Man did we dodge a bullet, not taking him in 2018. I do kinda feel bad for the kid. He's been dumped (cut/waived/traded) 4 times in 4 years.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/49ers...-in-four-years/

Josh Rosen's chances of making the San Francisco 49ers roster have come to an end. The 49ers waived Rosen on Tuesday as they trimmed their roster down to 85 players. In correlation with the move, San Francisco claimed cornerback Davontae Harris off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens.

The recent cut has been a setback for Rosen's chances of continuing his NFL career. He was signed off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad in December by the 49ers and was with the team for nine months, only to be beaten out by Nate Sudfeld for the team's No. 3 quarterback job.

Sudfeld didn't even play in the 49ers' preseason opener last week, with Rosen getting third-team reps over him. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said earlier this week that Sudfeld would get his opportunity for snaps in the team's second preseason game -- perhaps a sign of things to come for Rosen.

"I wanted to make sure Josh got some playing time," Shanahan said Monday. "I didn't want him to go in one series and then put the other one in. So he got the majority of that. So the next time that we get to our third guy, that'll be Nate."

The 10th overall pick in the 2018 draft by the Arizona Cardinals, Rosen lasted just one season in Arizona before the Cardinals jettisoned him to the Miami Dolphins in 2019. He only lasted with the Dolphins for one season before being waived. Rosen landed on the Buccaneers practice squad in September 2020 before the 49ers signed him off Tampa Bay's practice squad.

Of the 42 quarterbacks that have more than 500 passing attempts since 2018, here's where Rosen ranks among them:

Completion percentage -- 54.78% (42nd)
Touchdown passes -- 12 (42nd)
Passer rating -- 63.5 (42nd)
Yards per attempt -- 5.67 (42nd)
Win-loss percentage -- .188 (42nd)
The teams Rosen has played on are just 3-13 in his 16 starts. With this latest setback to Rosen's career, it's hard to believe he'll ever get the opportunity to resurrect his NFL career as a starting quarterback. Where Rosen ends up next will be intriguing, especially if the fifth team he plays for can be the one to tap into his potential.

We're entering territory where his name can start to circulate as one of the all-time top 10 busts. I'm sure there will be at least one more embarrassment as some team will think there is "hidden gold" because of his draft status.

I heard earlier this week that he was complaining about practice reps, so maybe a lot of this is "Josh Rosen, the person".

Meanwhile, Rosen: "You guys just made the biggest mistake of your lives!"

I have a football card (it's still a thing!)... Panini Phoenix

It has Baker, Allen, Rosen all on it, with a piece of game worn memorabilia and autographed. It's 1 of 10 cards produced.

I curse that Rosen is a part of that card instead of Lamar. It could have been like the Bron, 'Mello and Wade RC card.

Could be Darnold instead of Bake or Allen -- count your blessings! Besides, Mayfield and Allen will be top-tier for quite awhile (barring injury).

Ok, we don't need cheap shots. Sometimes we hit, sometimes we don't.

I am just glad we took Baker...the guy I wanted...I finally hit.

cant lie man this dude has not been given a fair shot.

look sometimes it just happens that way. some people end up in the perfect situation, and some people just get screwed.

but Rosen has an nfl arm and intellect to play the position.

In college he looked like he would be an accurate thrower.

He threw the ball really well. Had beautiful mechanics.

He lacked mobility and struggled on the move.

He played in a pro-set offense. Honestly, I thought he could be a good player.

He came to college as super high prospect.

He was considered very bright. But, there were doubts about leadership.

He has been horrible as a pro.

As Cleveland fans, we should know better than most that high pick QBs aren't guaranteed success depending on the situation they are going into.

It sucked that after his first year Kingsbury came in, and wanted to start over with his own guy. Then he goes to Miami where they have a new coach and new systems, and the next year pick Tua.

Had a chance to learn behind Tom Brady in Tampa. To add to his bad luck, he missed out on a SB ring because he chose to leave to sign with SF in late December when Jimmy G and Mullens got hurt.

But honestly, he came across as a spoiled, entitled little brat in most interviews and articles. You get out what you put in.

Wasn't he signed off the TB practice squad? If so, he didn't choose to leave.

Add: no, he was not. Thank you for the correction.

He still has to sign, which means he had to agree to go, or stay put.

I just want to give some credit to the Cardinals here. It is really rare for a team to admit a mistake this quickly and move on, especially at QB. And even though I'm not sold on Murray, that franchise is still in much better position today than if they had held on waiting for Rosen to magically become a leader and good NFL QB.

Cards cut ties quickly, and so has everyone else. That's part of the "dead giveaway" to me. Two years after being a high draft pick he was on his third team's practice squad.

There is a simple way to say it, and it is not flattery.

He may not have the mental makeup and dedication to the game to make himself a viable NFL QB.

It's Jeff George syndrome - Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane.

There will be no playoffs. Can’t play with who we have out there and compounding it with garbage playcalling and worse execution. We don’t have good skill players on offense period. Browns 20 - Bears 17.

Rosen needs to get on with his lifes work as PB
Would say. Before being drafted he never had to face adversity or failure
He was born into wealth. Never had to work
For anything.
Now that he has to prove himself
Hes softer than a Corbos cannoli

Not really. A lot of people thought that. People with more experience than people like you or I.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out for players. For QB's fit and supporting cast can sink the ship in a hurry.

I was right there with you. I don't remember if I said as much, but I wasn't wild on selecting the guy who tried to plant a flag in turf over the guy who was considered the most cerebral of the bunch and was operating within a pro-style offense.

None of us get paid to pick pro QBs, so none us should get too wrapped up (either way) on who does/doesn't pan out.

That said, I would LOVE to see a follow-up on Rosen with how's and why's related to his draft hype and the performance that followed. Was it his attitude? Teams he played for and surrounding talent?

IMO, he won't go down as some earth-shattering bust, but in a way (IMO) I almost think he should. He had all those hard-to-find traits/indications of successful pro QB.

How is this a topic. Who is Josh Rosen, oh I remember, but what year did he fizzle out. I thought we moved on from him as a discussion topic, two months before Baker was drafted. He wasn't ever a Brown.
I don't get it. Trace McSorley, I saw in a snap of preseason get 12 yards as the backup ravens QB, in a clearly the same play we always see,
seems all the wideouts go, Somewhere, (it's never on camera,
and then the pocket colappses, (on purpose) it appers,
then there is one open door, somewhere from in that collapsed pocket for the QB to squirt through

then all of a sudden the QB, this time it's Baltimore backup Trace McSorley,
always takes a curving arched outside run that ends at the sidelines

and it Gains 12 Yards on 3rd and 10, AGAIN! This time vs. the Saints preseason defense.

---------

It's a running theme, that has me way more worried, to think about than anything involving Josh Rosen. Not only do the Browns have a history that includes giving up rushing touchdowns to Josh Allen, of the Bills in 2019.

They Browns can't seem to have stopped a running quarterback out of the collapsed pocket against the Chiefs backup in 2020.

There were probably a couple of plays even with Trace McSorley, in the Ravens Browns 2nd matchup, while Lamar Jackson was in the locker room, that the Ravens intended to run the (pocket collapses but the designed QB run gets 12+ yards) play.

Read between the lines.... prima-donna comes to mind.

Rosen had a hot tub in his college apartment if I recall.

Johnny...or who I call JFF

I made my decision about JFF in his sophomore season in college. It was an away game (TCU?) where the Aggies were headed into student section end zone. The crowd was jeering Manziel when he scrambled in for a TD. He taunted the crowd with his "money fingers" gesture, for which he got a 15 yard penalty. As he was coming to the sideline, Coach Sumlin came onto the field to scold him for that action, and Johnny walked right past his head coach as if he wasn't there.

I knew in that moment I wanted nothing to do with JFF.

Dang, I wanted Rosen so bad. I remember watching the UCLA v USC game and being so impressed how his ball placement led receivers into YAC. At that point it was Rosen and Darnold for top qb and he outplayed Darnold by a mile.

On a side note, I also thought Ronald Jones from USC would be the top RB in the class. What a dummy! That’s not just a facepalm, but a full on smack. CleveSteve would be so ashamed of my prognostications.
