Jones from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

‘It may be bright enough to see with your naked eye – and for sure in binoculars.’

The view of Uranus is just one of many celestial phenomena that can be seen from the ground this month, including a meteor shower.

Saturn will make an appearance in just a few days, sitting above the moon on October 23rd, and below it on the 24th, according to NASA.

And on Friday October 20th, the Orionid meteor shower will reach its peak.

I gotta think it's unlikely to see Uranus with the naked eye.

I'm pretty sure man has studied the heavens very thoroughly for thousands of years.

Uranus wasn't known to exist until 1781.

Wait.

Just looked it up, it may have been spotted ~ 128 BC.

You know, wise men has been cataloging everything in the night sky since a long time.
My anus has been seen by lots and lots of folks without a telescope. I have no idea about uranus.

I’ve heard Uranus is a gaseous giant.
It's oh so true
Good news for those who can't find it with both hands and friendly help . . . . Behold! Uranus!
Klingons again? I thought we wiped them out.
Maybe we should call StarFLEET

Mysterious object from deep space has entered the solar system willynilly

It was first seen just a month ago. A tiny blip of light was seen to be moving through the sky by the PanSTARRS1 telescope in Hawaii.

The number-crunching which followed was automatic. The results were unusual.

This object is in an odd position. It’s moving very fast. And it’s in what appears to be a somewhat extreme orbit. Extreme enough not to actually be an orbit, in fact.

Observations published by the by the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center (MPC) suggest it could have come from deep space.

Specifically, it could be a comet that has escaped another star.

“If further observations confirm the unusual nature of this orbit, this object may be the first clear case of an interstellar comet,” the MPC declares.

It's the death star.

It's amazing.

This object is only 160 meters wide?

That's less than two football fields.

How can we possibly see this thing?

it really is URanus then. . . .
Little did he know, but when Sir William Herschel announced its discovery on 13 March 1781, he sent us down a long and glorious path of butt jokes. Thank you.

Did Something Massive Smash Into Uranus?

You might be aware of one of Uranus’ complexities: It spins on its side, and its moons orbit on that same rotated plane. New evidence strengthens the case that Uranus was smashed in a giant collision, resulting in its sideways orientation to its orbital plane and perhaps explaining some of the planet’s other mysteries.

A new paper performs a series of simulations on Uranus early in its history, taking note of what an early impact may have done to its rotation rate, atmosphere, and internal structure. The impact could have left a clear signature still visible inside the planet we see today.

Uranus really is strange. Not only does it rotate on an axis that sits at a 98-degree angle to its orbital plane, but, unlike the other giant planets, it doesn’t appear to release more heat than it receives from the Sun. Its magnetic field, too, appears warped compared to the Earth’s. An impact could perhaps help explain some of these strange traits.

Scientists have been simulating giant impacts into Uranus since the early 1990s, according to the new paper published in the Astrophysical Journal. This time around, researchers built a new simulation with the newest and best available data of the planet’s composition. This allowed them to model how a giant impactor, perhaps one to three times the mass of Earth, would have deposited “material and energy inside Uranus” and how much debris would be left over, from which moons could form.

“This study provides some great new insights into what might have happened all those billions of years ago, with material left over from the impact possibly even serving to trap some of that heat inside,” Leigh Fletcher, Royal Society Research Fellow at the University of Leicester, told Gizmodo.

But this is just a simulation, and like we always say: All models are flawed, but some are interesting. Models can’t tell us exactly what happened; it will take a lot more data to fully understand Uranus’ story. “Of course, what we really need next is an ambitious robotic mission to explore Uranus and its diverse satellite system,” said Fletcher. “Gravitational, atmospheric, and magnetic field mapping, following what we’ve done at Jupiter with Juno, and at Saturn with Cassini, could provide some new clues to better constrain these models, by unlocking the secrets of an ice giant interior for the first time.”

Uranus is truly a mystery. Will humans finally take up the task to explore it?

When it comes to Uranus, the laughs just write themselves. LMAO, its like there's a small part of my brain that's still 10 years old. Okay ... a medium part of my brain.
Who named that planet? Can you imagine the meeting of astronomers when it happened?

Alright gentlemen, what shall we name this planet?

Random guy: I know! Uranus!

Everyone else: (staring) Wait , he’s serious...
It had to be a redneck that named it. Probably related to me brownie

It's named for a Greek god.. probably the god of inert gases.
Ouranos was the god of the sky. He was the husband of Gaia, mother earth.
I think the name was ultimately picked by a German who horribly misjudged the childish humor of English speakers failed to understand how that name would sound to those who spoke English.

Eric Idle has been thanking him ever since.
Uranus will be visible to everyone in the UK tonight

Jeff Parsons, UK Metro
Friday 26 Oct 2018

If you’ve ever wanted to get a really good look at Uranus, then tonight is your best opportunity. Not only is the distant planet at the closest point to Earth in its orbit at the moment, but it’s also particularly easy to locate. The seventh planet from the sun can be found just to the left of the moon in the night sky all this week.

The moon is starting to wane after last night’s full moon, but it will still be shining brightly in the sky. Helpful for locating the distant planet.

Uranus lies south-west in the constellation of Aries, close to Pisces, and should appear as a small turquoise dot. You’ll be able to glimpse it with the naked eye, but you’ll get a much better view if you can lay your hands on a telescope or pair of binoculars.

October is the best time to observe this planet because it’s in opposition to the sun. It’ll rise when the sun sets and stay visible all through the night; providing the clouds stay away.

Uranus has a few strange quirks such as rotating on its side, rather than on an axis like the Earth. Secondly, it’s actually colder than Nepture, despite being closer to the sun.

If you plan on getting out to see Uranus this evening then make sure you wrap up warm and try to get as far away from light pollution as possible.
