I work with some lovely young ladies. Most of them are sporting tattoos (some are really inked up), and I think that it detracts from their natural beauty. Maybe it's my age? I'm curious to see what others think about this.
What about the underboob tattoos? These are all the rage.
Not that you would be able to see it on ladies you work with.
Also, henna is very popular. Although it isnt permanent.
Don't like that underboob tat. My SIL was in India for a work project last year and had the locals do that henna thing on her hand and forearm and had video taken of part of the process. It was pretty cool watching the talented local ladies to it.
I wonder if people who get body tattoos ever stop and think about what they will look like when they are 50 .... or 60 .....
I mean, the 70 year old lady goes to her doctor, and has to disrobe ..... and has a tramp stamp .... or the underboob deal.
Some of these look great on an 18-20 year old ..... but once they get a little older ..... and/or add a little more weight ..... and they start to look kinda bad.
This is why I have no tattoos lol.
Because age happens.
If I was gonna get one it would a tiny thing that wouldnt be affected by age.
(If I was a chef or serial killer)
I once dated a girl who was kinda both ....
Seriously though, I don't mind small ones, but not huge sleeves, and such .......... and when people go full facial and such, I have to wonder what kind of work they will be able to do.
Well, when the ladies get older, their boobs will probably cover-up the tattoo anyway.

Those tramp stamps will probably look like a parsley garnish over 2 scoops of cottage cheese.
I could have really made out on a tattoo, if I would have got one about 12-13 years ago, on my gut.
My gut was trim and tight at that point ...... now it's a big fat blob ..... but the tattoo would now probably be about 3-4 times its original size.
There's one main problem with the underboob tattoo. The older a woman gets, the less of it you would see.

That looks wonderful with her firm boobs and flat stomach... repost in 15 years and let me know how it's doing...

Lots of stuff looks better on a 20 year old as compared to a 50 or 60 year old. Most 50 or 60 year olds don’t give a crap either. They know they’re not ‘attractive’ to 20 year olds anymore anyway.
What it comes down to is you only go around on this rock once. It’s a very brief window. If you want tattoos, get them. Who cares what you’ll look like at 60. No one is likely going to want to see you naked anyway at that age. And those that do want to see you naked at that age aren’t going to care about your stupid tattoos. Likely they’ll be more worried their Cialis fires up and starts working.
I have tats. My girlfriend has tats. She’s beautiful... ink... no ink... matters not.
When I’m 66 and she’s 60 she’ll still be beautiful to me. Ink. No ink.
As a nurse I’ve seen plenty of old tattoos on old people. Every one comes with a story. The story is important still. Even if the ink has faded, stretched, or sagged.
Go be you.
Ink. No ink.
And remember...(to those under 60) don’t assume you’ll make your 60th birthday. If you’re 20 year old self wants a tattoo go for it.
YOLO
There's only one place we disagree. At 20 years old you may want a Phis tattoo. By the time you're 35 that may very well sound pretty stupid to you.
My dad requested that I at least wait until I was in my mid 30's to get tattoos. By then he felt I would have the time to think about it and be very sure that they would be something I wanted on my body for the rest of my life.
I took his advice and I'm very glad I did. I have numerous tats and am quite happy with them. I can't say that would be the outcome had I have rushed into it when I was younger.
Much like you I believe to each their own. I do however think my dad's advice was sound and wise.
I agree Pit. I got my first in my late 20’s. I made sure my tats had some meaning to me. They tell part of my story. They speak to my heritage, my beliefs, and to my influences.
I can’t imagine just getting random flash art, or a Yosemite Sam, or other such random thing on my skin for life. But if that’s what one chooses to go with who am I to stop them? I’ll just laugh behind their back..
Oh we certainly agree. That's why I would never tell someone not to get a tattoo. At the same time I don't feel it hurts anything to give them a little something to think about before they jump in feet first.
On women, I hate tattoos. I see the woman's body as a work of art and a tattoo just disfigures it.
I can't vote as there are options that fall between what is listed here.
On some women, some tattoos look like crap, but similar work on another woman might look great (or even kinda hot!). For me, there is no rule - it depends on the ink, how it is done, and the individual.
As for the idea of waiting to get one - the only sort of caution I've ever found necessary was a couple of simple rules:
- Never get a name - ANY name (if you get her name on your chest and she dumps you, you're not going to be happy)
- Never get a logo or brand or anything from pop culture (that 7-Eleven or Chevy logo, the NASCAR driver's number, or the face of Lady Gaga might seem like a great idea right now, but in fifteen years you might be regretting that choice
- ask yourself if you can be happy with this FOREVER - if you have to think about it, you need to start serious reconsideration
- Get something that means something to you
- NEVER get something because someone else thinks it's cool
I followed most of these from the beginning and having gotten my first ink at age 18 and still being content with what I got, I feel it has served me well. YMMV - do what speaks to You.
I would only offer one exception to rule #1. My brother is deceased and I have thought about getting HIS name incorporated into a tattoo.. but anybody living, yea, I wouldn't do that.
I may get my dogs name inked. I know he’ll always love me.
I think that's a valid tribute and exception.
As for dog names.... I had considered it once. Ten years after their passing, I'm kinda glad I didn't.
What I would get is a paw. When my girl passed she was my first dog), the vets took an ink blot of one of her feet and mailed it to me. I actually will get that as one of my next tats.

No, that is Crispy Creme's job.

And NEVER, NEVER EVER, get a Cleveland Indians World Series Champs tattoo, before they win.

Your children's names are another exception to that.
I thought about getting my entire family tree (going back 300 years) tattooed on my ass but I didn't know what to get tattooed on the other cheek
You should get a mushroom cloud tattooed across both cheeks.

The one branch?
Tattoos are a personal statement, and should never be done on a whim, especially if it is your first or one of only a couple.
And as much thought should be given to where you put the tattoo, as to what tattoo you get.
J/C
I have a good amount of tats. 9 I believe.
My own rules are:
No names of anyone other than a child
nothing that cannot be covered up by clothing
Other than that, I have tats that mean something to me, and ones that I just thought were pretty cool looking when I walked by a shop and got put on.
I don't get tattoos for others to see, I enjoy getting them, and I enjoy having them for me.
I don't need approval of anyone, and could care less what anyone thinks of them.

nah, I disagree. My favorite tattoo that I have I woke up one morning, was walking by a shop - saw one I liked - tweeked it a bit with the artist, and slapped it on. Has absolutely 0 meaning, but I love the design and how it looks.
I got one the entire length of my ummmmmm willie. One little dot and I was done

I will go out on a limb and guess that it was not your first tattoo, and that you most likely had an idea of what kind of tattoos you liked or were drawn to, so while it was spontaneous, I would guess it was not on a whim.
Just get a temporary tattoo and see if you like and want to live with it.

If or when I get a tattoo I don't give one single crap if anybody likes it or not. It's none of their business.

Nope, my first tattoo was a superman symbol on my arm. im a fan of comics. I went on my 18th bday, I wasn't sure what I wanted, just that I wanted a tattoo. So I got a superman logo because I know I enjoy the comics and character. Although it has some meaning, I chose it on a whim.
but the point being, my favorite one is one I had 0 plans of getting, or gave any thought process towards getting it until I walked in to get one.
Tattoos are a weird thing, they are one of those things that unless you have received one, you don't really understand them. They can have great meaning, little meaning, or 0 meaning at all.
It doesn't mean that you cannot enjoy getting one, or enjoy the feeling of when you get one.
And to those that make comments about "whats that going to look like when your 60", come over, ill pull down my back side, and you can look at the one on my right cheek and let me know :)What does it matter to you or anyone else what it looks like.
These old people look pretty content if you ask me.
I got one the entire length of my ummmmmm willie. One little dot and I was done
When I was in the Navy I knew a guy that had a fly tat on the end of his ummm willie....He was a better man than me.

Was that so he’d never forget to zip up his fly?

I know a 40 something young woman who have her kids birth dates tattooed on the back of her neck in roman numerals..
That seems kinda decent....

My ex got a skull & crossbones on her ring finger

Speaking for me, what tattoo?
I agree with DC. As a woman ages, tats don't look all that great. Guys not as bad because their skin doesn't wrinkle as soon, and I don't really check out guys all that much.
Pfft.
Underboob tattoo is more dependant on boob size and body size.
I'm 47 and could still pull that off if I wanted to.
For example, a large breasted squirrel like this couldnt have an underboob tattoo due to sagging.
Wont work for fat squirrels either.
What about this one?
For some old ladies an underboob tattoo could be on their thighs. OK OK the same could be said for some of us old guys as well
I've contemplated getting a tattoo across my back that is the east outline of the state of Ohio, and then the west outline of the state of Alaska. I'd combine them into a single state, and then fill the tattoo in as the years go with smaller picture to represent my journey.
I'm about to get a forearm piece that has the coastlines going from Port Saeed at the northern end of Suez down through the Red Sea, around the Horn of Africa and down to Kenya as part of a sleeve I'm having done.
I do believe in self expression being that I have a couple of tat's myself. That being said, I see a lot of younger people that I work with have tatoos on their necks, faces, and covering their hands. I lot of these youngins some how can't understand that they are getting past up for promotions or even hired on (some are temporaries) due to how they present themselves. Although I work in a factory , a lot of jobs that you get promoted to have a lot to do with self presentation and will affect future business for our company. I know that is messed up but its life. Think about it, would you take anyone serious upon anything that someone said if they had tat's all over their face. If your going to have tatooes, have them in a place you can cover them up as to be in a professional situation.
Have no tatoos here.
For years i've wanted The Brownie Elf on my bicep. Yeeeeeaars. Other than that, they just don't excite me. However, I don't dislike em either.
Darn it! Now ya got me again thinkin about gettin the Elf.
You know, the mean lookin one runnin with the ball with the stiff arm out in front of him.
People have been marking, disfiguring, and decorating their bodies for centuries. It's always cultural. Our culture now happens to be in a state where severe tattooing is prevalent. My view is, it's your body, it's only here temporarily, do whatever you want to it. It's also my view that a heavily tatted chic is extremely unattractive and I wouldn't give her a second look. But clearly, I'm not the dude she'd be looking for so I'm sure they could care less. I have one I got years ago. I don't even think about it any more. I would like to ask people after a lifetime of full body tats, "Hey, where do you think you'd be if you'd invested that money instead of basically pissing it away on ink no one cares about but you?"
JMHO
I have a few tattoos (3). Got my first one when I was 30. I was old enough to make the decision to get it and thought a lot about what they are and where they are placed. I have one on the inside of my wrist, one just above my elbow and one on my shoulder blade. I won't go into the whys behind their location or what they are/mean etc. etc. Tattoos can be personal or they can just be body modification and art and what you see is what you get. One is not better than the other.
Do I regret them? No. Would I change them now? Perhaps. But, it is what it is and they represent my journey through this life at a particular time. And, I am a similar age to Eve, actually a couple years older...I am healthy for my age and feel that I look younger than I am. The only thing that has changed on my tats is the ink changes from black to that blue'ish black and it also "blurs" a bit over time...so, some of the smaller details can no longer be seen unless really looking at it. But, I have no age sag nor wrinkle.
One thing I would say, however, (especially to teens or folks in their young 20s), is be wise as to where they get their tattoo. You want to be able to cover them if needed. I live in a city where tattoos are very common, however, I like that my tattoos can be totally hidden or exposed if and when I choose to do so.
"Hey, where do you think you'd be if you'd invested that money instead of basically pissing it away on ink no one cares about but you?"
That is where you are lost on. Most of us do not get tattoos for others to see, but for ourselves. Its expression of ones self - not an expression of others.
To answer your question, I would be in the same spot you are (as a few hundred bucks isn't going to make much a dent in my finances over a lifetime) except happier because I expressed myself the way I saw fit.
I don't think I'm lost. Like I said, I don't care what you do with your body. I also don't believe a full body of tats is a few hundred bucks. But I'm all about to each his/her own.
Just got a new tattoo while I was in Bangkok. It is the evil brownie elf, only paid $80, great deal, great piece. He travels to Japan all the time to do work. If I knew how to post a picture I would.
Got this in Bangkok, Thailand for $80, good deal.
You forgot to like your own post so I thought I would chip in to help.
No ink for me, but if I did, it would be this, for obvious reasons:

It's a 6" butterfly in about 8 colors, resting on a flower, with a sunset, on my lower back... right above the line of my thong.
