I have been a big fan of this guy for many years. He is the man of slide guitar playing. But on top of that there is a honesty in his music. Hard to describe. The songs he plays. The overall sound. I am going to show three numbers but there are lots that I love.

The first is a Woody Guthrie song.

on this song his son is on percussion.

Loved his work on the "Paris, Texas" soundtrack. Great movie too.

From the Stones' iconic "Sticky Fingers" album, Ry Cooder plays slide on "Sister Morphine". A couple decades later and it would have been a huge hit, but it was too controversial to get any radio air when the album was released in the early 70's.

Man this guy is so overlooked! He'll probably be another artist that won't get the recognition he deserves until after he's gone and that's just sad.

Much the same way I feel about Billy Joe Shaver.

If you really look around it is incredible how many heavyweights this guy has played with.

I can be listening to a song and think wow Ry is playing. He has such a unique distinctive sound.

This is from the soundtrack of the movie Performance. One of my favorite songs sung by Jagger.
