Im hearing CB Paul Oliver is heading to the Supp draft

Can our local Bulldog expert shine any light on this?


With Ahmad Brooks going for a 3rd....Im guessing a 3 or 4 would be needed for Oliver.....and I would love to see him on my team.

Scott Wright has him listed as the top 08' draft CB prospect and 7th overall. Prisco has him ranked as the 19th best overall for 08' and the 2nd best corner. Of course, rankings this far out are defiantely going to change quite a bit but that is still some high praise for the kid. Sounds like a 3rd rounder for him could end up paying off in a big way. Heck we need help at corner.. maybe Phil can drop a 3rd on the kid.

ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia senior cornerback Paul Oliver has failed to meet NCAA academic eligibility requirements for competition this fall and plans to petition the NFL for entry into the supplemental draft this summer.

Oliver’s situation does not preclude him from remaining enrolled in school. He was a regular starter last season and has started 15 games in his career.

“We’ll miss him for sure,” UGA head coach Mark Richt. “Of course, he could have made a decision to leave for the draft immediately after his junior season. He was aware there could be risks but he decided to continue in school and get closer to his degree. His best opportunity now to continue his playing career is through the supplemental draft coming up in July.”

I doubt the Browns go for it.

On a minor point, Romeo emphasizes intelligence on his defense (Williams, Davis, Wimbley, E. Wright, Jackson, not playing rookies...), and this guy didn't make eligibility.

More importantly, we don't have a 1st next year, and Sav will probably want to keep that third in case one of the RBs or a NT prospect falls a bit in the 1st to trade up.

Plus, we have three CB draft picks that haven't even laced them up for us yet. I think Minter is going to surprise some people.

what about for a fourth or fifth, people say his value is third which i could understand avoiding. but for a lower draft pick, this guy could be pretty good. i just don't know much about him. is he quick?

if he was meant to go first round he sounds good to go. some kids just can't do school. given you're almost made to pass all ur classes when ur in big-time D1 state school football but even so, it doesn't make him stupid. may be unmotivated academically, but that has little to do with the understanding of how to play the sport.

It's better than Ahmad Brooks who got kicked out of UVA

Seems to be a pretty interesting and good player...but

the Browns are now stacked at CB with a lot of young guys already

That said...in the 4th I would pull the trigger but I doubt he lasts that long

Paul Oliver is a pretty good CB... He has good size.. good speed. His awareness is also pretty good too... if the Browns get him some how, if they can, they would be set at CB for some time adding Wright in the draft...

I don't know much about the kid but a 5th for him seems to be a decent deal. However, we are a bit thinner with picks next draft and we do need to address the DL a bit more. So who knows, if we can get him for a good price I say Paul Oliver....C'mon down, (or up)
