Well, the other one was locked... so let us nerds continue HERE!

I dislike EA only on the terms that you buy a game, and have to buy more to get the most out of it. Too much DLC, too expensive...
Posted By: RocketOptimist Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 07/25/17 01:33 PM
I despise how Ultimate Teams became the focus of their sports games. Talk about a bunch of trash.
Posted By: ThatGuy Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 07/25/17 06:29 PM
I hate how we went from a new system every 7-8 years to just a new "version" of the same on every 3-4.

And somehow they're more expensive.

Jump on with the Switch.

The new xbox thing looks silly.

EA is behind it, so I'm still skeptical.

I think they learned their lesson from last time. I'm not sure if that was EA's idea to make a bare bones game with just multi player, or if it was Disney/Star Wars...

They thought they could basically do what Call of Duty does. Call of Duty can put almost no thought into their single player, because of their built up multi-player community.

EA took a game that was really good 10 years prior and tried to make it Call of Duty. Not so fast. I think this time around they will treat players to a full and fun single and multi player game.

I still miss the old ps2 Star Wars Battlefront games. Those were incredible and felt like you were watching the movies.

Man, those old PS2 Battelfront games... my friends and I would just play all night long.

Wow, just saw this gameplay trailer for the new AC game. November/December is going to be a hopping time. Battlefront, AC, God of War and many others.

However will I pick what game I want to pay retail price?????????

Posted By: ThatGuy Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 07/28/17 07:45 PM
Aren't they all the same price?
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 07/28/17 08:01 PM
When first released, yes. But if you wait, you can snag them off eBay, Craigslist or other sources used for cheap(er).

I've got my eye on Anthem, even though Bioware really screwed the pooch on Mass Effect.

Wow, yet another game trailer I watched that I'm getting interested in. PS4 exclusive though:

I own both systems (no Switch though. I have WiiU instead, so I have played Zelda and Mario Kart), but Sony's exclusives have far surpassed Microsoft's.

IMO, of this generation, PS4 would be the system to get if you had to get one.

Bloodborne, Horizon, and Uncharted 4 are games hard to match up with.

I haven't played Nioh, the Last Guardian, Until Dawn and am not a big JRPG fan, so I dunno about that Persona 5 game, but I really don't think my xbox has games that match up to those.

I had fun with Sunset Overdrive. Halo whatever was fun and so was Gears Of War, but none are at the level of those three.

I love my xbox though. Xbox One S is a good system. And I prefer the batteries to all the charging I do with my PS4 controllers, but if I was going to choose between the two, I'd have to go PS4.

Right off the bat, Horizon is just at another level vs any other xbox exclusive. I prefer it over Zelda. Probably the best game of 2017 IMO. That right there makes PS4 the best value IMO.

The one thing i don't like with my ps4 is that i'm always having to replace the right trigger in my controller. That and I had this eject button problem where my games kept ejecting right in the middle of playing, but youtube got me straightened out on both those.
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 08/04/17 02:01 AM
I'm actually needing to replace my right analog on one of my controllers too. For Battlefront, it's what you use to run, and constantly unless I'm pressing hard on it, will it fail. Is it hard?

Right analog stick? I dunno. But they sell them on amazon.

I imagine, with youtube it can't be that hard. And what's the worst that can happen? You find yourself in over your head, buy a new controller.

And if it works? You have a wealth of knowledge that can replace many analogs.

I'm thinking about replacing mine actually. They seem to have like crud in them built up over time and they just don't feel right anymore. Sort of like the Nintendo 64 analogs sticks of old.

I can say that opening the cotroller isn't difficult. You just might need to get a real small screw driver set from Lowes or Home Depot for like 10$.

Here's a youtube video on it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj53qv2dsck

Doesn't look that hard if you do it step by step on a cleared out table or something. Kind of neat too as you get to sort of see how the controller works. Definitely looks like less of a pain in the butt than replacing hte triggers, because it looks like it requires far less dexterity than what it takes replacing the triggers

EDIT: You figure, if the controller is already screwed, you buy a set of analogs for like 8$, and a small screw driver for 10$ (which remains handy with many diff electronics stuff). So worst comes to worst, you're out 20 bucks. And best comes to best, you can say you fixed it, tell your buddies that you fixed it, tell the board you fixed it, and feel like the man
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 08/04/17 01:17 PM
Thanks Petey!

I actually think my "thumb sticks" are fine, and I lied it's my left stick on the controller. Like for example on Battlefront, to run, you need to click it down then you'll run until you let go or stop. It'll stop running when you're wanting to still run.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3v7CWNkZGg

I might try it. Like you said, what do I really have to lose? Haha! Again though, thanks. Never really considered repairing it.

Interesting, but looks like it's DS3 controller, not 4 in that video. Maybe the fix will be teh same (unless you're talking about your DS3)

I've had to replace my right trigger in my DS4 controllers 2 or 3 times already, for each one (I have two).

I think I squeeze the trigger too hard or I rapid fire the thing too much. Probably a mixture of both. Either way, right triggers go for me all the time.

Otherwise, I treat my controllers well. It's amazing being an adult gamer, and then grabbing a controller of one of my friend's kids systems or something, and seeing how low quality it is.

Children will put a beating on anything

Finished Doom (amazing game!), and started up Saints Row 4. Not sure how I feel about it just yet. Definitely a lot crazier than the last 3. SR3 was a lot of fun though. Kinda wish they would port that to the ps4.

So I don't know a ton about PC gaming... I'm wondering if you guys could recommend a good laptop that I could possibly play a game or two on.

I love Cities Skylines and the occasional game of Civ... I don't do any other games on PC really. Is there a solid laptop that could handle playing that game?

I can't trust EA at all anymore. Every single thing they make a decision on is based on how much they can bilk consumers. That's why just about everything they do focus on
is multiplayer or bundles. Battlefront was all multiplayer. EA Games focuses on those ultimate team modes because the card packs are straight income. Mass Effect 3's ending was a turd because all resources were put into making multiplayer work halfway through the project.

I thought ME Andromeda wasn't really as bad as people were making it out to be. They had a decent storyline with a lot of things left to be told in the plot. But they just completely pulled the plug on eveything execept multiplayer. Why? Because MP is the only thing that makes them good money at the moment. They don't seem to realize that making a good single player game is what builds and retains a fanbase. They would rather just go straight for their wallets instead.
Posted By: Bull_Dawg Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 08/24/17 01:34 PM
They've got to make a living, too. I don't like it, but it's what works now. It's not just EA. Pretty much all the studios use the microtransaction and DLC models now.

Anybody plan on picking up Destiny 2?
Posted By: oobernoober Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 08/25/17 12:06 AM
I have a Destiny 2 pre-order.

And yes, companies need to make money. They don't need to suck every last penny out of each game. The most recent Mass Effect is a great example.
They worked on that game for quite a while. It appears as though they have single-player DLC lined up. The game sold a bunch, but then just petered out. People would have eaten up single-player DLC and sequals... if the effort and performance was there. It wasn't, so people got mad.

Exactly. People won't mind DLC and other micro-transactions if it comes with a decent game. Mass Effect 2 is a great example. The main story was amazing and gameplay terrific. They came out with a dozen or so DLC packages, and they were well received. People played the crap out of that game. The could probably still sell DLC for it ... wait, you didn't hear me say that EA.

Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda have the stench of EA all over it. It was pretty much confirmed that the emphasis of ME3 was switched about halfway through from single player to getting multiplayer launched. You could actually see the switch in the game. The first half of the game is incredible. The last half of the game is a craptastic rubber stamp job, trying to get the game out the door. The multiplayer is also terribly shoehorned into the game, and pretty much required to play if you want to get the max points in single player. So what a great way to get your fanbase excited for multiplayer! Force it onto your Single Player base!

Andromeda was more of the same. They spent a good deal of time on it, so the game itself wasn't too bad, but it was still a fraction of the game that previous versions were. Then when all of the updates and DLC were focused on Multiplayer, you could tell it was all they really cared about. The single player game had flaws, but it was something they could build on. Instead, they pushed the micro-transactions.

The problem is, you can't make money off a game people don't like. And EA doesn't seem to care. They take titles that people used to like, and rush out crap remakes in hopes that they can quickly cash in on more micro-transactions. Then when sales fall flat, they just blame the franchise and kill it.

If they want to make money, then they should put out a quality game. Instead, they release a barebones game and still charge $60 for it.

Gotta say, I just beat Assassin's Creed: Unity. Bought a game code for like 4$ or something (off Ebay), and I really enjoyed it. I don't spend the time I used to trying to do most of the missions, but for 4$, I just did the main story and had a lot of fun.

Highly recommended. Game takes place in France during the French Revolution. And not too much of the bring ya back to current day for the simulation stuff that I hate about Assassin's Creed (never understood the point of that. I play the game to play the assassin character, I don't need anything to do with the now in Assassin's Creed)

Next one up for me will be Battlefield 1. I tried playing online a bit, but was getting my butt kicked. Maybe 1-3 or 2-3 ratio. I'll play the single player missions I guess.

And Destiny 2 has been released. I've been hearing very good things

So far, so good. Definitely looks great.

Only wish it hadn't been released at the same time as football season starting and my courses starting back up. Too many things competing for my attention.

I hear ya. I don't have as many distractions, but with my job I can only online game for a month at a time.

It's like I'm already too committed this month to play.

My best buddy is picking up his tonight I think. He's sort of pushing me to get it.

I thought Destiny 1 was okay. I just wish there was some sort of story to get me attached to the game. We did play the missions together (best buddy and i) over the phone, and that was a lot of fun

I'm 96% to my first platinum with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands. The rest are online, so they'll have to wait until November. I figure I'll join for the new WW2 COD game.

Just was looking. Could be pretty sweet. I like the setting a lot.

The thing that makes me nervous is that it's Ubisoft Montreal, who released Unity with a bunch of bugs and glitches (from what I heard).

Might be a little while and a couple patches later before you play the game.

Even still, I had a digital copy of Unity freeze on me at points in the game. Kinda ridiculous
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 09/08/17 12:54 PM
Yes, I'm actually not a mega fan of Ubisoft but they delayed their usual pushing of AC games left and right to focus strongly on a new one. I have high expectations.

Sweet. I really liked Black Flag, and Unity was pretty good. I plan to beat Synchronicity in October (while I'm away on a boat at work).

I'll probably fit Origins in sometime next year unless I get a great Black Friday deal.

Lotta god games to play
Posted By: PeteyDangerous Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 09/16/17 12:57 PM
Beat Battlefield 1's campaign. And i'm just dabbling in their multiplayer. I just can't get into playing over the internet. Maybe because i have no friends to play with (i'm 32), but it's still not my thing.

I enjoyed the campaign, and only paid 15$ for the game, so I've got no complaints.

But I grabbed Mass Effect: Andromeda off Amazon for 20$. Game is wonderful. Parts of the gameplay are worse, but I love the new character, new world, new mission thing. IMO, this is the best game I've played since Horizon: Until Dawn (My favorite of the year over Zelda, hands down).

No complaints about Andromeda so far. And I've had to put at least 6 to 8 hours in
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 09/18/17 01:26 PM
BF online is actually awesome. If you put yourself on a crappy team, just leave and find a different one!

ME: Andromeda was good. I enjoyed playing it, but it's just nowhere near as good as the previous games.

Part of me is pissed at Bioware/EA for putting the franchise in the toilet, and the other part is glad that they aren't going to string this out any longer. If that's the best you can do after however many years of development... well, best to just fold 'em up.

Guess i'm gonna have to disagree. I'm loving this game. But i guess it's up my alley.

I see it as different than the other Mass Effects. And I'm enjoying it.

I hope they rethink things and decide to at least make another. A sequel, something.

Space is my favorite setting. Action RPGs are generally my favorite types of games. Game is made for me, no matter how it stands up to its predecessors.

I'm not gonna fault them because the game isn't as good as the original Mass Effect (my favorite). As long as i'm enjoying it, I'm happy.

Second best game I've played this far (for me). I think I like it more than Zelda. Hard to compete with Horizon though

How is that? I was super excited during the development, but never bought the game, and didn't hear a ton about it, other than it's a lot better than the Division (LOL).

I think I'm going to buy the PS+ when the new COD comes out. I should probably preorder that.

I'm not much of a preorder guy to begin with but I did go ahead and preorder Far Cry 5. seriously go on youtube and watch some of the gameplay. Looks amazing, set in rural Montana, where you are fighting cultists. I love all the FC games so I am in, plus I have a price guarantee with my preorder with amazon. I get the game for maxmium 46 bucks. Amazing. Plus it comes out in February where its freaking dark by the time I get home anyway...

I started playing Saints Row 4 with all the DLC, but kinda lost interest after a week. I love the series, but I hate the lack of a day/night cycle, and things just seem way too easy because of all the ridiculous powers you have. I hope with their next game they go back to the work they did with 2 and 3 which were stellar games.

I started playing the Metro 2033 remaster. I'm about 45 minutes in, not sure how I feel, but I grabbed it for 13 bucks. I have a stack of games that I'm dying to play, so ya better get my attention quick if I'm gonna stick around.

Also thinking about replaying RDR on ps3. I've been playing NCAA on my 3 anyway. Such an amazing game, I can't wait for the new RDR.

My take on Wildlands is I hated it and should have bought Mass Effect (with poor reviews) instead. I've still yet to play it again since I quit awhile ago, but haven't sold it yet. If you have a friend or something, then I heard Wildlands is probably very fun and etc to play.

To me Wildlands was very fun if you have 2 or 3 buddies to play with. If you do are trying to play yourself, its just the same thing over and over again.

Best part of the game, I acquired a parachute when my brother and friend did not. We got in a chopper (I was pilot) and I took it to the clouds. I then hopped out and let them fall to their demise as I floated to the ground. The cuss words I heard from them will stick with me to the day I die smile

That's hilarious.

I find that Destiny is similar (you need people playing with you to make it fun), but you are able to enjoy the game for a while if you are solo.

Are you on Xbox?
Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 09/22/17 08:18 PM
PSN - I was a devout Xbox user until the PS4 came out, everything I read said many many more games, and better tech, and tends to be true.
Posted By: oobernoober Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 09/22/17 08:24 PM
I am firmly entrenched in Xbox because many of my friends from college and high school (that still play) are on there. I don't see myself leaving for PS.

If I had started with PS, I would probably feel the same way about that console.

I own them both. But I don't play multiplayer, at least not with friends.

My only friend who plays video games still has playstation and xbox, but he already bought Destiny 2 for playstation, so I'll eventually get that so we can do a campaign together.

Honestly, the whole multiplayer gaming thing doesn't do it for me. I've tried it, and never had much interest lately. When I was in middle school/highschool, I was heavy into PC Multiplayer Gaming (I was an excellent Counter Strike/TFC player) and I played a lot of Age of Empires via the internet.

But with consoles, and at the age of 32, I prefer to play single player games. I enjoyed Destiny, but had no interest in doing anything with anyone else. Wouldn't have changed much for me if it was single player only (except for going through one campaign with my buddy).

Looking at my lineup of the next two games I'll be playing after I beat Mass Effect: Andromeda (which I'm still loving, hooked on that one), Quantam Break and Assassin's Creed in London.

But I play a lot of games, and I'll say, after Witcher 3 (multi-plat), Horizon is the best game of this generation IMO (over Zelda). After that, there's multi-plats, but Bloodborne is up there in that tier (right behind Horizon). Sunset Boulevard is my fav Xbox Exclusive, and it just doesn't rank up there with the best on PS4.

I play a lot of games, and hands down this generation, PS4 has the better games. It's not even close. I don't include Nintendo because they just don't have that many games, period. Their recent systems might as well be considered a 1st part only exclusive system. Plus, they [censored] me off (yet I buy their systems too)

I've played a bit of PSVR and I'm impressed, but I get a bit of the VR Motion Sickness stuff.

I think that hurts it, plus I think the games are so demanding that developers struggle making a full game the likes of most console games.

I've played that eagle game, the demos that came with the system, the machine game that got me all nauseous as I'd jump from asteroid to asteroid, and then the Star Wars add on where you're in a fighter ship. The demo game that was the jewel heist game IMO was wonderful. And the eagle flying game was good too.

But either way, I think the PSVR simply doesn't have the power to run a real game that's in VR. That's why you feel like you can "never get a real game". But I've never played Far Point or whatever the name of that new Sony Shooter, which looked like it had potential.

I think we'll eventually see more and more VR, but it's gonna take time. Like I said, they've gotta figure out that VR Fatigue/Motion Sickness stuff, because that's rough and limits the playing base.

I work on tugboats out on the ocean, and I rarely get seasick. When I do, seasickness usually goes away as soon as things calm down or as soon as you reach the dock. With VR, it's not like that (at least for me). I end up feeling drained for hours, and sometimes nauseous for a little while after
Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 09/25/17 03:57 PM
That game with the asteroids is the only one that got me a little sick. I have not had a problem with any other game, and Ive spent some time plaything them.

I just see games coming out for it...mostly just add-ons with a board like COD and Battlefront.

I just think for the 400+ I spent on it, I should have at least more than 4 games to pick from.

There is talk of battlefront 2 being pay to win. I read they are not doing a season pass for it(good news). However, they will look to make money through micro transactions. Beta revealed the random crate system to get new items in the game. It was also revealed crates can be purchased with real money. What the real money crates will get vs ingame crates is unknown.

I don't like that model, either.

Havent watched it yet, but I did just pre-order battlefront, I said with the last one it was gong to be the last time star wars let me down with a game, but after watching the trailer for II, I drove to gamestop and bought it. smile

Battlefront II is definitely in my cross hairs. It looks fun. I'm not a fan of the model that Squires presented so, I'm holding off on any preorder.

Honestly, I've pretty much made up my mind that no game deserves a pre-order anymore.

You're right, and they usually go on sale in a month or two after they release.

I am the biggest Mass Effect fan there is, and after I played ME:A, that was when I decided that.
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 10/31/17 12:49 AM
I still haven't played ME. I've been looking on Craigslist on and off, but haven't seen it used there. Could hunt eBay for that now.

If you're lucky, it'll be on sale within a month. Last Battlefront released a month before episode 7 hit theaters. It went on sale for $30 the weekend of the theater release. Hopefully same thing will happen this time around.

True, but with pre orders you get the DLC included, all of them, which does save money on that in some cases.

No, definitely not "all of them" and what I've become to understand is buying the game on preorder, you get a small amount of the DLC. An extra attire/uniform set, a gun or two. You get some exlcuslive minor content depending where you buy it (ie, Walmart, GameStop and Best Buy I've seen have their own "exclusive if you buy it new from me, you get _____".)

DLC is beginning to get unreal. I think the retail price of $60, for example on a new PS4 game, should go down to $40 new if every company now is going to pack half the game/features/etc into buyable content/DLC.

Quite frankly, it pisses me off.
Posted By: oobernoober Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/01/17 06:09 PM
I'll have to go back and look, but I don't think pre-ordering gets you the real DLC. It gets you shaders, uniforms and other small stuff like that. The meat of the DLC comes later with add-ons to the game, and you end up paying for that either way (is my recollection).

it depends on the game. I know in the past COD pre orders w/ the deluxe version (usually 89 or 99) you get all the DLC and expansions. Typically that is the only game I go in on the expansion and DLC for. Most other games I play solo so I don't really need those. Ill let you know about battlefront.

Im pumped for COD this week!
Posted By: oobernoober Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/01/17 06:52 PM
So the deluxe version gets you the "real" dlc... which costs ~$20 more.

So you're still paying for it, is my point.

I was never a huge AC fan, but Black Flag and Freedom Cry are two of my favorite games. I can play over and over.

Black Flag was pretty sweet. I LOVED the addition of ship battle and the trade/exploration with your fleet.

Syndicate was awful.

I was waiting for you to tell me tongue

I almost bought it last night. Excited to see it back in ww2, but I haven't bought a CoD on release day since MW3. Figured I'd wait. Looking at reddit, does sound like there were some server issues.

What kind of setup are you using? If you are using an older router and your daughter is tech savvy, she might have set up port forwarding for her xbox.

I got sucked into watching a few more Battelfront II trailers and I just love Star Wars too much to not preorder this one. By the time this game gets boring to me, I'll be able to buy many others used for dirt cheap. Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Shadows of Motar and etc.

Can't wait to play as Darth Maul!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CHS, I am on ps4. jsus-85.

My thoughts on CoD so far. popped it in and started a multiplayer match. played for awhile and got the hang of the new setup to test it out. The went over the campaign. This is the first campaign so far that I have exclusively played since I have got it! Right from the start you are completely immersed. Probably the truest war game I have played. They really have outdone themselves with the campaign as far as I have played so far.

I am ready for this game. But I have read some things that concern me. A lot of people are complaining its a pay to win game. The only way you get the heroes and villains to play as is to pay for them.

I wish they had a VR experience for this game. More than just a single mission. I would love to pilot a Xwing fighter for a couple rounds.

Someone with a YouTube channel was donated $100 dollars to open loot boxes. He has a whole video of him doing it, it's incredibly long and I couldn't watch all of it but anyway, he said it wasn't ALL that much of an advantage in one of his gameplay videos. $100 dollars in loot boxes. It does come down to strategy and talent.

It does not have a match mode which sucks though. No 1v1 with your buds, at least not yet. I suppose they'll do what they did for the previous BF.

That's good to hear. I am way too excited for this game. I typically don't get this amped up for a game either. I really really hope they don't let me down. The last BF i thought could have been so much more. the graphics, sound, etc was so on point, but the gameplay and game itself needed major overhaul. And a campaign mode. I hope they get it right this time. If so, it will be my last Battlefront that i ever purchase.

Good news for battlefront 2, looks like DICe is listening.

Battlefront 2 players enraged over microtransactions

Quote:
Early players discovered that the number of credits accrued through gameplay was small; one user even calculated that players earn an average of 275 credits in a standard match of Galactic Assault, which apparently takes an average time of 11 minutes and 9 seconds to complete. By this calculation, it would take you about 40 hours to earn the 60,000 credits to purchase Darth Vader as a playable character. However--and this is the area where microtransactions come into play--you can avoid this progression system entirely and get the same character in Hero Crates. You can purchase these crates with Crystals, an in-game currency available only by paying real-world money.

EA’s response was met with a multitude of comments and downvotes from frustrated players. At over 362,000 downvotes, it’s currently the most hated comment in Reddit’s history.

DICe response:

Update, 11/13/2017, 1:52pm PST: A new blog post from DICE executive producer John Wasilczyk has appeared on the game's website. In light of the recent controversy on Reddit, he wrote that "it's clear that more changes were needed." The studio will reduce the cost of credits required to get the game's top heroes by 75%. Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker will now cost you 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia are available for 10,000 credits; and Iden Versio is now at 5,000 credits.

Reviews haven't been too good. I'm gonna hold off on this one. My best buddy is getting it and maybe I'll borrow his in January.

I've got two good games to go through before Black Friday, and that doesn't include Prey (which I own for X1).

My best buddy and I have been playing Destiny 2, but I still don't understand the story. Gameplay and graphics are good, and the levels seem to be huge. So it's fun just to get on the phone with him and kick some butt, but I have no interest in anything else with the game.

Instead, I'll be working on the new Uncharted Spin Off (short but fun, given on loan) and I'm gonna buy the new Horizon Until Dawn DLC.

I don't normally buy DLC, but Horizon Until Dawn was just a wonderful game. Best game of the year IMO. Certainly knocked Zelda out of the water. Zelda was decent, but Horizon is a whole new ball game. Better enemies, better story, better gameplay. Just better better better.

Witcher 3 is the only thing of this generation that compares IMO.

New games that excite me the most though would be Wolfenstein and Assassin's Creed. Love those games

See, I enjoyed Battlefront 1 for a week (multiplayer), then I had no interest.

But that's the thing. I've never got into multiplayer since playing ridiculous amounts of Counterstrike and Age Of Empires like 15+ years ago
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/15/17 04:05 AM
I just paid $60 for a year to play online, so I do enjoy the aspect of playing with others and etc. To me, it prolongs the game's worth and level of interest. Games like Socom and etc were absolute great because the multiplayer at the time was free, very fun and the games came with a fantastic single campaign too.

Nothing beats hearing about how your Mom by a seven year old kid or their kid cussing!!!!!!!!!! rofl

Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/15/17 02:08 PM
BattleFront Review -

I played mostly the campaign last night and a little bit multiplayer.

I was most let down with BF1 due to the lack of campaign. So I hit that first without question.

Pros -

The graphics are just superior to other games. I mean it might be one of the best games I have played graphic wise.

Sound - The sounds of blasters, Xwing fighters, ties, etc are spot on. They were in BF1 and don't miss a beat in BF2. The music is great, it creates true feel during gameplay.

Campaign - Just having it makes it a step above BF1. Start out as special forces tropper. I progressed through a couple levels, and was taking over flight of a tie fighter in a massive dog fight. The rebels had a captured walker that they turned, and I had to take that down with multiple shots of a rocket launcher. The campaign was very fun last night, and I look forward to continuing it.

Multiplayer - The MP is similar to BF1 but more immense. You can do strikes, arcade mode, etc. I only played fighter aspect, as I love dog fighting.

1st and 3rd - you can choose to play in 1st person and 3rd person. I like being able to go back and forth. When its close combat, I prefer 3rd, when its farther away you get a better zoom on 1st

Cons -

The controls are sluggish. I had to go in and up the sensitivity of aiming. You cant change the speed of the character though, so moving and jumping is sluggish.

Aiming is a little off to me - idk, in games like destiny and cod and other shooters, I am typically a crack shot at aiming. I find myself struggling to aim in this. Might have to do with controls, haven't pinpointed yet.

Complicated loot system and rewards. Its a little overwhelming with the perks, rewards, star cards, etc. Going to take time to get used to it and understand it all.

OVERALL - I think its a big upgrade to BF1. If you enjoyed BF1, everything is there you loved about it. If you were left with a sour taste in your mouth after BF1 (like I was) this is a great improvement with the campaign. There are definitely still some wrinkles that they need to iron out. But I happy with it. Its not perfect, but its far from a bad game. Personally, Id rather just be a jedi going through missions like a typical star wars game, but BF was never about that. I think that is where a lot negativity comes from. People have the wrong expectations. But again also, I feel I have to point out, the graphics. They really are top notch.

Hope that helps. Let me know when you guys play and your thoughts too, I am curious.
Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/15/17 02:14 PM
Man, between COD, Destiny, and now BF2, I have literally no time to play all three. I hate when the holidays come and all the best games come out within weeks of each other.

I'm not convinced. This is EA we're talking about. This backlash started hitting mainstream media today. Investors were cautioned about buying EA stock. So EA turns off the p2w aspect, people think they won, buy the game, anger goes away. Once EA gets enough sales and things have calmed down, their turn the p2w back on. EA won't care how angry people get at that point because they already bought the game.
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/18/17 02:34 PM
Not fighting or anything (sense a lot of people think when I'm debating, it's me being offensive) but they already said they'd bring the loot system back. There's no trickery. I highly, HIGHLY doubt, ea OR not, they'd bring the system back and cause the same problems and the same hatred. I mean, unless they didn't plan on making/selling a BF 3. Battefront 3 would be killed before it even started if they did that.

I think they'll bring the paid content (every game has it now it seems) but in a different fashion.

All JMO, of course.

The game itself is really, really fun. Boba's rocket barrage is a beast!

I rented it to play, but as soon as we walked in the door with it, my daughter ran upstairs and started playing it on her xbox.

Maybe I’ll get a chance tomorrow, Monday probably, lol.

FYI, I have only about 3 hours on MP. I have been strictly playing campaign. In the 3 hours of MP I have Bobba,Yoda, Han Solo, Darth Maul, and Kylo Ren unlocked.

Also, just an FYI for anyone interested. I just bought an Xbox One S. Walmart has a Black Friday Special. Xbox One S bundle that comes with Battlefront 2, Halo 1-5, and a game of your choice (Madden, Fifa, CoD). 249.99 for the bundle. Couldn't pass it up!!! Comes in tomorrow!
Posted By: Squires Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/26/17 04:54 PM
I bought BF 2 on Thursday, returned yesterday. Game has potential, but EA needs to fix it first. The entire system was designed with the P2W transactions in mind. The game isn't about skill, it's about who gets the better star cards from RNG loot boxes. Credits are awarded based on how long the match takes and everyone gets the same amount. The guy with 40 kills gets the same reward as the guy with 0 kills. This has led to people just AFK in matches. The lag and rubber banding has been terrible. Makes the game unplayable.

I'll buy the game again if EA fixes it.

EA does not have a good way to re-monitize BF2

I just bought Wolfenstein 2 and South Park: The stick of truth.

So my list is: The new uncharted game kinda expansion content, Prey, Wolfenstein 2, then South Park.

I'd also like to get Yakuza 0 and Assassin's Creed: Origins and I'd like to play the new LoTR game. Lots of video games right now.

My buddy says he wishes he never bought the new Star Wars.

It'll be a busy month in December with all these games plus two new books to read (the new Expanse and the new Brandon Sanderson)

I dunno what level I ended with. 50 something I think.

I think I came very close to accomplishing everything in Horizon.

Loved The Frozen Wilds especially because it gave me a reason to go back and continue playing (I don't play single player campaigns more than once except for rare occasions, like to prepare for a new Uncharted (or probably to prepare for the next Last Of Us)

Wonderful game though. Honestly, I think it's probably the best one since Witcher 3. I might have even liked it more than that.

The story was awesome. The gameplay was unique. Graphics were great. It was just refreshing. The game really surprised me. I figured, Guerrilla Games, Killzone, I'll pick it up later. Shoulda bought it as soon as the reviews came out. Second best game of the generation and best exclusive of the generation

I hope the next one takes some notes from Zelda. It's really awesome being able to climb absolutely everything in Breath of The Wild.

Yeah, that was pretty cool with Zelda. Sometimes annoying too though. Especially when you fall off the wall trying to get to some place in the middle of nowhere like that mission where you're in the desert fighting those ninja things.

On the other hand, if Zelda wants to be anywhere near as good as Horizon, they gotta take a ton of notes.

Zelda was unique. And that doesn't always make for better. Although I do wish Alloy had that parachute thing you have in Zelda so I could just run off a mountain and glide to places

I've got it on PS4. I don't think there's cross play though.

I only play it with my best buddy. It's taking forever, but we're doing a campaign.

Once again, I have no clue what I'm fighting for in Destiny. Just that my buddy and I have to go around kill robots, aliens, and some other things, and get the loot

yeah what's weird about destiny is after you beat the storyline theres really nothing to do but gear up for the next xpac (which comes out Dec 5). I hate that they have low level strike with matchmaking but not the ones that give you decent gear...too much of a hassle to find people to run them. Have to get online, post in a forum and hope the stars align. Sucks because Nessus Orbit and Leviathan look good. Best thing World of Warcraft ever did was introduce raid finder and expand it out to quests and dungeons. Makes it alot easier for a casual gamer.

Shoulda bought the new South Park as I believe you get a copy of Stick of Truth with it.

I haven't played the new one, but Stick of Truth was an AMAZING game. Awesome RPG elements, hilarious commentary, and good replayability.

It's not often that licensed video games are any good, but it's a great game.

Oof, didn't know that. But I paid only like 15$ for Stick of Truth. Guess I coulda gotten them both for 30$ with a Black Friday deal. Not the end of the world though

I play it on Xbox. I agree with everything you guys said, you really need a good group to play Destiny with... otherwise, it gets stale really quick. I have a great clan that I run with. We're idle right now, but things will pick up once the expansion comes out. That's the thing Destiny 2 did really well, the whole clans thing. Makes getting a group together much less of a PitA.

Nah, plus those games get discounted quickly. I would imagine FBW will be pretty cheap on Amazon once the new year arrives.

I have destiny for ps4. I must say I am down about it. Your level doesn't matter anymore, as all the bad guys are the same according to your level. Makes is pretty pointless to grind through the game looking for the best gear. Same in the crucible, there is no advantage being a level 305 to a level 100. All the gear is the same too, I got tired quickly of getting 25 pairs of the same gloves with the same light level. Once you beat the campaign, its pretty stale, I only need to login in once a week, play for about 2 hours, knock out the new milestones, level up. and don't have to play or do anything until the new milestones for the week come out. Even doing that and playing only 2 hours a week - I am bored with it.

FYI - Maybe you guys can help me. I just got an Xbox One S - why the heck does it take 6 hours to install a game????? PS4 takes me about 30-45 minutes tops. And why does each game take up so many GB? its crazy! The graphics are intense because its HDR, but I must say the PS4 is by far a superior system to me so far.

willit,

Yeah. D2 is definitely getting stale much faster than D1 did. They removed most of the stuff that I cared about and kept me coming back for from D1 (grinding for THAT gun w/ the perks, armsdays, grinding for the best gear sets). I really liked the changes they made when I was getting into the games, but there's no incentive to keep playing once you beat the campaign and run the raid a couple times.

In general, playing with friends makes Destiny tons better, regardless if you're just starting out or have done everything already.
Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/28/17 07:46 PM
It is. But the problem with that, my frieds are getting bored with it as well. Destiny has sooooo much potential and they just don't care to realize it. Seems to me bungie is just trying to get a billion dollars out the game, and dang the actual product. THey made mistakes with D1 when it came out, and corrected them over time. Then they released D2 with even more mistakes that D1 had a launch time. lol

I play mostly on TV, probably 75% but it's nice if my wife or son want the TV, or if I want to play somewhere that's not the living room, it takes 30 seconds to grab it and go. If you take the charger, it's easy to travel with though I've never done it.
Posted By: brownsfan2119 Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/29/17 01:05 PM
When I first got it I played mostly on TV (picked up a 2nd dock so I was able to play on TV in the basement and the living room). I would play handheld sometimes at night in bed. Maybe 70/30 TV to Handheld.

Later in the year we had our second child and my handheld time has increased to probably 80/20 Handheld to TV due to circumstance.

I prefer TV mode because I like the Pro controller and the standard home console use, however the handheld is fantastic and having that freedom to play a console game wherever/whenever you want, especially having a family, is great.

Can anyone give me a D to stop the run in Madden? I cant stop it online to save my life.

Does anyone else play Fortnite? The first time I saw my daughter play it I thought it was the dumbest game ever, but now I cant stop playing it.

Is this against the personnel or just in general? Are you using the predict a play beforehand? Stopping the run is a lot harder this game, but using the safe tackle and L2 has helped me a bit.

Just in general. Tried the 4-4, with the outside LB’s playing the flats, the nickel with the DB’s playing the flats. It just seems like the outside is always impossible to defend.

It's been quite awhile since I've contributed to this thread, and its strange because the older I get the more it feels like I have less time for video games and that type of enjoyment. So when I do have time to just let go and not worry about responsibility or something serious its a treat.

About a year ago I bought NBA 2K17 on the heels of the Cavs winning the championship and played with the cavaliers, had a great time with the game and liked it a lot. I've never been the biggest basketball person in the world but have enjoyed watching the Cavs over the years so I picked up the game and it was awesome. Fast forward to late in the 2017 year I am still playing the game and got frustrated for consistent play in the franchise mode and having to consistently adjust the sliders for something more realistic.

It was at that point I started looking at NBA Live 18 and caught up on YouTube reviews from people saying the game was good, that it was close or had overtaken 2K which is a feat itself. I got on the playstation store a few days before X-MAS and noticed the entire game was on sale for $9.99. That was an incredible deal so I pulled the trigger and purchased the game.

So far its been everything I've wanted and more, been one of the funnest gaming experiences I've ever had. Creating an NBA player in the "One" game mode, grooming him, playing each game off the bench, grinding, and eventually becoming a started has been just great. The game is refreshing as I've been playing just 2K for a while and normally wouldn't really upon EA producing anything of lasting memory in recent years but I think they've got it right with NBA Live 18, that they've listened to the players and taken into account people's opinions to make the game better. Anyone that is pure 2K and hasn't played NBA Live in a few years I would recommend them to give it a try for a fun time!

I made Pi-Carts for my nephews, niece, and even my dad for Christmas. They're all playing it. Was a cool gift and nice that I could make something for them instead of just buying something or just giving a gift card.

I start my new job on Tuesday, and so my cash flow will be much better. I think I am going to buy Horizon.

I have a small list of games that I still want to buy and Horizon is at the top right now.

I almost purchased Live last night. So funny I see your post today. I looked up videos of live and the thing that stood out to me was the graphics looked really bad compared to 2K. Your thoughts?

Try playing while controlling a safety would be my best advice. Madden doesn't realize that they should be secondary contain on running plays. I usually feint blitzes from the backfield and then bail out to the player's responsibility when I play.

J/C

I was playing 2K18 for the first time last night (or attempting to).

After 2 hours of the story mode, and only playing for about 10 mins of actual gameplay, I got bored.

I then switched to MyGM. I wanted to create a player and bring him in to build up, but alas, after an hour of trying to find out how to do that, I found a youtube video saying that 2K is not allowing create a players into MyGm. sighhhh.

So, its 11pm, I had been "playing" since 8pm, and FINALLY played my first game in MyGm.

At what point are these games getting too complicated? I love the graphics, I love the gameplay, I love the animations and motions. But when it takes you that long to get to the ACTUAL game, something is wrong. At this rate, NBA 2k87 will be out before I finish the first season.

If you play mycareer then you'll have to play online for the full experience. If you grind out for virtual currency then it'll take a long time to get to the 85 overall rank (the first max level). And if you take that 85 overall player to play in the regular season games then your player is just average. My 89 overall wing player has the skill level of Tobias Harris for example. Online though I can sink almost every 3 pointer. Also if you play online you get to avoid all the annoying cut scenes.

hmm, interesting. I thought online you just played against others and it didn't count to an online career.

im more old school, I typically don't like to play online w/ sports games. these dang kids are too good nowadays. then they talk smack like a sailor and I feel bad for cussing them out lol

Still playing BF2. I have my Boba Fett character a level 27 with Death From Above, Intense Rocket Barrage and Jet Fuel Efficiency all maxed out.

I hear we'll have some content coming soon, Dice needs to get this game on the positive because it has potential to still be great, even with the horrible way they started. EA, hopefully anyway, has learned their lesson.

I got a new laptop.

It contains roughly 3 times the power of an Xbox 1 X. This churns out Just Cause 3 on max settings at 60+ FPS.

I'm blown away. PC Gaming is fun. I can't wait to build my own machine.

I've always wanted to build my own and try to get into PC Gaming. I just don't have anywhere to put it, and gaming on my laptop sucks.

Do people hook PCs up to their TVs or buy fancy monitors, just like PC Gaming of old?

Considering that I do very little gaming nowadays with friends sitting next to me (Madden/Shooting Split Screen), a PC looks more and more desirable.

Especially since I could get Occulus Rift with it.

I just don't have anywhere to put a desk, monitor, computer chair, and monitor at my condo.

Plus I'd have to sell my wife on this one. Cause if I'm spending like 2000$ on stuff to get me into PC Gaming, she'll certainly say she gets to spend 2000$ on whatever she wants too
Posted By: RocketOptimist Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 01/16/18 03:11 AM
I spent around 1,000 on a prebuilt laptop system at BestBuy in Anchorage, Alaska.

It's cheaper to buy prebuilt systems these days; the whole bit-coin craze has driven up graphics card prices. The cards, in mass quantities, help mine the coins.

I would start with a RX 580 (8GB of VideoRAM) or 1060 GTX (6GB of VideoRAM) as a base level for a graphics card if you want to get wow'd.

Quote:

I'm sure most, if not all, systems feature a HDMI output. That's how I hook mine up to the TV when I want to play a game. You'll also need a HDMI port if you're looking to get into VR, too.

I like it because you can get the prettiest looking versions of multi-platform games. You can also get games that lend themselves better to PC play with keyboard and mouse.

There's a few central clients (Steam, Origin, and Uplay) run by software companies where you can download all the games digitally.

That was a consideration with my system. Most laptops won't come with enough USB ports for Oculus, but you can get enough hookups for the Vive. The vive has a better screen, but the Rift currently has the better controllers. Vive will soon have better controllers, a wireless headset, and still require less ports to hook stuff up to.

That's why I got a laptop with a lap cushion for the laptop.

Picked up an used copy of Assassins Creed Origins on eBay yesterday. Tons of positive reviews including a lot of gameplay and huge world map to explore.

As an AC fan, I'm excited. This has been the only AC game outside the second one that I haven't preordered, but I was getting wary of the AC series but people are digging on it, so.

Let us know what you think once you get going on it, I'm curious as to what people think. When it comes to AC games, it's hard to trust video reviews, because Ubisoft has so much influence with the money they use to advertise their games.

I have Black Flag in my backlog. Everyone seems to agree that it's one of the best. AC2 is probably my favorite. AC3 was ok, good story but really tedious and annoying at times.

I had a bunch of Amazon cards from the holidays, but I didn't use them yet. I just finished my first week at my new job, and I treated myself to Horizon and South Park FBW. Can't wait to dive into these. I have a nice little backlog built up.

My new rig is treating me well.

I've been playing a bit of Cities: Skylines, Just Cause 3 (everything all maxed out at 60FPS!), and building roller coasters using NoLimits 2 Coaster Simulation.

I was up till around 1 in the morning building this:

I'll know soon, it's already at the local post office for delivery! One good thing about rocking a 100 MB/s internet is I can download the first updates/patches and etc when you first throw in a game disc quickly lol.

Use to get a game, be so happy to play after work just to find out you have two hours of downloading stuff before you can play the game!

I agree. I'd like to know what you think. I plan on purchasing Origins in a couple months. I've just bought Nier: Automata and Nioh (two popular Japanese PS4 games), but after those I plan on diving into Wolfenstein, Middle Earth: Shadow of War, And Assassins Creed: Origins.

Oh, and now that Monster Hunter game looks kinda cool. Kinda wanna check it out. Not gonna pay like 60$ for it though while I have all these other games to play

Black Flag is by far the best AC game. Its actually one of my favorite games in a long time - and I am not even a big AC fan.

I had a great time with the most recent two.

Story-wise they were better IMO. Syndicate and Unity. Those games were fun. Industrial times London was badass. And Paris was a lot of fun too (although I hated the whole like time changing garbage)

I loved the pirate fighting in AC4, but the recent ones were lots of fun. I think I liked Syndicate more, but it's close

EDIT: The one thing I hate is the stupid back to present, youre in a simulation garbage. Don't bother. Just give us regular stories of the past. Soooo much better.

Does AC: Origins have that go back to the present day garbage?

So many people have this take, and I agree. I’d be fine if it were just short cut-scenes but at times it’s annoying and hard to follow.

How s is the overall gameplay for Syndicate. I may add that to my stack. The one great thing about AC games is that you don’t have to wait long for prices to come down.

I’m also super jacked for Far Cry 5. Preordered months ago. Looks like a lot of fun.

I'd buy a pirate game that expanded on the ship combat of Black Flag, and used the explorative elements of Breath of The Wild.

Syndicate is great. And it's cheap. Lots of fun. Two characters to play with (twins).

And Unity was great too if you haven't played it. That game's like 2 dollars on EBay with a download key if you have XboxOne

But yeah, the gameplay in syndicate is a lot of fun. There's gang fighting, and I feel like the combat system is superior. I definitely kicked a whole lot of butt in Syndicate. The weapons were cool too. WIth the guy, I'd use brass knuckles. With the girl, I used one of those knives that is cut down at hte middle with a bit of an angle. So it would be in the shape of a really wide v

It's like 10 dollars preowned on Ebay. Can't go wrong. But get Unity too (at least if you have xboxone). 2 dollars or so. Just play the main story. 2 bucks, why not

I picked up Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition. Local Walmart had a ton of games on clearance and I got it there for the wallet breaking price of a BUCK.

It plays a lot like God of War - not too bad. Especially for a buck.

Assassins Creed Origins is by far a fun game. It has a very Witcher 3 feel, which was great and still the same ol' AC feel as' well.

Many hours in and there's a TON to do and I haven't grasped it all fully yet. The map is huge and I haven't got to 1/2 of it yet.

Heck yeah, a buck!

I've jumped back into The Division. It's actually good, now!

Tons to do, even if you haven't picked up the DLC. They've done a ton of work on this game over the past couple years. It's pretty fun.

Can't say enough good things about Horizon Zero Dawn.. This game plays so freaking well.

I feel like they waited far too long for the needed revamp. It was released far too early than it should've been and people moved on from it. Years it seems after it's released, they do this when it's long forgotten and in the back of everyone's minds?

Oh yeah, great game! I really enjoyed that one.

...

More on AC since I have more playtime in. It's an Egypt setting. They brought back hunting (lots of different animals to hunt and get materials from), the combat is more challenging (a plus IMO), the content of this game is a large open world filled with a plethora of things, quest and etc to do outside of the "main" quest. The tombs aren't too hard to figure out if there's a puzzle, but so far I've explored a lot of them.

All in all, I wouldn't have been sad had I paid the full retail price for this game. I have no idea how they'll top this off with the next AC.

I cannot wait for Red Dead Redemption and Ace Combat to come out.

Ace is the only reason I have kept my PSVR this long. lol

No doubt. The only other thing I can say is that the work that they have put into the game has been paying off, though. A dev said recently that they're seeing a slow but steady uptick in # of people playing the game starting 2 updates ago.

Got my hands on an SNES classic over the weekend. Stopped by the store for something unrelated, decided to swing by the electronics section for the heck of it and there were 3 of them sitting on the shelf.

JC: I've been playing Nier: Automata on PS4 and I like it. Story is the weakest point of the game. It's not that the story is so bad, it's just sooo Japanese Kiddie. The drama in it is just juvenile.

But the gameplay is pretty awesome, it's unique, it's not Japanese RPG, just a juvenile story. That's my biggest issue with a lot of Japanese games. The story just gets lame. Not just the story but the dialog.

Certainly not as good as Horizon (best game as of late IMO), but fun to play and well made. I've got Nioh waiting in the wings. Hopefully it doesn't get stupid with kid drama and lame dialog that feels so damn nerdy

Horizon and Witcher 3 proved games with large maps can be polished and provide fluent gameplay. Two of my favorite games I've played there, no question.

AC is large, but it's not as polished as the above games. I know they said no more Witcher games, but I would pre-order Witcher 4 and drop any game I was playing to dive into it!

No more Witcher games? Where you getting that from. Just type in Witcher 4 to Google and you'll see that there's a better chance of a Witcher 4 than no Witcher 4.

Although, I think I read there won't be anymore Geralt. That's okay though. Maybe he and that witch in Black have a kid or something. That or a story with the girl playing a bigger role.

Witcher 3 and Horizon are my two favorite games of this generation, hands down. Not even close. I know folks like Zelda, but those two put Zelda and pretty much everything else, behind them like Usain Bolt

Nice, there's a lot more content than when I was reading and hearing about it. Last I heard a developer from CD Project Red I think said there was no plans for a fourth.

I dig it!

Outside of some of the cheesy voice acting, HZD is near perfect. The gameplay just feels amazing. The game is challenging too. I wish there was an autosave feature, but there are so many campires to save at, that it's not that big of a deal.

Yeah, it was a super polished game from the release. Gurellia Games I believe, whoever the development maker were, did fantastic.

Secret of Mana remake came out this week and is great IMO. It's getting rough reviews, but it is the original game with updated graphics. It has updated music too, but you can switch to original soundtrack as well. I may be biased because I loved the original growing up.

Right now I'm playing Nioh, the best game I've played in awhile (Probably since Horizon this summer),

Nioh on PS4 is great. Nier was fun and interesting gameplay but Nioh is much more complex, graphically is very good too. Very difficult though and unforgiving, I guess like a Dark Souls and Bloodborne game.

But the fighting styles are very complex, easy to switch what you're doing (hold your weapon high, middle, low: High sends powerful strikes over the top of the head, middle sends slashes not as powerful, low is quick, short strikes, but allows you to be on your toes ready to evade and be defensive)

I've been yelling at my television the past two days, but the game is a bit addictive and satisfying.

I'm definitely a fan. Highly recommended so far.

Oh, and there's a looting and you get different weapons and armor (much more variety than Bloodborne. I like that a lot. I've been using a Samuri Sword, a Spear, and these two little dueling swords). Samuri=Balanced, Spear=Keep foes at a distance, twin swords=extreme fast attack, get up close and make quick work of a slow enemy then escape. But, like Bloodborne, you have to evade. You can't just go in like a Tank-Type character in an RPG game and kick butt. It's not that easy, You have to attack, evade, recover. Constantly move, but follow what your enemy is doing (slash verses stab), and you have to keep track of your stamina bar because you run out of that and then you can't do anything while you recover.

It really is a great game folks. I feel like it ran below the radar because it's Japanese, but it's no kiddie-story Japanese Game. A bit of a dark story, closer to Bloodborne, no cheese dialog yet. It's awesome

Honestly, for anyone looking to buy a system and get in this generation (without shelling money on the PS Pro and the Xbox One X), the PS4 brings great value. I haven't switched to the Switch yet due to the lack of games. Besides Mario Odyssey, I can't see any that I'd have to play (Zeldaand Mario Kart were offered on the WiiU, and I own both).

But PS4, just the exclusives: Horizon, Nioh, Nier, Uncharted 4, Bloodborne. Those are all easy purchases. Five games, right off the bat, only on PS4. XboxOne has three exclusives: Halo, Gears of War, and Sunset Overdrive. And, honestly, I dunno if any of those are even better than Nier (the weakest of the PS4 bunch I mentioned).

Forza is supposed to be a good game, but there's too many controls and too technical for me. I'd rather bust out my WiiU and play Mario Kart any day of the week. Mario Kart is competitive but with simple controls. Anyone can pick up and play, unlike Forza (which I found confusing, difficult, and unenjoyable)

Xbox One S is a pretty sleek console and I like their controller more than the PS4 controller. It's small and easier to travel with than my PS4, but the value of a console is in the games more than the console itself. Although, I think now that I have a 4k HDR TV, maybe it has that special DVD player (which I haven't tried out)

Assassin's Creed Origins is incredibly large. I can tell you with time in it, there's a TON to do outside main quest (which has ship battles for all you Black Flag lovers.) Some follows:

War Elephants

Bosses

Crafting

Gladiators arenas

Hunting

Side missions

Treasure hunting

Tomb exploring

... and more. This game, to be blunt with it - rocks. It freaking rocks!!!!!!!!!!!

Good to hear. I am a BF fan. I have been going back an forth about AC origins. I dont have time right now to really get into it though. Between 2k18, COD, Destiny 2, my time is pretty much taken up.

My list of games this year are going to be :

Ace Combat VR
Madden
Red Dead Redemption 2
COD

these my for sure buys, not sure what else will come along that i will pick up.

My suggestion if you're going to dive into AC Origins is to have the open time and etc to devote to it. Enjoy your other games for the time being.

I finally got the whole map covered and it took me forever to accomplish that. Forever. There's a good story to follow too so yeah, definitely grab this game but when the plate is open you can divulge yourself into it.

After this I don't know what game I want to play. I feel like I still need to play that Mass Effect!

Mass Effect: Andromeda was wonderful. Fun new story with a bit of the Mass Effect Trilogy backstory. The game got a bad rep, but part of that is because it seems cool to rip on EA lately.

Honestly, I like Bioware's games. I enjoyed Mass Effect and I enjoyed Dragon Age: Origins. Not that they are the best games of the generation, but they're both very solid games. And I really enjoyed both of them, put in lots of hours, and loved the story

I'm playing Nioh now, which I like a lot. It's a lot like Bloodborne (and I'd assume Dark Souls). Very difficult, yet this is even more technical. But I like it a lot. I doubt it's everyone's cup of tea though.

In hindsight, the Andromeda criticism was a little harsh, but not by much. It's tough/impossible to follow up after ME3 and that trilogy.

That said, the story and characters weren't even in the same ballpark as previous games. I honestly could not care less about any of the characters in that game... except maybe for the human biotic lady. The villains were meh. There was nothing even close to a "Virmire" moment in that game. The revelation about the origins of the villains and the origins of those cat-people was so 'meh'. Most of the game I spent lamenting that there would be no more Shepherd.

The gameplay was fun, though. Being able to swap from biotic to soldier to any sort of hybrid was cool.

See, I liked the story. A group of humanity on their way to an entirely new Galaxy, and things just go wrong, and what they encounter is absolutely not what they expected at all.

I played as a female character too, which was different. Most games I'm always a guy character, but with the trailer EA/BioWare had, Sara Ryder just felt like the right choice.

But, to each their own. Not everyone is going to like the same thing.

My favorite Mass Effect was Mass Effect 1. Hands down. It was just so fresh. But after that, I'm not sure, they all just sort of fall in line. I guess I'd consider Andromeda a step back from 2 and 3, but not by that much at all. I played it through and was hooked.

But, like I said, to each their own

I said at the time that Andromeda was actually pretty good. The storyline wasn't as good as the first few ME's, but honestly what is? I'm playing Dragon Age Inquisition right now, and it honestly feels just like ME:A. New characters, new storyline, open world field with big areas to explore and such. For some reason everybody loved that one and hated ME:A. I guess DAI didn't have Youtubers bashing it before it even came out.

I'd say my favorite was ME2. That said, ME1 had an amazing storyline though and really introduced you to characters you'd like. It's hard not to get immersed into the story when you meet characters like Garrus, Wrex and Tali. Then you have parts of the story that make you say "Woah" like when you find out about Sovereign and parts that make you cheer like when Saren dies. I felt like I had watched a good movie after ME1.

But I liked ME2 better, probably because of the multiple ways you could end it. If you played everything perfectly, you could save your entire crew. Or if you played poorly, you could wipe everyone out. Not only was the story just as good as ME1, but the replay-ability of the game was through the roof.

Andromeda wasn't bad at all, but it did feel like they were trying to recycle some of the same story-lines from the first games. You're team-mates just weren't quite as interesting as the original series either. I still enjoyed playing the game quite a bit, but as soon as news came out that they weren't going to have a follow-up game or DLC, I just sort of lost interest in re-playing it.

See, I liked the story of Andromeda more. I liked Inquisition a lot, but i feel like it had a whole lot of haters as well. I think games sometimes are expected to live up to their predecessors, and when they don't, there's no grey area. It just "sucks". I don't look at things that way. I'm not sure if i liked the other two dragon age games more, but i can say, i liked all three of them. I liked Inquisition cause i could change weapons, in one dragon age you couldn't do that.

See. That's exactly why I liked Mass Effect 1. I loved the story. One of hte best stories in videogames ever. Very fun to follow. I didn't know in Mass Effect 2 there were different endings. I generally only play through games once (there's just too many games to play), especially one that takes that long. So obviously I must have done something right. Although, i think they made a remastered edition or something. So maybe I will play through them again someday. Hard to find time when just right now I wanna play Assassin's Creed Origins, the new Wolfenstein, Middle Earth: Shadow Of War, and Far Cry 5.

I don't usually have any interest in expansion content, but had they made it for Andromeda, I would ahve gotten it. Easy storyline. What happened to that missing Ark. And there was plenty of room to continue the story in the Andromeda Galaxy. It's too bad. Hopefully they come back to it at some point.

My only complaints with Andromeda are the one other alien creature (those reptile looking things were stupid) and the facial expressions of Ryder were creepy.

But, I'm sure Bioware will have something else coming out that I'll probably like. There's just so many games to play. My only thing is that I'm fascinated by Space Exploration. Probably why i liked it more than Inquisition.

Anyway, happy gaming!

I'm very close to the ending of Origins. I pretty much have all question marks and side quests beaten just the last (least I think last) story of the main quest. It's early 2018 anddddddddddddddddddd I know a lot of what seems "stellar" games are going to be dropping later this year - but as of now... this is clearly the best game I've played so far in 2018. It's going to take a lot to beat it out for me!

Also fellow gamers, BloodBorne is free for PS plus users! I downloaded it yesterday. So this might be the game I go onto next. I heard it was a headache and challenging, like Lords of the Fallen was!

I got an email the other day from Playstation Plus for NBA live 18. I was able to download it for 4.49. Still not 2K, but man they are making strides finally. It still has more of a video game feel, faster paced, easier to shoot/score etc. But not a bad game, have to say. I think next year I might just give it a look when time comes - as you can actually compete with your player without spending on VC.

Have you played the Mass Effect series? Pretty much the same type of game, but I feel like Mass Effect has the way better story-telling. I like Dragon Age, but I find myself skipping the lore more often than not.

Not the entire series, but I believe just ME2 and ME3. Both I loved. As I stated before, the newest ME gme Andromedia is still on my urgent to play list. Had Bloodborne not been free, I think my decision would be to play ME next.

I finished Assassins Creed Origins!!!!!!!!

I don't want to give full details of the game, because some of the aspects were a cool surprise to me, and I feel like after reading comments from AC fans here - it would be a cool surprise to them too so I won't ruin it.

As for the ending, I was disappointed in the bosses. They was so easy to defeat. Maybe I just got lucky IDK. The game was superb overall though. Very, very pleased...

Very difficult and unforgiving game. Loved it though (when I wasn't yelling at the television). Although I think the game I'm playing now, Nioh, while similar, is better.

But yeah, Bloodborne is very challenging. I was posting earlier praising Mass Effect: Andromeda, and I think I might have liked Bloodborne more. But, there's no sitting back, relaxing and playing Bloodborne. You have to be in tune at all time, or you're just going to keep dying.

This I'm very excited for. But have a bunch of games to play so I doubt I'll get to it till late summer or fall (unless it's on big sale). New Wolfenstein, Assassin's Creed: Origins, and Middle Earth: Shadow Of War.

But Far Cry 5 looks sweet. So I'm pumped about that. I like all the Far Cry games. Although, some are better than others. I really liked the one where you're like pre-historic man. It was different. I liked the scenery of Far Cry 4, but not the story so much. I liked the story of Far Cry 3. And I liked the concept of Far Cry: Primal and how refreshingly different it was verse the others

I never made it to Primal. I was wishy washy on it - as I like a good gun fight.

I started Bloodborne. It's definitely as challenging and etc as everyone claimed it to be. One of my buddies got on that loves that game and I summoned him and we destroyed some stuff. Cool because other people can use this "sinister" bell and invade your game session if you play online.

Very fun and if you like games that makes you frustrated, isn't a piece of cake and etc - grab this one.

*EDIT* - and the bosses are freaking legit. I haven't faced one boss where I haven't died at least once, and I'm the type of gamer that turns a game on it's hardest difficulty setting when starting. I like being challenged and have some trickyness to it.

I'm pumped for this. I'm hoping they don't pull a Destiny and do a 180 from all the improvements they've made to the game.

YES!

Far Cry games are awesome. I didn't play Primal but I may pick it up once I don't have such a giant backlog of games...

I am still grinding on Horizon Zero Dawn. What an amazing game. Outside of some of the cheesy voice acting, and not having an auto-save mode, this game is flawless.

I do have FC5 preordered, and funny enough that week I am off and paid for good friday which is a few days after the release. Pretty awesome.
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 03/15/18 01:31 AM
There hasn't been ANYONE who I know played/completed Horizon that hasn't said they liked it/thought the game was great. And yes, the game was pretty polished indeed. I didn't grab any of the DLC, but I got most everything else I believe. I didn't get that suite at the end because I didn't want to go hunting for the remaining needed electric things.
Posted By: Bull_Dawg Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 03/15/18 02:33 AM
I thought the beginning of Horizon was pretty slow. Need to get back into it, but haven't had much time to commit to gaming lately.

It is, but once it gets rolling it's the best.

I loved that game. Second favorite of the current generation. Possibly first (over Witcher 3).

And I've played/beaten a lot of games, including Zelda

Yeah as said, it gets rolling big time. I would highly recommend not giving on it, just when you get more time, get all back on that. I'm almost 90% sure you won't regret.

Yup, what's better than letting loose a bunch of arrows against a giant t-rex looking monster.

Horizon is probably the only game I've ever bought the expansion for in recent times (I bought Age of Empires: Rise Of Rome whenever that came out a long long time ago)

The new Tomb Raider game is dropping next month I just saw. Quite frankly, these are extremely fun games, but not in the realm of worthy of $60 bucks. These short play campaigns are what TR is known for now. Very fun, very short...

I'll wait but will definitely play it at some point in time.

Agreed. Even with the sandbox, open world, do different missions type of stuff, and you can beat the whole thing, the replay value is too low.

Honestly, there aren't many games I play right away. If you stagger yourself and follow about 6 months behind, you can get yourself good deals on new games (I don't buy many used games because I don't like how the developer gets no piece of the action)

EDIT: This is one of my issues with Nintendo though. Their games take forever to fall in price and they cost a bunch of money used. I understand why they do it, but when SONY & Microsoft and Third Parties drop the cost of their games, but Nintendo doesn't, I generally will shy away from Nintendo.

Still see no reason to buy a Switch except for Mario Odyssey (Cause I have a WiiU). Zelda, MarioKart, Smash Bros. I own all on WiiU. What's the point? Splatoon 1 was certainly nothing to write home about either

EA announced the new progression system in battlefront 2 today. Essentially:
- You get skill points for as class by playing that class. Skill points will be used to upgrade star cards
- No more star cards or any kind game improving items will come from loot crates
- loot crates can be bought with ingame credits and will contain only cosmetics
- cash shop is coming back, will contain only cosmetic items and you buy those items directly (loot crates cannot be bought with real money)
-all heroes will be unlocked

The lack of sales from this game must've punched EA in the gut to do this. After the outrage in November, I expected EA to cut their losses and abandon the game.

Disney has already reached out to Bioware and other companies. I think with the failure that was Battlefront (I have it and think it's fun... wouldn't ever have dropped more money into it though), EA will lose their license to it or whatever. There was already a petition with over 100k sigs wanting EA to go away.

But yeah, it is ncie to see EA just didn't abandon the game. There was awhile there where the devs/etc weren't responding or anything and that was the jist... they cut their losses and moved on. Hopefully grubby and money hungry EA will respect the gamers instead of their profits more next time. The loot crate system brought a TON of negativity to them.

Isn't Bioware owned by EA? Yes they are.

But it doesn't surprise me that Disney would look for other companies to produce their games.

The issue is, there's only so many publishers big enough to market these games correctly. I don't think they have as many options as they think unless they want to take more of a role in the marketing.

That's funny, because when I was playing Horizon for the first time, it reminds me of Witcher 3. They aren't the same game, but the quality of each mission, including side ones. There are too many games these days that just throw in ton of fetch quests, which is lazy, and makes the game seem like a chore.

I'm hours into Horizon, and I have yet to feel like they slacked on anything. The Witcher 3, which I haven't finished, gives you the EXACT same feel. Like the folks who made the game, really gave a crap about the people who play it.

Good to hear. I think part of the problem was EA had exclusivity for star wars, so they had no competition. Thats always bad for the consumer. It would be great to see more star wars games than just FPS. Who wouldn't love a star wars version of the witcher/fallout/elder scrolls?

Exactly. The Witcher 3 side quests are so good that I actually end up abandoning the main quest most of the time. It's definitely one of the best games ever. If Horizon is anywhere close I'll have to look into it soon

Battlefront II players, the big 2.0 patch released. This is how the game should have been from the beginning and it probably wouldn't have tanked so much in the cloud of negativity. I'm totally cool with microtransactions on the sole bases of cosmetics. I support that 100% actually.

Anyway, here's the official patch notes:

Nice to see my FAVORITE bounty hunter A. not get nerfed again and B. health increase! I love Boba Fett!

I enjoyed the campaign - multiplayer not so much.

I really would like to see a 3rd person SW game focused on jedi etc. I believe there was one years ago on xbox maybe when 1,2,3 were released. I forget which one, but I loved it. You played as obi wan and qui gon.

You Mean, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

I remember the game was kinda fun, but there wasn't much to it. Didn't take too long to beat, and once you did, no interest in playing it again. It was essentially a rental (that i essentially rented)

That was it!!

I enjoyed it. That was back in the day when games were meant to be games, not theatrical releases. I don't need Hours upon hours of story. Plug and play baby. lol

edit to add : going down memory lane, I really loved Die Hard : Trilogy for PS1.

I dunno. They made that famous Knights Of The Old Republic, which was sort of an RPG.

But a real open world RPG Star Wars would be wonderful. Something like a Mass Effect, Fallout, or even Skyrim (depending on how you do it)
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 03/24/18 04:20 PM
Yeah Visceral was making one, then EA canned it. I'd be all for an open world SW game.

I played The Force Unleashed too. Reminds me exactly or the recent Tomb Raider games. Extremely fun, extremely short.
Posted By: PeteyDangerous Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 03/24/18 05:12 PM
Except Tomb Raider was still open world with the sandbox select your mission style.

Force Unleashed wasn't that. It was a linear game

FYI, I just bought Titanfall 2 for like 6 dollars on PSN Store. I think you have to have PS Plus though. It's like 11 dollars with disc on amazon (but I bought a month of PS Plus to play Destiny 2 with a buddy of mine)

Just wondering: Anyone on here play the game Overcooked? My buddy and I had a real tough time the other day finding games (other than sports games) that you could sit on the couch to play together. We were looking for 3rd person or 1st person shooter. Ended up settling on Halo 4, backwards compatible to XboxOne. Had a great time.

But I kept on reading up on this Overcooked. Does anyone own this one? I was thinking for my best buddy and i and my wife/his girlfriend as a four person game that isn't too technical cause the WAGs don't game that much so they're not that coordinated with the controllers

You want to play fortnite if you're looking for an interactive 3rd person shooter. The game is free on playstation and Xbox. It's a king of the hill style game, where the winner(s) is the last one alive, so there are no side missions or objectives. Although if you buy their game pass, they give you 10 objectives every week, but they do not affect the game in anyway. Also, all micro transactions are purely cosmetic, so there is no pay to win.

I've heard of this and might check it out. Like BattleRoyale/Hunger Games or something?

But I doubt it's something I can sit on the couch next to my buddy and play

Yep it's a basic battle Royale game. You skydive into the map with no weapons and have to find guns (which is very easy). The twist is that you can break down houses, trees and other things to gather resources and build structures with them. It's not a game that can be played by two people on the same platform, but I'm up all night playing it with my roommates.

I have tried to play this multiple times, I gotta say, im not really a fan.

Too much going on with it - plays like a mobile game imo and is complicated with the amount of different things to keep track off.

Anyone see this "a way out"

Its a co op game, where you can play sitting on the couch together or onine with a friend. Its truly co-op meaning you have to have the friend I think to play. Whats really cool is if you buy it, your friend gets a copy of the game for free to play.

I watched about it on Xbox live ad. Its really interesting. anyone play it yet? It just came out the other day.

Yeah, I'm kind of interested.

I started playing that game, Fortnite: Batte Royale. Pretty cool. Something to do and you don't need PS Plus.

Games are fast and there's plenty of strategy. It's very interesting (after you die) seeing how other people play

IGN gave it an 8.9, Gamespot says potential score of 90, can't find a score from Kokatu but here's a review from them https://kotaku.com/far-cry-5-the-kotaku-review-1824076892 . Metacritic has 81.

I'm excited about it. But i'll wait to get it on sale for around 30$. I got too many games to play. Wolfenstein, Shadow of War: Middle Earth, Assassin's Creed: Origins, and I just bought Titanfall 2 for like 6 dollars.

And I still have to beat this female vampire thing in Nioh which i took a break from because she was too hard

titalfall for 6 bucks is a steal. its not gonna blow your doors off, buts a very entertaining game and concept. The bot battles are fun and fast paced. I enjoyed it, haven't played in awhile, I might have to slip it in. I got it black Friday for 12 bucks I think, I thought that was a good deal lol. 6, a steal.

FYI PS4 has Twisted Metal Black for 9.99 download to play. I just downloaded that last night, man the MEMORIES!!!! Still wish the first 2 would come out to play though, those were my favorites.

I finally sat down and played last night with the buddy that convinced me to get it. We played for a couple hours and pretty much laughed the whole time. It's a really fun and funny game. That said, it's very shallow. We could already tell it's going to get boring pretty quick. It'll be a good game for jumping into it for an hour or so with friends for some laughs.

The best thing about FC games is that they drop in price quickly.

I pre-ordered mine because I was dying to play it, and got the immediate discount with Amazon. I also had a gift card to I ended up paying like 20 bucks for the game. I usually don't buy release. I wait for price drops or GOTY edition type releases.

Seems like some of the media outlets had some unfavorable reviews, but the actual gamers enjoy the game. FC games are what they are, and if you're looking for some ultra deep Skyrime type game, you'll be disappointed. I like it for it's crazy storylines, and fun gameplay. They don't ever take themselves seriously either.

The game is still sitting sealed on my coffee table. I put in 11-12 hour days all week, and am also still deep into Horizon.

Dropping in price seems to be the case with most US games. Some of the Japanese games (Nier Automata and Nioh) don't drop in price much.

And Nintendo games take forever to drop in price. One of the reasons I still haven't bought the Switch. (Game's 50$ still and it's the only one I care to buy on the system, considering I already own WiiU and have beaten Zelda and played the heck out of Mario Kart 8)

But I'm defintiely looking forward to when I play FC5. They are fun games. Although don't compete with the likes of Horizon.

Right now I'm playing Assassin's Creed: Origins, which I really like. But it already got stupid. They did that present day nonsense where you are like in a virtual simulation of the past.

I don't get it. What's the point of doing this? The story works just fine, no other games does this kind of garbage. I didn't buy Assassin's Creed: Origins to play in the present day. I bought it because the setting was ancienet egypt.

I figured Ubisoft figured this one out with Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (another good one), but apparently they didn't. No one cares about this virtual reality company (Abicus?) and the present templars vs assassin's stuff. Drives me freakin nuts

I just pre-ordered the new God of War. I thought it was releasing later this year, but nope it's this month!

These games have always been great.

These God of War gameplay videos out now are getting me super, super pumped. I think I'm going to love the axe instead of the chained blades. It's cool because I signed up for the Amazon Prime trial without this in mind, and here they give you a discount on new games. So I got that, and from seems to be release day delivered to my house. The trial expired the day after so just in time!

Going rock that game out on that weekend.

Far Cry 5 is pretty good. I have only about an hour into it, but its true to its former games in gameplay style.

The graphics and open world are stunning.

Not that anyone besides me cares, but God of War drops today. UPS has it out for delivery. Love ya Amazon.

Game reviews are insanely positive. Playstation for the win!

GoW is utterly and literally fantastic. Played it hardcore yesterday morning to early evening and yes, impressive.

What's it like. Like Bloodborne/Nioh (skilled action), an Action RPG like Skyrim or Horizon?
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 04/24/18 03:12 AM
Like Horizon. Your boy is usually always with you. Puzzles and things you have to think through. Combat is great, many modifications, many enemies and etc. The story that has been unfolding thus far is super.

Being blunt, this might be game of year for 2018. Proud Playstation user lol...

Rodger that. Good news. While I own both Playstation and Xbox, I'd say that Playstation is absolutely the system to buy if you're going to only buy one. The exclusives blow Microsoft out of the water. That and the OS of the system

I own them both, and other than the HDR compatibility and 4K player, PS4 is the more superior system.

See, I own a 4K TV that's supposed to be HDR.

I haven't watched a 4K Movie yet (other than screwing around on Netflix) and tried HDR on my xboxone and I think it didn't seem to register or something.

I'm gonna have to figure that out.

Either way, hasn't effected me yet. I'll take Uncharted, God Of War, Horizon, Bloodborne, Nioh, Nier: Automata and whatever else I forgot to mention over Gears Of War, Halo, Sunset Overdrive and 4K HDR

did you get the new HDMI cable? They have different HDMI cables for 4K, its not yout typical HDMI its called hccpp or something like that .

HDMI 2.2 HDCP

I have a cable I spent 79.99 on. I tried to hook up the old cable and then this one to see the difference, man im gonna tell you. All the difference in the world.

Interesting. I dunno if my TV has it. I got a TCL 55 Inch. I like it a lot but it was pretty discounted. It's supposed to work with Xbox One X and Xbox One S though.

55 Inch TV, 400$. It was a purchase I could convince my wife into, so that was an easy one.

Sure thing. The cords were explained to me that it is setup that if you do not have the HDCP it will not transmit in 4k. So you may have a 4K tv, but your not getting 4k if what you are watching is not either streamed directly from the tv, or hooked up to that cord.

I have a samsung 65in 8500 series (curved screen). It was more than i wanted to spend and my wife was furious, but the second i hooked it up, put a 4K movie on (Marvels Avengers) my wife said word for word "ok, im not mad anymore". And she could care less about a TV. Its worth every penny. (best buy also does 0% financing for 24 months as well smile )

The arcade mode is fun, though.

10/26/18

I know rockstar is infamous for pushing dates back but I can’t see them pushing it further back with the holiday season right on the doorstep. Oct 26 is a great spot.

Not to mention they have already pushed it back once.

Might have to give it a try this weekend. Semester is winding down and all my projects are finally done. Finals actually next week, but they should be a breeze compared to all the group projects.

Haven't messed with it at all, so hopefully the challenges don't require the other person to have skill.

I'm XBoneCroMagnon on Live.

Beat God of War finally and actually just platinumed it! What a great and well put together game. Kudos to all involved, I set it on the hardest difficulty I could and 110% enjoyed it.

Beating all the Valkryes was very hard and then the queen... I had to retry and retry several times before I got her. Neifheim was a hard place too, and probably my least favorite with the favor of opening the three realm tears there and etc.

I had a down weekend so I also finished the last cartel area in Wildlands and got the second ending, which was way better. Dang there was a lot of content in Wildlands, and I still have the non cartel areas to clear but all else is 100% done.

Hey man, do I need to be online to play Wildlands?

I've thought about buying this game because i'm seeing it new for like 25$ and such.

Looks interesting, but half the time I'm away so I prefer games that I don't have to be online to play
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 05/21/18 02:26 PM
No, you can play the whole game solo if you so choose. The community was still pretty high so finding a CO op mission, if you wanted, is still possible.

Man red dead is so good. I strongly recommend a replay if you still have it. If you do but don’t play your PS3 any more because you’ve got the 4, it will take a while to get used to the controls. I was playing horizon before I decided to put RDR in, and it took a while. Everything seemed outdated at first but once you adjust it’s just so damn good.

Never played it myself but know it's reputation is positive. Can you play RD II without RDR?

I've been pondering my next PS4 game. The reviews for Mass Effect continue to make me put it on the backburner but here's my list and in no order:

Nioh
Shadow of Colossus
Evil Within II

RD2 isn't out until next year... I'm assuming you mean Red Dead Revolver that came out in 2004?

Nah, I haven't played it. I heard it's not really that great, and the stories and characters are different.

Really sucks that the game hasn't been ported to ps4, maybe there will be some sort of release when RD2 comes out?

Either way, if you have a ps3, go play RDR, you'll enjoy the hell out of it. Typical Rockstar game, well written, fun gameplay, great voice acting.

No I was referring to the upcoming one (sorry should've spelled it out, Red Dead Repdemption 2) and Red Dead Redemption (2010). I'm assuming there's storyline in Red Dead Redemption that you'll need to play the new one when it drops.

Read Dead Revolver looks really old still for a remastered game, I never had any intentions of playing it. I no longer have a PS3 to play the other one.

regardless of my personal opinions on religion I do see the great deeds carried out in its name, as well as see the value that it gives the vast majority of its followers.

I was just trying to bring some levity to the thread (maybe in poor taste), and if offended you I do apologize. I respect many of your opinions and insights on a number of topics. Being a dink was not my original intent.

I find that some games that should be a movie (but are a game) really don't reach a high level as either. Kind of like that one that came out on XboxOne that Microsoft/The Alan Wake team produced.

I'm staying away from the Detroit Game i think.

I'm more excited about GoW4

God of War was fantastic. One of few games I liked so much, I went and spent the extra time in platinum it.

I decided to go with Evil Within 2. I thought the first was okay and thus far, it reminds me a lot of that. About to fire it up again here shortly. I even went to Gamestop for it because they had an used copy for about as cheap as anywhere.

Ah, got it. Sounds like you may want to play RDR first. While John Marston is not the game's protagonist, he is a character in the game, so there may be some overlapping storylines.

I couldn't beat Evil Within (1). I'm not sure why, I think it was just frustratingly difficult (i'm always low on ammo it seems like), and it stopped being fun. It's not like Nioh or Bloodborne where I put hours in beating the hard parts, I just didn't have much motivation to continue

Yeah, I keep it on it's normal difficulty but it's your typical survivor game and you have to use your resources carefully in addition to constant crafting/gathering of resources. Evil Within 2 picks up from the first one so, probably nothing I'd recommend to you

Rumors are picking up now on Bloodborne II. I can tell you right here right now, I'll preorder likely if they make it. I can't believe I waited for Bloodborne to become free for PS + users before playing - such a great game.

Bloodborne was wonderful. I dunno if i'd pre-order Bloodborne 2 though. I imagine i'd play at some point. Bloodborne was so hard though.

I guess i have to prepare myself for it with a large timeslot. The same way i should have with Nioh. I'm stuck on a boss halfway through Nioh that's just so hard. And it takes about 20-30 minutes to prepare just to fine the boss (by getting enough health potions, etc.). So I could easily play for 6 hours, die 18 times, and still be stuck. Just infuriating. With those types of games, skill is much more important than grinding.

I'm pretty good at videogames, but the attack, evade/counter, attack is just difficult (i guess you'd call it the Souls style).

But if you like Bloodborne, try Nioh. I put a lot of time into it so far, and i had a blast until i faced this crazy chick. I can level up all i want and it won't matter until i get the technique, timing, and skill down to beat her (or if i get my bestfriend, who's better at videogames than me, to do it)

Yeah I ran Nioh by my friend because if he got it, I'd get it so we could summon one another but he's in the Dark Souls Remastered phase right now.

And the whole finding a strategy to attack and face a high level boss sounds like the Queen Valkyre in GoW once you get around to playing that. Her attack moves is an array of all other eight or so Valkrye special attacks and she's incredibly hard. I played her on Give me a Challenge and had to play her alone over a span of three days before I finally got her. There's this one dude on YouTube that played her on God Mode (the hardest difficulty) and didn't take a SINGLE bit of damage the whole fight. Gosh, when I FINALLY beat her - I had used my resurrection stone and my health was in the red before the final blow to defeat her.

The pride you get as a gamer when you face and defeat a boss like that though is niceeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Yeah, that's what I meant, in the fall.

I think I go by football calendar where the new year starts in September, lol.

I finally finished RDR last night. Top 5 game all time for me.

Spoiler alert below.

It was so satisfying to shoot Edgar Ross. I didn't murder any of his family but it was a great way to end the game putting about 5 bullets into him on his little fishing trip.

I seriously cannot wait for RDR2. I bought Undead Nightmare, but I may hold off on that until like the month before RDR2 is released, as a warm up to the game.

I think I will go back to Horizon now. I'm about halfway through that one.

Few notes from Bethesda E3 presentation.

Elder scrolls 6 is happening. No additional info, just that it is happening.

Starfield new IP being developed for next gen consoles

Fallout 76 - next fallout game, release date November 14. Will be single and multiplayer.

Battlefront II getting General Grevious, Count Dooku, Anakin Skywalker and finally... Obi Wan!

Anthem looks awesome yet EA makes me soooo incredibly hesitant.

The Division 2 in Washington DC? Heck yeah. Crossbow? Heck yeah... but I remember the last E3 gameplay and it looked a lot different from the game we got on launch. Hopefully they did in fact improve the Snow Drop engine.

These are the highlights I got from the bit of E3 I've caught.

J/C

I ordered Star Trek on for PSVR. graphics are not exactly what I would call up to date, but you def feel like your on the bridge, and its pretty realistic (well, close to the show) when it comes to commanding the ship. I played about an hour - not that bad.

First time I hooked up my VR up in months. They have this thing now called Next VR, where you can watch clips of all kinds of sports. They had the finals.....man. Insane to watch. I thought Lebron was trying to alley to me during game 3 self alley.

Started Far Cry 5 (finally)

Fun game. Storyline is bonkers of course, but something about the shooting seems off. It's not enough to disappoint me, but it just doesn't have the feel that the previous games had.

I've already flown a plane and a helicopter too. The map is awesome. I love the terrain and atmosphere. Montana was a great idea for a game, and it covers a part of this country that hasn't really been used before for video games.

Also been playing FIFA 18 with the new WC update. Props to EA for not trying to scam people out of 60 bucks for a standalone World Cup game, although you don't get the qualifying pre tournament stuff, which I always found a lot of fun in previous WC games.

The Assassin Creed Odyssey looks cool at E3.

I just traded in FarCry 5. I loved the graphics, but it was just off to me, like you said.

I got Farpoint for VR, and The Show. I played the show for a little last night, I like last years a little better so far, but it is by far the superior MLB game.

I've been playing Sea of Thieves as my general time-killer, and just pre-ordered Insurgency: Sandstorm.

SoT is fun with a small group of friends.
If Sandstorm is even half as fun as the original Insurgency, it will be an instant hit. Very much looking forward to that one!

I'm actually loving FC5 so far, although like I said, the shooting is a little more realistic. It's tough to get anyone from a decent enough distance...

Someone also hooked me up with a free copy of FIFA 18. Awesome game. I just can't stand the way transfers are done. I don't really want or need cut scenes when trying to transfer.

For anyone interested, I tried Monster Hunter World and the game was very disappointing. Not sure where the reviews are.

So, instead I popped in Elder Scrolls: Oblivion which I grabbed randomly at Best Buy around the same time, and I'm enjoying it. Makes me think I'll play Skyrim: Remastered GOTY next. I've played Skyrim already, but 4 years later, I bet I could get right back into it. Maybe Fall Out 4 after that, lol

It's been hit or miss with that game it seems. I've held back on it.

...

What little gaming I've done is some Battlefront II online. EA and company really screwed up the awesome potential and pretty much abandoned this game. I truly knew better than paying full retail price but I did it anyway. Hopefully the clone wars content when it finally drops helps.

Yeah, let me know how you like it. I was pleasantly surprised. I think a lot of Youtube "reviewers" trashed the hell out of the game for the heck of it, and everyone just sort of jumped on the bandwagon. It's not as good as ME1 and ME2, but those were some top notch games too.
Posted By: Dawg_LB Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 08/08/18 04:43 PM
I like Mass Effect, not sure why the reviews are generally negative. I think it's a step down from the others, yes, but it's not as bad as the reviews make it seem.

Been playing a little H1Z1 as well. Free to play games are the best lol.

Finished Far Cry 5. Kinda meh about the ending, but overall a fun game in a series that keeps getting a little bit better each time around.

Started AC: Black Flag. Pretty fun so far.

My backlog is really shrinking down. I think all I have left is GTA V, Bioshock Collection, South Park FTW, Dying Light, and I'm about a quarter of the way through the Witcher 3. All awesome titles that I'm excited to get to play.

Ac: Black Flag is by the far the best in the series. And I mean BY FAR.

If you have GTAV and plan on getting RDR2 you can unlock this stone hatchet in RDR2 by running a few missions for Maude in GTAO. You also get $250K. I did it earlier this week, pretty quick.

I'm about an hour and a half in the game so far and it's been awesome.

Minimal current-day cut scene stuff. I don't hate that angle to game/story, but I just don't want to be overrun with it the whole time. The focus of the game should be on whatever period of history the game is supposed to be.

I've also found that AC games in general are a lot more enjoyable when you don't aim for 100% completion. At least 30-40% of their games are fetch quests, and not worth anyone's time. Stick to the story, and fetch things when you need money or resources, and it's just a better experience.

I play a lot of VideoGames. I've played most of the AC games too.

I liked AC4. Not as much as AC: Origins (which i loved), but Black Flag was a good game.

And the whole Captain your own Pirate Ship thing is just ridiculously cool. Start doing that, and you'll see yourself spending hours upgrading your ship and plundering the Spanish (and British) Ships.

It was definitely something new.

Honestly, i've enjoyed all the latest Assassin's Creed Games. Not all match AC:4. But besides 3, the series has been pretty good

I think 2 is still my favorite.

3 was really good, but there was almost too much to do in the game. The storyline was awesome though, I'm a sucker for Revolutionary War stuff.

I have not played any of these new ones, but I have heard some decent stuff about this latest one in Egypt.

Picked up the new South Park game back in January, it was on sale, and it came with Stick of Truth as a free digital download.

I kinda felt like jumping into it, so the other day, I opened the game, and the ticket for Stick of Truth was expired.

Decided to try it anyway, and it actually worked, lol.

So I'm currently rotating Black Flag, South Park, Fifa, and College Football.

Stick of Truth is so amazing! A really well done True RPG (not the biggest fan of turn based, but for whatever reason this just works great)

Presentation is A+.

I hear FBW is not as good as SOT, but I seriously can't wait try it

I sort of faded out of the Mass Effect game. Just didn't hook me. What I've been playing is Battlefront II (General Grevious is coming next month, 50,000 credits needed) so been saving up for him and etc and I've been playing H1Z1 a little.

H1Z1 is like Fortnite, free, but without the whole "building" aspect like Fortnite has which I don't like. Survival/battle royale type game.

Ive looked everywhere on the Xbox store, is it on Xbox? Watched a few videos on youtube, it looks better than PubG, which sucked in my opinion.

I think H1Z1 may just be a PS4 thing for the time being.

Target employee made my day. Stopped by target for something unrelated to video games. Swung by electronics section for the heck of it. They had SNES classic in stock. I already had one, but my cousin was still looking for one. I asked the clerk to get one for me, she asked if I wanted the NES or SNES. This caught me by surprise as I only saw SNES on the shelf and was still looking for an NES for myself. She said they had some NES in the back. I walked out with one of each.

5 of the games have been confirmed so far...

Final Fantasy 7
Jumping Flash!
R4: Ridge Racer Type-4
Tekken 3
Wild Arms

My guess is, you'll definitely also see...

Metal Gear Solid
Twisted Metal
Crash Bandicoot
Tomb Raider
Tekken
Oddworld
Silent Hill
Wipeout
Cool Boarders

I would love to see Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but I just wonder how the rights work for the Castlevania series...

Same goes with Tony Hawk, especially with the amount of music on those games.

Would love the old GTA games, but I doubt we'll see any of those. GTA, GTA 2, and GTA 1969 were all hilariously fun games.
Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 09/24/18 01:27 PM
If it has Twisted Metal, I will be down. Tekken 3 was my stuff too, I was unbeatable back in the day.

Cool Borders will bring back some memories.

Ohhhh yeah, I use to rock Twisted Metal in the day. Great game, so was the second.

Anyone have any thoughts on RDR2 yet? I have it, and got it all loaded up on the ps4. I just haven't had time to start it yet. Hopefully tomorrow before the Browns game, I can get up early and check it out...

I got a copy of Madden from my cousin on Monday. Only have played a game so far.

Finished Stick of Truth last week, awesome game. I will probably play FBW at some point.

damn i saw that metacritic gave it a 97!
Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 10/29/18 02:45 PM
Depends on your take of what a game should be.....

let me explain the cons first, as they are shorter than the pros absolutely:

Controls to me a little sluggish, imo. And I hate having to tap A to sprint over and over and over and over (I bought for xbox).

I think once you are playing, its an amazing and a terrific game. The problem I am seeing is that you are never playing. The open world is huge, too huge to be traveling on Horseback. Its takes you a good 3-4 minutes to get to one mission to the other. I have about 5 hours in so far, I would bet that honestly 4 hours of that is just riding on the horse from place to another.

The game starts off slow as well - you are in a blizzard in the mountains running from the law with a group of say 15 people maybe? They don't explain exactly what happened - and the first few missions you have to work with others in the group. In RD1, you were a lone outlaw seeking vengeance - I prefer personally over this group aspect. You have contribute funds to the group, contribute meals to the group, contribute supplies etc.

Its also I think - overly realistic. As in, I dont think the vast majority of players are going to want to have to shave every few days, eat every few hours, drink - etc. To me, it was REALLY REALLY cool at first, now its just more of an annoyance. I want to play the game - shootouts, robberies, etc.

Online - as far as I know, there is no online yet. I heard its going to be a month away at least.

Now for the Pros:

Graphic wise - the environment is amazing. Truly amazing. Every last detail of the visual concepts of the environment are astonishing.

Story - the story once it got going is pretty good so far. If you are familiar with RD 1, this is a prequel to that. You are Arthur Morgan, a member of the Dutch gang (if you remember they tried to go after John Marston in RD1). John Marston is actually apart of the gang with you, but you don't play as him (they do however show you how his face gets all messed up). This takes place about 11 years prior to RD1.

Customization - you can customize EVERYTHING. Your weapons, your clothes, your food, your facial hair, heck you can even customize your saddles and horse's hair length. There are no ends to the level of customizations you can do in this game.

Personally, I think this is a really good game, but loses me a little bit with the tidiness of certain aspects. Its a video game first and foremost. At no point should you be bored - and I find myself 3 or 4 days in (only 5 hours of gameplay) a little bored at times. Mainly because you are just riding around the horse for long stretches at a time or having to do meaningless task. When the game is actually being played, and your conducting a mission or a side mission - I am fully enthralled. It just seems that its far and few between galloping around while you smash the A button until your thumb is raw.

I think compared to RD1, it went too overboard. I loved aspects of the RD1 being able to hunt and go where I wanted when I wanted etc. I think they took the aspects that made RD1 AMAZING and tried to expand on them, instead of leaving the original winning formula in place. Don't get me wrong, I am not mad I spent 60 bucks on this game, and lately that's a plus! Its a good game worth the buy no doubt. I just think that people were SO excited about it, they will have trouble acknowledging its flaws.

All in all, it will win game of the year, and will deserve it. I just think it could have been a lot better if Rockstar would have actually dialed some things back.

my .02

Finally got to play it a little bit over the weekend...

The game looks amazing.

Rockstar's presentation is always top notch. The voice acting, the storylines, the little things, they always give you the best bang for your buck.

I thought there was a little too much cutscene stuff early on. Felt more like a Metal Gear game. I understand cutscenes and storylines, but at the end of the day we're gamers and we want to play...

That first shootout, man the controls just feel really good shooting. It's like RDR but just better.

I just started chapter 1 and took the girls into town. I have a LONG way to go lol.

I've been playing the Bioshock collection too just because I love those games, and represent everything that gaming should be (but kinda has gone against lately)

I have a 145$ bounty and no cash to pay for it lol

There have been some awesome reddit posts about things people have experienced in the game. Someone killed a guy out in the wilderness, and came back to the spot a few days later to see the body of the guy still there rotting away.

Someone posted a video of their guy getting struck by lightning

They put a lot of time and effort into this game, and I appreciate the little stuff.

This is no doubt the game of the year (despite there being some awesome 2018 releases)

Im a hoarder, I have like 5K.

Anyone have an Arabian yet ? I have a black Arabian - I cant find the white Arabian. Been up the mountains a few times.

Really irate that I have killed two legendary animals the Bison and Bear - and both times while I was hunting it - The bear after I harvested it I was attacked by a group of Bounty Hunters and died. Lost the skin.

Then the Bison, as I was killing it I ran into the lake and I was not able to skin it!

Anybody play Madden 19 on PC?

I'm having an issue where the keyboard/mouse and xbox 360 controller are fighting with each other. For example I'll drop back to pass and one play my receivers will be listed with keyboard keys, and the next pass play they'll be listed with the xbox controller buttons. It's highly confusing and frustrating.

I've went into the settings and it won't allow me to set one or the other as the default controller.

I'm sure I can solve this by unplugging my mouse and keyboard when I want to play but that just seems like a big time hassle. Is there a logical work around for this?

Is the controller wired or wireless? When wireless, they seem to lose connection fairly frequently. I'd try going wired.

If already wired, I'd try swapping out the cable.

I'm not sure if there might be an update for the 360 controller software or not. It sounds like the PC is losing the signal intermittently, though.

Might also see about updating the PC's bluetooth driver.

I'm playing rdr2 nearly everyday after work....my girl is absolutely obsessed with the game.....everyday she is begging me......is it time to get on our horse yet?

The realism is amazing...and despite the things stated earlier about eating, feeding/brushing your horse, and wearing clothes appropriate for the elements (like dressing warm when your up in the snowy mountains and dressing light down in the bayou.), despite these things, the game is still great. I don't really mind this stuff bc imo, it just makes it that much more immersive.

And the map, its huge, and all those long horse rides, they did a great job throwing in events that happen along the way to break up any monotony. Finding animals, herbs, coming across gangs, KKK rallies, damsels in distress, getting bushwacked, etc..etc...there is literally so much to do and explore and discover, that I don't mind the distances on horseback....

I'm currently far far away from the American frontier.....just beginning chapter 5....

All in all......this is the best game I've ever played....sometimes I just ride around, find a good vantage point, and sit back and appreciate how beautiful the environment really is......From the mountains, to the lakes and streams...down to the swamps...and into the plains, the valleys, and deserts.....

I could probably play this game the rest of the year and well into next before I discover all the little things that make this the greatest game R* has ever produced...

I don't wanna spoil anything, so I'll shut up now.....but DAMN!!!!

I mean....well......DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!

Its beautiful, there are no shortages of surprises and a dynamic environment.....You will see them building houses and barns, only to ride through many days later to completed structures.....

Hunting, fishing, shootouts, robberies...foraging, scavenging, crafting......all the ppl you come across......there is always something happening....and always little side quests to distract you from the main storyline....

Just a masterpiece....

I'm about 52% from total completion....and I'm more and more engrossed everytime I turn on my ps4...

Then the Bison, as I was killing it I ran into the lake and I was not able to skin it!

dang how did you make all the money?
Just going through missions, not spending a lot on clothes or horses.

J/C

I finished the story for RD2. Man, what a story it was. I really now that I have finished it, am really starting to take it in as a whole and appreciate it even more.

This may have been the best STORY of a game I have ever played. I have no doubt that I will play it again. The lead up, the climax, the ending......I wont spoil any of it, but OMG what a well written game.

I was never much into playing video games beyond football, Madden and NCAA. I have an old PS3 big body. I find myself playing so little anymore the idea of upgrading to a PS4 just doesn’t make sense.
In my roommate having days I would watch my buddies play other games on my machines... Silent Hill, Resident Evil, CODs, the various GTAs, etc... I loved watching and helping strategize. Just was never much for actually playing them.
This game makes me wish I had a roommate still. Man I really want to watch a buddy play through it. Those days are behind me. Likely I’ll never see it. Kind of a bummer. (Skyrim was another I wish I could have watched.)

Could always go on Twitch?
Posted By: PortlandDawg Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 11/30/18 08:37 PM
Never heard of Twitch.
That said, part of what I liked was being present and helping strategize. Often times being the person watching, but not playing, helped my buddies as I kept an eye on health levels, ammunition levels, and such while they did the epic battles. I’d often have to remind them to take cover instead of standing in the open trading fire with the enemy. Etc. It gave me the pleasure of playing, without the stress of actually playing.
My guess is Twitch let’s you watch other’s play. I guess it’s a part of the experience I miss. Just not enough to make it enjoyable as it’d not be interactive enough.
Oh to be in my 20’s again.

Thanks for the feedback but got it figured out, it wasn't a wireless issue at all. It worked fine with other games.

I just had to add it to my Steam library and start it in big picture mode with Origin closed. Works flawlessly now.

I really only use it to just check out what a game looks like. How it plays, see what other people are saying.

People are making decent money streaming their stuff. It's crazy. It's a well organized site. Cool to see people still playing old games too.

A few more RDR2 thoughts...

I really love the hunting mechanic. Seeking out 3 star pelts, hitting them with the right shot, right weapon, etc.. It's really well done. Every time I return to my camp, I shoot a deer for my people. Love it

The complete randomness of the world continues to amaze. I rolled up on a really ugly scene. A bloody leg, with boot still on it, and a pool of blood with NOTHING else. Hilarious.

The money system/economy nailed it. I think in a lot of open world type games, the money is really too easy to come by. You can buy out everything with ease. But here, I think it's just perfect. You have money, but you have to be smart about what you want to buy.

I didn't think RDR could be topped, but I'm only about 35% through and I really believe they have. For anyone who hasnt't played RDR, do yourself a favor and play it, because it's a tremendous game.

All I want to do is hunt and fish LOL
Posted By: Tyler_Derden Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 12/05/18 12:42 AM
I'm 65% through.....and even though I'm over halfway done with the storyline, I'll be playing much longer to discover everything there is to discover....
Posted By: willitevachange Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 01/23/19 06:53 PM
im onto AC Odyssey right now. MAN IS THIS GAME long. lol.

I have about a solid month playing it and I would say im only a little more than 50% complete. Doesn't have the detail graphic wise that RDR II has, but the story is pretty great ( I love Spartan/Athenian timeframe - greek gods, etc. so this is right up my alley).

Looking forward to Ace Combat 7 shortly. I have been holding onto my PSVR for this game only.

If you come across this again, follow the blood trail, there should be a decapitated head with a map to other sites...the work of a serial killer who leaves clues for you to find him and his hideous lair.....

oh dang, i will have to check that out

I got enough pelts to craft the legend of the east satchel. You basically can carry as much of anything as you want, and you probably won't have to worry about money again lol.

Not sure about the VR part of it, but Metacritic gave the game an 81 for ps4 and xb1. I think for that game, it's a good review. I talked to a friend that got it and he likes it a lot.

Think I will pick it up after RDR2. I'm about halfway through the game, and I figure by the time I finish it'll be discounted

I finished as well, tremendous story. Excited for those who are still in the middle of it and get to experience it for the first time.

I'm getting towards the end of chapter 6......and I'm trying to accomplish as many tasks as I can away from the storyline bc I just don't want it to end.....

Plus, my girl bought this official guide telling you where to find interesting stuff...like indian burial grounds, pagan ritual sites, a giant, a man-made mutant, dinosaur bones, rock carvings, unique items....and it tells you things to do that are time sensitive...like, you have to do before the epilogue, or things that only become available after the epilogue....

SO she is always telling me where to go, what to check out, etc.....

But its getting to the point where I'm gonna have to start heading into the end of the story...... superconfused

So....I'm kinda late to the party regarding the ps4......though, I was an avid gamer when I had my ps3...…

Anyhow......lately I've been playing rdr2...and I'm close to ending the storyline....

And my brother...seeing as he's spending the next year hiking/backpacking, he gave me a bunch of his games; as he won't have any use for them on the trail...

So I'm wondering what to get into next??

He's given me gta V which I was playing up to around 50% completion before rdr2 came out...

He's also given me Batman: Arkham knight, which he highly recommended even though he's not a big superhero guy...

He's given me Uncharted Anthology 1-3 remastered I think...

Madden 19

And finally, The Last of Us remastered.....which I've heard a lot about....

Would one of these be great for my next quest.....or is there something else I should look into...

I used to like Fallout: New Vegas.....so I've heard Fallout 4 is amazing...

A coworker talks endlessly about skyrim……

Or is there something else out there that I'm missing.....

I'm not really into fps.....I do like some platformers like God of War....and I heard the new one is great...though my brother said that he was forced to return it because of how annoying the banter between kratos and his son had gotten.....in his opinion, it made the game completely unplayable....idk.....

I enjoy adventure games with puzzles and exploration....like maybe there is an amazing Tomb Raider game I missed.....or maybe by-pass the uncharted anthology and go directly to uncharted 4....

I know for certain that Fallout 76 is not within my consideration just based on all I've read.....

But.....anyone have any recommendations??? Where to go next???

As I've said, I'm pretty new to the ps4, so, it can be an older title, just so long as it will grow into a memorable gaming experience....

Thank you for any input!!!!!

Some decent games in there my friend.

I would personally go with Last of Us. The graphics are beautiful, the gameplay is fluid and the story is outstanding.

GTA is fun and you will have a good time playing it. But if you want a great story with great gameplay, Last of Us is the way to go.
Posted By: brownsfan2119 Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 02/01/19 05:28 PM
Another vote for The Last of Us. I would also finish up GTAV.
Posted By: Spergon FTWynn Re: The Gaming Thread, Part III - 02/02/19 04:16 PM
I can give you some of my recommendations, but I really only do offline single player type stuff. I don't get too much into online, although maybe that will change at some point. My nephew just got a ps4 as well so I'm sure he's gonna want to play me online in something..

As said before Last of us and GTA V ports to ps4 are awesome...

I really loved Shadow of Mordor. Really cool game. Have not played the sequel.

Witcher 3, and you can probably get it on the cheap. Well worth the price, and the DLC for it is supposed to be awesome.

People are raving about the new Resident Evil 2 remake. I have not played it myself.

I loved Far Cry 5. Just mindless shooting with a fun storyline.

Mad Max was the first game I bought and I loved every second of it. So much fun.

Dying Light is awesome.

Everybody's Golf is a cool golf-arcade style game. It really sucks that EA isn't doing golf games anymore, because the courses would look amazing on ps4 graphics.

The Bioshock Trilogy is cool if you are a huge fan of the game. Pretty good port. I think the last game is remastered, maybe the last 2, but they still look great for previous gen games.

I bought MGS Phantom Pain, because it was highly rated, looked cool, and it was dirt cheap on Amazon. I got bored by it, and deleted the upload from my console. I may bust that one out sometime down the line, but I just could not get into it.

Watch Dogs 2 was AWESOME if you love GTA style games.

Tons of good games out there, and prices for some of these are quite reasonable.

I was looking for a fight night type game.....used to love those boxing games....really all the fight nights......but they don't make them anymore.

I don't think there is a single next-gen boxing game....

I miss fight night. lol

The UFC games are fun. But fight nights were so much more.

UFC has great grahics, and motions/animations. But the gameplay is very complicated as are the controls imo.

I'd kill for another Fight Night. I was just playing some Knockout Kings 2000 on my PS Classic last night.

They were a cut above, and one of EAs last decent franchises - of course they would cancel them lol.

Man, Days Gone looks like a ton of fun. I might have to grab that when it comes out. Some of the gameplay vidoes are awesome looking.

I finished RDR2. Great game overall. I still like the story of the first game better, and I think there is almost too much to do in the second game. I do hope they do an undead nightmare 2 which would be awesome.

I really want to see Rockstar do an updated Vice City game, would be AMAZING.

I started the Bioshock trilogy remaster, and already beat the first game. For being over 10 years old, that game really holds up well. Great storyline, the graphics aren't that much of a drop off, awesome use of old school music, and great mechanics. I never finished 2, or even started Infinite, so I can't wait to see how those go.
