We had only held the lead for a total of 5 mins and 06 seconds all season.

I heard something the other day that said they had only been leading after the 1st quarter like 3 times in two years.

Yes. It's basically the "just don't do anything to screw this up" game plan.

They're just waiting for the Browns to start Brownsing.

We don't get beat deep. We also give up every short pass.

If #41 is playing up that's a potential pick six. That Keenum throw was real late, but it didn't matter.

Well there went field position
Posted By: cfrs15 Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:08 PM
Blitz generates little pressure (Keenum had a perfect pocket), wide open player downfield. First down.
Posted By: BDU Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:08 PM
I'm annoyed with Gregg Williams blitzing on 3rd and 11. You want a guy like Case Keenum throwing in to heavy coverage. If the blitz doesn't get there, he's getting someone open. Make him make a mistake. He can't bust heavy coverage.
Posted By: Xanthros Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:08 PM

It's all he knows. It's what he's been doing his whole career. He blitzed a ton even though he had Aaron Donald and Robert Quinn.

That was Louis on the first one. That's two 3rd down "drops" that would have gone for first downs.

I felt contact was very early on both, to be honest, but the second was clear PI, imo.

Our offense is so anemic. I understand JT being out is massive but we simply are not even remotely challenging a pass play outside the box. They could have 9 in the box, it matters for naught. Kessler at least did hit a few nice intermediate throws last week - not saying he is the solution but those passes are obviously in the playbook. We are so stymied by our QBs, it's strangling us.

He's an excellent running back and underrated by his own team. I had him on my fantasy team in his rookie season and have always watched him since then. I thought he was good enough to be Peterson's replacement when he left.

I could see wanting time in case you didn't make it on third to figure out if we want to go for it in fourth....

But I agree... I would have liked to let some clock run....

Ya'll see Kizer sprinting down the field, hyped, high fiving his guys on the way, getting a hug from Duke Johnson? He's smiling, clapping, giving guys high fives.

That was an awesome drive. We needed it, but I think Kizer did too. He hasn't scored in the last three weeks. Now he's got that monkey off his back, and what an excellent drive it was from the young man.

That's awesome.

It was a great drive - that shovel pass was the catalyst for it. Let's hope this is the start of something, I'd love it to be so. We all want DK to be the guy. He needs to grow but that's a decent start. Convert it to a win and then we can start hoping..

This is definitely not the place to have this discussion, but there is nothing Kizer can do to convince me he is "the guy." That means we are drafting a QB.

Posted By: BDU Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:45 PM
Annoying from Gregg Williams. Why he's blitzing to end the 2nd half, with 40 seconds left, I will never understand. Play heavy coverage. Make them burn their time outs picking up 5 yards on the run or attempt to pass it in the coverage.

There was no need for it. I love Gregg Williams, but his incessant blitzing is downright irresponsible, at times.
Posted By: Xanthros Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:45 PM

Fair play. I've maintained since the start of the season we draft a QB till we hit one. I think we draft one high next year regardless. Apologies for the kinda O/T smile
Posted By: jfanent Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:45 PM
It's tradition. As c pointed out, Hue needed to let some more time run off the clock.
Posted By: Homewood Dog Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:46 PM
It seems to me GW try's to be too aggressive with blitzing and he doesn't have the CB's to cover one on one.

Literally all the time.
Posted By: DogNDC Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:48 PM
I'm glad someone sees that. He puts the D in bad positions by blitzing too much.
Posted By: Xanthros Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:50 PM
No one said prevent. Just only rush 4. They haven’t got to the QB yet why not force them into mistakes with man to man?
Posted By: Swish Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:50 PM
Yall need to understand that we aren’t anywhere near good enough to let the clock run out and score at will.

We have to take points whenever they present itself in a timely matter.
Posted By: drobs Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:51 PM
I like the attitude GW's defense plays with. There are warts for sure but I'll take what we have for now.

Do we get the ball to start the 2nd?

Posted By: Xanthros Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:52 PM
Let’s be real. Theres no real drop off with peppers hurt. No excuse to blitz literally every play especially when it doesn’t work.
Posted By: Rishuz Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 02:53 PM
Inexcusable for Hue to take that timeout before the score. That's what allowed Minn to score. Absolutely inexcusable. The coach isn't supposed to prevent you from winning.

Defense is very good even with the backups.

Offense is anemic.

He missed on an early deep shot to Njoku that did come open, so I was waiting for the Browns to go back to that. Picked the right time to do it. He nailed it one attempt #2.

The shovel pass, I think, was indicative of how much his process has sped up over the last few weeks. Nobody open, pressure in the pocket, didn't panic, navigated some space and made a quick decision when Crow dropped off his block.

He's now got three QB sneak TDs on the season. He makes it look easy. He's a really, really big kid. Nice to have a threat like that.

Awesome first half from him. 8/12 for 101 yards and 1 TD. Rushing game is holding up, 10 attempts for 58 yards and 1 TD. That's not including the two 3rd down drops from Louis.

Special teams has let us down with the missed XP and muffed punt. That's a 4 point swing.

Really like what the defense has done. A few little issues, but the collapse came when gassed. Otherwise, we've been solid. Ogbah isn't filling the stat sheet but he's having an excellent game. Schobert has 9 tackles, 1 interception and 1 FF. Collins and Kirksey have both made some really nice plays, too.

In the 2nd half, I hope we keep doing what we're doing. Play hard defense, let Kizer pick his spots, try keep this run game going and outlast them.

Gregg Williams has to tone down the blitzing. We've forced Keenum to throw 28 first half passes. He'll have to throw more in the 2nd half if we keep the lead. You want a guy like Keenum throwing in to coverage, not having easy passes because they're anticipating and picking up the blitz. Williams is on a hyper masculine trip. He needs to calm down.

I don't feel like Minnesota has too many points in them. We just have to bide our time and pick our spots.

I disagree. Worth it to try keep his young offense calm and steady. No rushing, nothing silly. It worked. We got a touchdown.

We can't exist if giving Case Keenum 40 seconds to march 80 yards is too much. That was all Gregg Williams. He shouldn't have been dialling up the blitz in that situation.

It was only 2nd down when he called the time out. If we missed on 3rd down, we'd have plenty of time to reset for a 4th down play. Alas, we didn't miss on 3rd down.

And, again, Case Keenum had only 40 seconds to march the field. That being "too much" just doesn't bode well for me.

Zane Gonzalez is about as reliable as a kicker from an FCS school.

This is definitely not the place to have this discussion, but there is nothing Kizer can do to convince me he is "the guy." That means we are drafting a QB.

It's at the point of the season that no matter what Kizer does the next 8 games, short of winning them all, he can't be the QB of the future when you are going to be in position to draft one.

You have to draft one.

Agreed. I like what the Redskins did when they bet the house on RG3, they drafted Cousins as well. That seemed to work out for them.

Those who buy the game pass from NFL.com should get a discount since they only get to see the all 21 view.
Posted By: HewDawg Re: Gameday Thread - 10/29/17 03:31 PM
I don’t like having a guy so deep. While it prevents the deep ball somewhat, it forces a 10 on 11 in the short to mid game. Our safety isn’t fast enough to play so deep. Leaves too much open.

Honestly I think Kizer has played a decent game. We need a kicker and WR that do what they are being paid to do.

At this point i wouod just let Kizer sling it.

There is calling safe plays and there are calling plays because you are afraid to let your QB throw the ball.

We are at the latter and it's deflating the team.

Let him chuck it and see what happens.

I see them totally wilting.

here's the thing, does Hue get canned during the bye, or did they do just enough in this game to make it seem like progress?

Wish they would stay in London . Honestly I could care less if this team leaves Cleveland . Having no nfl team is better than being subjected to this garbage year after year

The Browns team is a practice squad for the rest of the NFL to prepare them for the next week’s game.

I don't blame Hue so much. We have a QB who isn't very good at all, a group of receivers who can't catch well and a so-so starting RB = recipe for losing.

good bye London town
leaving on a plane with a frown
No hope in sight
Hue's coaching gives me fright
Jimmy's not mad
avoiding the feds pulling in his pad
Number 1 pick ours to lose
until that player makes us snooze
Stadium in Dec quarter full
Rather look for thick young lady to pull
Next year no hope in sight
I hate this team with all my might

We had time. We didn't need that timeout. We could have taken it on the next play. It doesn't take a timeout to call a Qb sneak. We have a big strong QB...it was the only call to make at that point.

I see I didn't miss anything. This is not an NFL team by any stretch of the imagination. Leave Britt in England. That would be a start.

Nothing good is happening until Haslam sells the team. I firmly believe that.

Oh well, at least the afternoon won't be wasted today. Or next Sunday for that matter. LOL

I hate zebras. Having said that, the refs are not the excuse for losing. They did look like they were being paid piecework by the flag today. Not in position several times. But we were stupid and gave them a chance to throw flags as needed, like 50+ yards that one drive in second half. Just anemic. Tale of two halves again. Horrible to watch.

Kizer's face was different in second half, lost his edge he had when he clicked more. And it predictably fell apart with us giving tp a score with under two minutes to go in first half.

No lead is safe with this secondary. The 3 & out club is alive and well and living in Cleveland.
