- Baker's timing and accuracy to be on point.

- the Oline returning to last years form.

- The RBs owning the opposition.

- the Dline getting a lot of pressure.

- the DBs not allowing big plays.

Cleveland Browns at Jacksonville Jaguars odds and lines: NFL gets first look at Trevor Lawrence

https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/2021..._source=twitter

The Jacksonville Jaguars will unveil rookie QB Trevor Lawrence to the rest of the NFL Saturday when they take on the Cleveland Browns in the preseason opener for both sides. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. ET at TIAA Bank Field. Below, we look at the Browns at Jaguars odds and lines.

The Jaguars finished 1-15 last season and secured the right to select Lawrence with the No. 1 pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. He’ll be complemented by new head coach Urban Meyer, fellow first-round pick RB Travis Etienne and a slew of offseason acquisitions, including WR Marvin Jones.

It all combines to make the 2021 campaign one of the most anticipated in recent Jaguars history.

The Browns look to keep the good times rolling after making the postseason for the first time since 2002 and winning a playoff game for the first time since 1994. QB Baker Mayfield and the rest of the returning core from last year’s successful campaign aren’t likely to see much of the field in the preseason opener.

Browns at Jaguars: Odds, spread and line
Odds via Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Monday at 5:25 p.m. ET.

Money line: Browns +105 (bet $100 to win $105) | Jaguars -130 (bet $130 to win $100)
Against the spread/ATS: Browns +2.5, -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Jaguars -2.5, -105 (bet $105 to win $100)
Total: 37.5, Over -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Under -115 (bet $115 to win $100)

2020 Betting stats (regular season):

ATS: Browns 6-10 | Jaguars 7-9
O/U: Browns 9-7 | Jaguars 8-8

New to NFL betting?
The Jaguars are slight home favorites with an implied win probability of 56.52%. Their -130 money line odds can be expressed as a fraction of 10/13 or a decimal of 1.77. Jacksonville will need to win by 3 or more points in order to cover the spread.

The Browns must lose by 2 or fewer points, or win outright, in order to cover the spread. Their +105 odds represent an implied win probability of 48.78%.

The Jaguars and Browns must combine to score 38 or more points for a bet on the Over 37.5 to cash. A point total of 37 or fewer points is a win for the Under. The odds price the Under as the more likely result on the projected total.

A defense that can get off the field on 3rd down and whatever. Not just this game, but all year.
Posted By: oobernoober Re: What do you want to see? - 08/10/21 03:44 AM
#1, 2, 3 - No injuries

#4 - D doesn't make rookie QB look like P. Manning 2.0

#5 - Offense to look like it's going to pick up where it left off.

On October 11th 2020 iirc, the Raiders beat the Chiefs, 40-32, looked it up earlier today, But! They used TWO, passes greater than 55 yards for scores in that game.

For that reason, I want to see the starting offense, drop back, and try passing plays Greater than 30 yards through the air,

win lose or Touchdown or interception, but practice overcoming that safety, and I want to see it on consecutive downs, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th,

why punt, the game doesn't matter. Now,

There is only reason to have one preseason game, I've decided, and that reason for one game,
is to get a look at the UDFA's from the current year. The Browns had 5 UDFAs

( 3 days ago, the Browns waived Rb Tre Harbison, charlotte, after his concussion and mention in Stefanski's presser.)
Malik McDowell de out with an oblique injury.
that leaves
Romeo McKnight de
Emmanuel Rugumba Cb, Miami oh. and
Kiondre Thomas Cb, Kansas State, as the UDFA's from this year,
I want to see how they play.

I don't need or want to see any of the offensive linemen, don't care, just hope that some stay healthy until the season starts.
I don't really care about the wide receivers apart from the above mention of trying those very deep safety challenging plays in prep. for the Chiefs in the opener.

I don't really care about seeing the defense dominate in the pass rush, but, Curtis Weaver might be nice to see, BUT! it's not necessary as there is a chance to see him in the regular season.

Personally the only thing I want to see from the special teams is that they get better than the previous play and work toward an excellence of executing their roles without penalties.
and if all the kicks go in.

I could give a Cowpie, pretty much Ever, if they down a punt inside the 20. One of the worst concepts in all of football is trying to pretend it means anything to down a punt inside the 20. Is it nice, yeah! Is it a goal? NO! the Goal is to not have to punt in the first place.

I don't want to see the referees demonstrate a new rule and how to call a whistle to highlight a new way to call the game. Ie. the new rule of tackle box expands to tight end box...
NOBODY SHOULD GIVE A RIP!

I don't want to see Al Micheals face on my TV screen ever again. Sure his family loves him, if he wants to talk, do it from a radio setting.

I don't want to see the Mannings. I don't want to see any Manning anytime. In Fact, I consider it a slap in my face that Bernie Kosar isn't in the hall of fame, iirc, and any of those losers are, when the rules were different for the different era
and Bernie was more impactful on the game of football imo, which is a reason he should be in the Hall.

I don't want to hear about Joe Thomas maybe getting in in the future for that matter, for similar reasons. Its a slap in the face and a reminder that the city of Cleveland is the whipping boy of the national cities.

Of Course they'd only vote for a Browns member, from teams that lost for the majority of the time, and keep out players from years when they won.

How did Kosar change the game? He was the most accurate thrower of my lifetime. He helped make Elway's career and was a part of the infamous failed wide called field goal game, (known as the drive) where there was no scenario that a score could do more than tie the game on that drive because at the time the 2pt conversion was not permitted.

the 2020 NFL season showed how well things can go with no preseason games.

The NBA, no preseason,? I don't know I don't watch it.
The NHL, no preseason.
North American Stock Car Auto Racing? No preseason!

Mixed Martial Arts? No preseason!
Major League Soccer, no preseason?
College Football no preseason!

Is that all the sports, I think so. PBA bowling no preseason, the Olympics no preseason.

If it weren't for the probable Fact we'd never see the UDFA's play at all, there'd be no reason for the NFL to have any preseason, as is I think they should limit it to one game.

If they're going to keep score might as well want to see the Browns win.

Should Mayfield and Keenum Both, consider it an act of disrespect that the other team is favored in the betting line while placing their season largely in an unproven first time quarterback.

not one of our staters playing a snap in pre-season. That's what I want to see.

Now that we have that out of the way, we can all probably skip that part moving forward and assume we all put that at the top of the list and don't need to mention it in 5000 posts the rest of the preseason. Unless somebody is hoping for injuries and wants to say that, my assumption in nobody wants anybody to get injured.

As for the game, it's hard to say being the 1st game. I just want to see the guys working together , sideline communications clean, and see how the 2nd and 3rd team battles are looking.

No.

Jacksonville has a lot more to gain by winning preseason games then to the Browns.

There was a time where it was important for us to win preseason games because that was the only time Hue Jackson could win games.
Posted By: bonefish Re: What do you want to see? - 08/10/21 11:43 AM

This game should be a fact finding mission.

Veteran starters who are known and proven should not play.
Baker, Chubb, Hunt, Odell, Jarvis, Myles, Clowney, Bitonio, Tretter, Conklin, Ward.

All players considered as depth should play. And they should play a lot.

We need to find out about who is second string and the bottom of the roster.

The goal is to be ready for opening day and be healthy.

Sharpen where needed.

I want the Browns to plant the "WTF did I get myself into?" look on Urban Meyer's face. I like Urban, but I love the Browns.

Just come out of the game healthy.. Play tough and smart.. Wanna see the Oline keep up what they started last year. Want to see an improved D.

Oh,, Clowney and Garret get a few sacks...
Posted By: oobernoober Re: What do you want to see? - 08/10/21 12:34 PM
I wouldn't mind getting a small taste of what we're expecting out of the team (explosive offensive plays, sacks by Garrett and Clowney, and picks by our overhauled secondary, maybe a big play from one or more of our developing young'ins), but I'm going to be looking for lots of tape on our ? guys (ex. Weaver, McDowell, AJ Green, etc).
Posted By: THROW LONG Re: What do you want to see? - 08/10/21 12:48 PM
I don't see much reason to hope they upstage the Jaguars because, the Browns probably won't see them the rest of this year. There is very little chance that both the Browns and Jaguars make the playoffs and then meet in a game this season, and they aren't on the schedule.

I would like to see, how about, just an all out like 7 man sell out blitz, on about 5 consecutive plays, and hope the Db's can hold on so it doesn't come back to bite them.
What's the worst that could happen, since this may be the one game where the outcome really doesn't matter.

Shortening the preseason, from 4 games to 3, is not going to make the final game, (game 3 now, previous game 4),
any less, of a debacle where neither coach will show anything.

So in a sense, the relevant, or, the games with relevant portions of them, shrank from 3, to 2.

( Cutting Edge idea. The Entire NFL schedule starts a week earlier. There would only be ONE pre season game.)

Around scheduled week #7, The final weekend before Halloween, the entire league gets a bye week, in addition to their scheduled bye week wherever it falls.

NFL Football returns on Halloween Sunday for the 2nd and 3rd halves of the season +postseason.)
Start a new tradition!

I want to see our starters on both sides get one or two series to see where they stand against another opponent. I'm sure they're looking forward to working against someone else, too.

I *really* want to see this defense against someone other than us.
I want to see no injuries on either team.

I want to see Felton in action.

I want to see our interior DL and who we're putting where and who can get things done.

I want to get a taste for how well, or how poorly, this revamped secondary can cover.
Posted By: MemphisBrownie Re: What do you want to see? - 08/10/21 02:38 PM
I'd like to see...

The depth on the interior DL.
The young WRs.
The alleged swiss army knife that is Demetric Felton.

It will never happen, as the NFL would lose a week of TV revenues with no games being played.

Posted By: THROW LONG Re: What do you want to see? - 08/10/21 04:30 PM
2020 proved not only were schedules fluid but broadcasts too.

Actually there wouldn't need be any lost revenue, actually, probably more revenue would be made by shows talking about football.
Look at it this way. There are 52 weeks in a year.

This would just substitute an off week, say the week before the hall of fame game, (where no games are played) with an off week, just prior to Halloween, allowing all the players more rest and recover time.

The NFL regular season time frame would grow from 18 of 52 weeks, to 19 of 52 weeks, giving an additional week for everyone to discuss the progress of the season.

And, everyone knows, they'd shove in an extra Wednesday Night, or Tuesday night, game, they'd finagle it to have a couple more nationaly televised games, allowing more revenue.

It's always a crazy idea, until it's not.
There is a convertible automobile in outer space.

The depth on the interior DL...

I don't think we would get a freeze frame picture on the goal line Browns defense, but it might be nice to see who they'd put in.

Let's face it, we all love that football is back. But if we all tried to draw any conclusions from our preseason games and previous preseason records, which some people have done, it paints a picture that clearly isn't real.

Usually the only game our starters play in enough to get any indication in is game three.

There is a problem with most preseason games.

Folks like you and me know enough to care about the football game.

The Televised broadast is catering to a bunch of fairweather fans, who don't know, well all they care about are the top few players on any team.

I'm going to be watching for Curtis Weaver to make a play, or D'Ernest Johnson to get a run off,

I don't think it is possible to see enough to draw any conclusions this early on. I just want to see them get enough work to have something to take back to the film room and get better and maybe sharpen some things for the following week, and again for the week after that. Especially on defense... this will be their first time making calls against a group where they don't know exactly what's coming. It will be good work for them.

A search of Demetric Felton on podcasts, the day after he was drafted, landed me on one listen to a UCLA Opponent about to play them.

The gist is Felton was the offensive star, jack of all trades to be accounted for, have to prepare for when going against UCLA.
A look at his college stats, the one thing missing seems to be, he doesn't seem to be a between the tackles, north south, dominant runner, that is his weakest asset, Everything else seemed, he can excel at,
whether it's returns, to catches from the backfield, to outside runs, to catches from the slot, and maybe outside receiver,
If you get him the ball in space, I mean, if he had a couple 70+ yard tds, they had to come from somewhere.

I think he will be kind of a slot receiver who meets in the running backs room.

I want him to play running back. I don't care about returning kicks because returning kickoffs largely doesn't matter anymore.

Donovan Peoples Jones seemed to perfect the call for a fair catch play on returns in 2020 no matter the situation. No matter how close he was to his own goal line or how much room to run was in front of him.
I mean, he must have had 4+ fair catches on his own 11.

The one player who I will pay the most attention to is Jeremiah Owusu Koramora.

He was the player I wanted most in the draft.

I really believe in this young man. And I expect him to play well.

Curious about Greedy. I like him. I want him to succeed. I really liked him coming out of college. He has great feet and good length. He is a good press corner. He needs to get out there and leave the injury behind. He worked hard to get back. Hopefully, he plays well.

I thought Greedy when he did play needed a lot of work. He needs to play well that is for sure. I view him as depth at this point Newsome will get the starts I believe??

I expect JOK to flash, he has a lot of catching up to do and I think will play a very small roll in the Browns defense this year at least to start as he masters one alignment at a time. He is going to be a stud, but it is likely to take time. I really trust our coaches to handle him just right. It's so important for young players to have some time to develop and I also think it's why we had so many failures with past draft picks. Build up his confidence work him in areas that lead to success and grow his roll as he shows he can handle it.

At he least it is interesting, possibly troubling that we haven't heard anything about Forbes.

He might be a guy to watch and see if and when he is used.

Mostly I want to see improvement from the defense.
How good Greg Newsome is and if he can be a shut down corner.
See how good JOK is and if he can improve our LB core.
Want to see improvement from Mack Wilson.
If Clowney still has it and can improve our D-line.

On offense Baker will probably play a series or two or not at all. Want to see how Keenum does and improvement from the O-line.

Communication or execution. Good calls, crappy tackling lame coverage on the back end.

I want to see some crisp defense, Keenum to stand out, and an OL that has some depth. Part of what I hope to see is what I hope I don't see: Injuries and penalties, in that selfsame order. Hope we play tough and get off the field. Starters should stay off the field as much as possible.

Really want to see the defense. Want to see how big and deep the rotation will be, and what the PS might look like. This year more than ever since the Return, we will be cutting talent, not just flushing the wrong guys. Luck to all. Kick some tonight. brownie

What makes it so hard is usually our depth is playing against their depth. So trying to project how that would translate in a regular season game against an opponents staring caliber players is something that's damned near impossible to determine.

You can certainly look at their technique, Keenum's accuracy and such. But with better CB's and S's, better pass rushers who might apply more pressure, would he do as well?

I'll just be happy to see some Browns football. But over the years I've learned it isn't really going to tell me much big picture. I've seen us go 4-0 in the preseason and then suck all year.

Naturally we have the talent now that I can't see anything like that happening but it's a strong indication that you really can't garner much insight from preseason.

rofl I originally thought, that I remember from about 1980-1982. But

TTTdawg (and I can't see his video or picture, has referenced an advertisement that google says. After an example from 1978, and 1976.
see.
" you asked for it, you got it! Toyotta-" was a tagline from a commercial
from Toyottas American campaign throughout the 1970's.
much along the times of
"coke is it"! or
"plop plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is" for tumms. or something.

also, I'm a pepper he's a pepper, she's a pepper, wouldn't you like to be a pepper too, but I understand so many people were born much younger
they missed out,
they missed out on cars that could do a burnout, and sound like a, sound like a lion.

We were all born at the same age. Newborns.

How 'bout what I don't want to see... ever again...

AJ McCarron has no business playing QB. Talk about us dodging a bullet. In his Atlanta debut he was 5 of 12 for 36 yards and two terrible interceptions thrown directly to the defender. This is an honest assessment, regardless of who posted it:

Jeremiah plays linebacker but in many ways he reminds me of Ed Reed.

JOK has that ability to knife past blockers much like Reed use to. It is a matter of slipping past blockers not letting them get to you clean.

I saw him do it on a couple plays.

I expected him to play well. There were probably things he messed up. But, once he gets comfortable inside the defense and he knows his assignments. He will be a star.

He can cover a slot and shoot a gap on a blitz. That is because of his skill set. He has unique natural ability.

IMO he will improve each game. He will be a factor in games.

I wasn't reading much in to it. It's just that much was made of the guy 2 years ago before the opt out, and now nothing. I find it a bit troubling from the standpoint that he isn't being mentioned, not from the standpoint I was counting on him to start or anything like that.

I haven't heard much about any of our backup OL, except for when reporters as about the kid we took this year in the draft.

I just don't think many eyes are on the Oline depth. Pretty much any other positional group has a more compelling story going on in it.
