Would you guys give any thought to removing posts that are filled w/slander? I am talking about how common it has become for people to attribute ideas to others that are untrue. They do it to win an argument, but I think it is wrong to slander another person's character by making things up. I have asked a couple of individuals to please stop resorting to that technique, but it is not working. Just today, a poster fabricated my position on abortion. I have never once given my views on abortion. But, to discredit my position on an issue of providing money w/out any restrictions, a poster decided to make it look like I felt a certain way about abortion. These false narratives are designed to attack one's character and I think slanderous lies should not be permitted on this board.

I know right! It's like being called an extremist all the time for no reason other than not agreeing with the corporatists moderate middle that props up the oligarchy.

I'd love for a rewritten rules of the pound!

We could clarify what classifies as bigotry, sexism, racism, and valid sources. Hey, even throw defining slander in there!

I was simply trying to speak about people fabricating things that others are saying. They do so to paint that person in a negative light. Others read it and assume that the other poster actually said that.

I've seen a few guys do it in the football forums, but that isn't a big deal because in the grand scheme of things, it's not important who likes or dislikes Baker, Hue, Sashi, etc.

However, when you start lying what others are saying in regards to things like abortion, race relations, gender, etc........you are slandering their character.

We can all disagree on interpretations of the things you mentioned or out opinions, but making up outright lies to slander others is something that I think is completely out-of-bounds. For example, I might get ticked if you call me a bigot, but that is just your interpretation of me. However, attributing comments that I have never said, or even thought, is going too far.

You can at least agree w/that, right?

That's why they made the political forum. It's a garbage dump...a place to put the trash so it doesn't pollute the other forums. Enter at your own risk. Always keep in mind that nothing positive happens there.

I was thinking about that earlier today. I'm pretty depressed that some folks would do that to me, but I guess it is why I mostly avoided that forum over the years.

When sports are available, I concentrate on them and don't pay as much attention to the bickering in politics. Since there haven't been sports to talk about, I have spent more time in the Political forum. It's very depressing.

The PP Forum has become an echo chamber for the "zero-sum" extreme on either end of the political spectrum. Spare your sanity and stay out of it - leave it to them. What I would wish is that the mods keep those individual's vitriol out of the other forums, so they would be quarantined to the swamp where they belong.

I think you and jfan are probably right.

For someone who sure hates politics, you sure love complaining about people talking about politics.

Your mask is slipping, Dave.

Your opinion means nothing to me.

I'm okay w/you guys locking the thread. It wasn't my intent to start a war between individual posters, change a ton of rules, or punish anyone. I was just maybe hoping that outright lies be removed if someone brings it to your attention.

I just don't think it is right to make up lies about what others are saying in order to destroy that person's character. I'll argue w/anyone, but resorting to lies to get others to think poorly of that person. Nope. That is out of bounds.

It apparently means enough for a reply for you to tell me my opinion means nothing.

Hint: Apparently I'm worth the effort to reply to.

Yeah, just lock it. Everything gets twisted on here.
