if a Covid vaccine is available to you today, what would you do?

I’d take it right now if I could.

As a nurse I may have no choice but to take it to maintain my employment. I’d prefer to wait on some level but it is what it is. I want to get back to some semblance of normalcy. I want to travel the world again. I want to see live music. Etc. If I have to sacrifice myself on some level to obtain those things... so be it. Every generation has a test. This is ours. If it causes me harm/cancer/whatever in 15-20 years... so be it. So does the bacon I eat for breakfast on the weekends. The burgers and fries I shove in my face. The greasy pizza I enjoy. So does the herb I smoke to take the edge off. And on and on. Life is short. I want to get back to living it.
Give me the shot. Let’s do this thing.

I think I rather wait until some time (6 months or more) passes before I have it.

Reasons:

1) My brother in law's younger sister became mentally disabled because of a bad vaccine batch as a baby. And she died young. I'm not an anti-vaccer, but I know this has been rushed through. I want to see evidence of safety before I take it.

2) The infection rate in my town is .0001. I practice safety precautions. I'm not terribly fearful of catching it. I am mostly staying in the house unless I'm going out with my fellow.

I would just rather wait until this vaccine is field tested better. I'd guess it won't take long to field test it, with the first responders and eldery being fast tracked to receive it.

I would be pushing myself to the front of the line.

It's not only a new vaccine, but also a new method of creating a vaccine. I'm not sure how I feel about firedrilling something that has so much newness/uncertainty attached to it.

I'm going to wait because I can, but also have to acknowledge that to truly find out if there are any unknown issues with the vaccine, I'd probably have to wait YEARS.

The studies are panning out. Looks like there's no adverse effects, and hopefully no issues down the road years later.

I'll be getting it.

I'll do anything to protect my wife and our child that is due in June.

One Day, I say, I'd jump to get it, first in line, I'll sign up for the trials.
Another day, I say, I'll never get it, it gives you covid, that you recover from, I've done that, I think, before, it was awful! (mega awful) I don't want any part of that again. (expletative! I'm not even recovered, and that was sept. 2019, what if; (mega frowns)

So I voted for never get it.

Really doesn't matter what I think, because it's not our choice, they're going to tie you down and ram it down, .. force you to drink it.

I'm right there with you. I just turned 60, long term effects are of no concern to me. The older I get, the more valuable the remaining years become. I don't want to spend any more time than I have to missing out on family gatherings, being around people I care about and wearing masks. I absolutely hate not being able to see facial expressions on people I'm communicating with, or knowing that people can't see me smile.

I will be in February and I feel exactly as you do. Plus I'm so tired of the mask thing.

I have no choice but to wait. The government said I am expendable. I'll be at the back of the line. Maybe in a few years I'll be able to get it.

You can take my spot. Unless or until I fall in to a risk category I don't see much of a need for it. That's not me being hard headed about Covid, its just me being consistent. I've always been a minimalist when it comes to medicines and vaccines. I never get the flu shot and even though I've had about 3 bouts with shingles over the last several years, I was able to manage them with the anti-virals they gave me at the time. I don't have any interest in that vaccine either.

Maybe that will change as I get older and risk factors change. If so I'll re-evaluate.

No doubt you will. We spend our entire life re-evaluating things. Jumping off the garage roof when you are 12 is no big deal. At age 35, not such a good idea.

I think everybody should have to pay for the shot. Maybe $1000 a pop. Those who can afford it get it, those who can't, well, go out and get a job.

It's going to be a monumental task to administer 300 million doses. I remember as a youngster lining up for polio shots. The lines were 4-5 blocks long. It will probably be much the same with this.

No doubt front line workers need them first since they are dealing with infected people on a regular basis.

Then I suppose you start working down by age group since the older the individual, the harder this thing kicks you in the ass.

I remember getting a polio vaccine that was in a sugar cube when I was a kid. Something like that could be self-administered.

If it was allowed, it would still depend. How much volume is required to deliver the proper dose? I don't know if you can simply ingest all vaccines. If so, why give injections and not a sugar cube with everything?

I don't know what a syringe and needle might cost, but it has to be more than a sugar cube. No?

I'm not a doctor or a nurse, but I injected insulin to my diabetic dog for years. Its not that hard. The syringes were somewhat pricey, but that was only because you needed a new one every injection.

The blessing and curse of this new vaccine tech (mRNA vaccines) is they need to be stored at a low temperature and injected. Sadly there's not a sugar cube method yet for it.

mRNA works well as it basically uploads instructions to your cells to create the spike protein which Covid-19 uses to infect, but makes it so that the spike can easily be defeated by allowing the cells to make antibodies to kill it. It works so well that the body generates a huge immune response. The immune response triggers a fever in some individuals, but it's only generated by the body developing antibodies to kill the covid-19 spike.

In order for all of this to happen, mRNA vaccines have to be stored in cold temps to keep them stable.

It's cool tech. It may provide the solution to vaccinate against HIV and defeat various forms of cancer.

There's been multiple reports and studies of asymptomatic individuals having health complications from Covid-19 even though they never felt symptoms during their illness.

I'd urge you to get it for the sake of yourself with all of those you must come into contact with on a daily basis. You can also potentially spread it while asymptomatic to others as well.

Let's protect ourselves and others, Devil.

I would wait 6 months if possible. I would make the politicians get it first.

I'll bet jobs with lots of forced face-to-face interactions will require the vaccine.
