Eight people were killed at three metro Atlanta massage parlors on Tuesday, and the prime suspect was arrested 150 miles away after a dramatic car chase, according to police.

The bloody attacks -- which happened within the space of about an hour -- occurred at two parlors in northeast Atlanta and one about 30 miles northwest of the city in Cherokee County. Four of the victims were described as of Korean ethnicity by South Korean officials.

This anti-Asian violence or whatever is happening in this country really needs to stop. Obviously the pandemic has a huge play in how people are viewing people of Asian descent (despite the fact that not everybody is Chinese). However, let’s not pretend like this is new. There’s been resentment brewing against these communities for sometime now.

I remember a not too distant future were some white people referred to them as...what was it? Lol, ‘model minority.’ Basically, they kept their mouths shut and didn’t challenge the classism they were put in, unlike the others.

Their population is growing here, and anti-Asian discrimination has been brewing for sometime now. And now we have multiple women dead by some guy who clearly looks like he masturbates to Japanese anime and says the N word on right wing message boards.

Sad. He has the same haircut and empty-soul look like that loser from Ohio that rammed his car into a crowd in Charlottesville.

Why is there such hate for the Asian american community?

You have to look for key phrases in his posts like "I don't know that" and "probably no more than" to see he is basing it on his opinions, gut feelings and not basing it on any actual facts.

Some things are more convenient to not actually know for some people. If it doesn't fit into your tight little vision of what you think the world around you actually looks like, why would you want to upset that apple cart by finding the truth?

I'm familiar with that pattern. Much like something that would bury it's head in the sand if what they see hear doesn't fit into a tight little basket of beliefs

Suspect in Atlanta-area massage parlor shootings charged with murder, assault

ATLANTA (NewsNation Now) — The Georgia man accused in the shootings at three Atlanta-area massage parlors that killed eight people, most of them of Asian descent, has been charged with murder and assault.

Authorities in Cherokee County say 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long was charged with four counts of murder and one count of assault in the shooting at a massage parlor there.

The other victims were killed at two massage parlors in Atlanta.

Officials said they’re still investigating whether the killings were hate crimes amid concerns over a wave of attacks on Asian Americans. Six of the victims were Asian and seven were women.

Authorities said Long, who’s white, told police his act wasn’t racially motivated and that he potentially had a “sex addiction.”

They also said he was planning to go to Florida in a plot to attack “some type of porn industry.”

“He made indicators that he has some issues, potentially sexual addiction, and may have frequented some of these places in the past,” said Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds.

It was not clear if Long ever went to the parlors where the shootings occurred.

The attacks began Tuesday evening when five people were shot at Youngs Asian Massage Parlor near Woodstock, about 30 miles north of Atlanta. Two of the victims died at the scene and three were transported to a hospital where two of them also died, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Jay Baker said.

Later Tuesday evening, police officers responded to a call of a robbery in progress at Gold Spa in the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. Officers found three women dead from apparent gunshot wounds. While they were at that scene, they learned of a call reporting shots fired at another spa across the street, Aromatherapy Spa, and found a woman who appeared to have been shot dead inside the business.

The shootings appear to be at the “intersection of gender-based violence, misogyny and xenophobia,” Georgia state Rep. Bee Nguyen said, the first Vietnamese American to serve in the Georgia House and a frequent advocate for women and communities of color.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said that regardless of the shooter’s motivation, “it is unacceptable, it is hateful and it has to stop.”

The attack was the sixth mass killing this year in the U.S., and the deadliest since the August 2019 Dayton killing that took the lives of nine people, according to a database compiled by The Associated Press, USA Today and Northeastern University.

America is being made aware of how bad it is NOW, so yea, we’re making a big deal out it NOW because we’ve realized how bad it is NOW.

The old saying ‘better late than never’ comes to mind, but the way this guy is acting is like somehow we was better off never caring.

I swear there’s always a group of people always trying to steer the main issue somewhere else. We got a big problem with increased violence against people of Asian descent. We need to stand with our people and figure out a path forward.

Asian Americans are what, 5-7% of the country? They’re a growing population, already had people ticked off because of how deep the kids are in universities, growing anti Chinese resentment pre-pandemic that exploded during the pandemic.

It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter when people started caring or not. We care now.

I don't know a lot of them personally, but the ones I do know are exactly like that.

...but where do we go from there? As an engineer, I'm a very problem/solution-oriented person. Basically, the root of the problem is that people are dumb (pandemic exacerbating underlying ant-Asian sentiment). I'm not sure how to verbalize a solution that doesn't sound like Palus Politicus Troll material.

Not quite. He chose to murder Asian women at all Asian owned business. This was a hate crime against Asians first.

The conclusion. You see, I've always believed that a person of any color can commit a hate crime towards a person of another color. It doesn't matter what color the person is that attacks an Asian person. What matters is the motive.

Since the entire "China Virus" "Kung flu" was uttered by Trump, attacks on Asians has risen sharply. The only point that was actually made is that the increase in violence against Asians wasn't "strictly" by white supremacists. Of course if you notice, they didn't actually break down how much that portion of attacks against Asians are being committed compared to before the sharp rise began.

It's a simple assembly of numbers that support an end game and not an actual look at all of the facts or anything that would be contrary to the conclusion desired.

That was probably the biggest point he was trying to make and I'm assuming he felt compelled to do so considering the country's reaction as a result of any incident and immediately blaming racism, or like you, white supremacy specifically on violent acts against Asians (not even proven to be hate crimes). Hell, you are THE perfect example of who he was talking to regarding the situation and data presented.

Anytime there is an international incident or politics that can cause people to perceive other citizens and immigrants in a negative light, then it is important for leaders to get out the messaging that preaches tolerance toward others. That just seems like common sense to me. Don't wait for violent blowback to occur, just assume that it is going to occur and take measures to ease the tension.

I am not sure how much anger there is directed toward Asians right now. I have not noticed any warning signs in my day to day life, but things could be different in other parts of the country.

I would hope that most people realize that the views and policy of the Chinese Communist Party does not represent the whole of all Asian people. In fact, I would say that the most anti-CCP people that I know are families that came from China.

I feel for those women on more than one level. Dying like this, having to do the work they do, and then having the cops treat this guy like a normal dude...
