Y-town if you would like to pm me the story I'd love to hear it..wouldnt consider it bragging at all. I love hearing good stuff..it keeps me grounded and makes me realize things in life are bigger then myself..ESPECIALLY when I get a little of track so to speak.

Mine was just hearing my waitress talking to another, and the other asking her why she was working another double shift, and hearing my waitress say it was so she could afford Christmas for her kids.

I left a pretty good tip, with a note that said "Merry Christmas", and saw her reaction through the window, from my car, and it was worth far more than the money I left. It probably wasn't what you left, but it was a fairly significant amount. (many times the cost of the meal) This wasn't some super expensive restaurant, and it was just me having lunch, but it was really great to be able to help someone like that. I could tell that she sure wasn't expecting it, that's for sure. laugh

I have always said that if I ever hit the big lottery, I would first give to my church, because they do so much good with what they have now .....and then I would take care of my family ..... then pay off my stuff ...... then leave the house every day with a couple grand .... and see whose lives I could quietly make better.

There was someone in the Youngstown area this past week, who put a 1 oz gold coin in the Salvation Army kettles in 2 locations, They called the Salvation Army to let them know, so it didn't disappear in the meantime .... but I think that if I had life changing money, it would be my responsibility to change lives with it. I would love to go out and get great service, and leave the waitress a $500 tip. I just think that it would be amazing to be able to do that regularly. I would love to hear a little kid talking to his mom about a toy, and hearing her say that they can't afford it, be able to quietly slip her an envelope with more than enough money for the toy in it.

I say "Bah Humbug" .... but I actually enjoy the season of Christmas. I hate the over-commercialization of it though. I love seeing the faces of people I buy for when they open gifts I got for them. It is just as great to think about how a gift might really help someone who is real need. I wish that I was still able to do some of the stuff I used to do, both financially and physically ..... and I really wish that I would have done more when I could have. I really should have done more, not even just the money side, but the volunteering side as well. I did some .... but man, I wish I would have done a lot more while I could have.

I hope that everyone will take time this holiday season to seek out someone in difficulty, or maybe even just someone who might be lonely during this time of year, and just do what they can to help. Be a Secret Santa ..... invite someone who lives alone, and who doesn't have family in the area, to Christmas dinner ..... donate time to the local food kitchen, or other organization that provides Christmas dinner to those in need ..... help out at the local food pantry ..... buy a bag of groceries for a family in need ....... just something to help someone else during this special time of year. I believe that the rewarding feeling is far greater than the money spent.

Man thanks for replying...there isnt an ounce of bragging in that story...My son told me the rent runs around 2500 a month..I wont say how much but it was for more then the month..her husband was close to being back on his feet.

When my wife and I didnt have 2 nickles to rub together we would fantasize about hitting the lottery and what we would do with it..well when we finally achieved some life changing income level...we didnt do anything on our list we talked about..funny how that works I guess.

People tend to get caught up in monetary values..Ive given things and done things that cost me nothing..and enjoyed it immensely.

Again thanks for sharing..

When I was a kid, after my father ditched his family, we moved back to YTown and were in pretty dire straits. One year, we got a knock on the door, and when we opened the door, there were probably 10 bags of groceries there. Maybe not that many, but it seemed like that as I was the kid who had to lug them into the house. rofl It was a really nice gesture on the part of ... someone. To this day I still have no idea who did that for us. It was a huge help though.

Many years ago, I somehow left home without my wallet one day, and put gas in my car. I went in to pay, realized I didn't have my wallet, and the guy behind me said "Don't worry about it. I got it." I offered to send him a check, but he told me to just pass it along to someone else in need one day. I have done so several times. It is just the right thing to do.

That must mean that someone in truly dire straits got yours.

Great story and wonderful thing you did

Others on here as well. Kudos

I started something a year or do ago I call "no more turning away". Yes after the
Pink Floyd song.

Each day I try to help someone. Typically a small thing. Maybe even
Just helping an elderly person reach something at a grocery store

The act itself is not important but it's more of
Not ignoring the person who has or may have a need

Many times just my asking is enough and I get
A "no I'm ok" response.

I think you have hit on the key to it all...

"Not ignoring the person who has or may have a need."

It is so easy to not see other people.
