Cool. This means the league is growing.

I wonder if teams will play hal;f their games in one location, then flip to the other site for the remainer. That would still cut down on travel costs, which is why I think they went to one site for all the games.

Not only for players, it gets expensive to start packing and shipping equipment all over the country on a weekly basis.

CANTON OHIO HOSTS USFL FOR 2023 REGULAR SEASON

Pittsburgh Maulers & New Jersey Generals to kick off first game April 23 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium Fans can pre-register for affordable tickets in Canton via Ticketmaster or by visiting theUSFL.com Hall of Fame Village to again host North Division Playoff Game in late June and USFL Championship Game in early July

CANTON, Ohio (Jan. 25, 2023) – At a press conference here today, USFL and Hall of Fame Village leaders announced that Canton will be the host site for two teams during the upcoming regular season, as well as the North Division Playoff Game in late June and USFL Championship Game in early July. The announcement comes six months after the Hall of Fame Village hosted USFL postseason games during the professional spring football league’s first season.

“The USFL is excited that the Pittsburgh Maulers and the New Jersey Generals will practice and play games in Canton during the 2023 regular season,” said Daryl Johnston, USFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations. “The outstanding regional support we received during our first postseason from football fans in Ohio and Pennsylvania, including the great city of Pittsburgh, coupled with our successful partnership with the Hall of Fame Village, led to this moment.”

The Maulers and Generals will face off in Canton’s first regular season game on Sunday, April 23. The North Division Playoff Game and USFL Championship Game will also return to Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium with dates and times to be announced later. Fans can pre-register for USFL Canton game tickets via Ticketmaster to make a deposit for $25 and lock in priority access, or visit theUSFL.com for more information.

“After the incredible response from football fans during last year’s USFL postseason, we’re thrilled to expand our partnership by hosting regular season games in 2023,” said Michael Crawford, Hall of Fame Resort and Entertainment Company Chief Executive Officer. “The USFL is a fan-first league, so we’re creating a fun and affordable entertainment destination here in Canton where football fans can cheer on the Pittsburgh Maulers, New Jersey Generals, and other USFL teams while experiencing a wide variety of programming and activities throughout the Hall of Fame Village before and after games.”

-- more --

New Pittsburgh Maulers Head Coach Ray Horton, who was hired by the USFL earlier this month, sees this move to Canton in 2023 as an opportunity to build a regional fan base.

“Because I’ve been a defensive coach for both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cleveland Browns, I know how passionate football fans are in Western Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio,” said Horton. “As the USFL works to eventually move the Maulers into Pittsburgh, playing the 2023 regular season games in Canton presents an incredible opportunity for fans throughout the region to check us out and see first-hand the high-quality professional football being played in the USFL. My staff and I are working tirelessly to build a championship-caliber team, so we’re excited about having fans visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame stadium to have a fun time and hopefully become lifelong Maulers fans.”

While USFL officials said they remain committed to incrementally placing all teams into their namesake markets, expanding play in Canton with two iconic franchises continues building a regional fanbase, keeps the brand in the national consciousness, and strengthens the league’s partnership with the Hall of Fame Village in preparation to bring postseason games back to Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

The USFL is the first major professional spring football league in nearly 40 years to complete a successful inaugural season and return for Season 2. During the USFL’s 10-week regular season in 2022, all eight teams were hosted by the City of Birmingham, Ala. Last June during the playoffs in Canton, the league announced it would expand into more markets for the 2023 season. In addition to Canton hosting the Maulers and Generals, the USFL previously announced that the Birmingham Stallions and New Orleans Breakers will be hosted in Birmingham, and the Memphis Showboats and Houston Gamblers will be hosted in Memphis, Tenn.

“In 2023, the USFL is proud to bring high-quality and competitive professional football to Canton, Birmingham, and Memphis,” said Johnston. “We couldn’t be more excited for the kick off of USFL Season 2 in April.”

This league has the leadership and backing to be poised to have an actual shot to make it. It will be interesting to see how the NFL reacts moving forward. Are they going to view the league as competition, or some sort of feeder league?

Glad to see the USFL expanding. Now I’ll have a sport to watch this spring and summer. The nba is complete garbage and not worth my time. -I’d like to see it fold. MLB is uncompetitive and
Unwatchable as well. - Nothing but a big, bloated advertisement. I look forward to watching and supporting the USFL. Maybe even take the family to a game or two. This is great news.

I think of it more as a feeder. I think that if the USFL can bring in some big name commentators and coaches, its popularity will grow rapidly. I saw Michael Strahan pitching for the USFL -and this gives the league some credibility. Imagine Steve Young, Jim Kelly and the like stepping in for advertisements - then imagine if the could get a few notable commentators- Bradshaw, Namath, etc. It would be huge. I don’t think that the NFL will be threatened by the USFL , but the NBA and MLB will lose a chunk of their already diminishing businesses.

I think it would be smart for the NFL to think of it as a feeder league rather than competition. It doesn't interfere with the NFL season in any way. And for a very long time now people have wondered why it is the NFL doesn't have something like baseball with a farm system or a minor league to develop players. With the USFL they get the advantage of a developmental minor league while someone else pays the cost of it. That sounds like a win/win to me. As of mid December last year there were 21 players from the USFL already on NFL rosters.....

Is it wrong to hope for the return of the LFL?

Even if Ditka brings it back, I doubt it will do justice to its glory days.

DiNucci invoked his inner Mahomes.

Can they really call the UsFL football, b/c it has grown men...seem to, ... play defense worse than you'd find on a Jr. High field.
defense worse than a Jr. high field,
that is sort of like basketball with the hoop big enough around for a beach ball, or bowling where the pins are twice as wide and the lane half the length.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

This is when you know people haven't been watching. Many of these games have been low scoring. If anything the defenses in the XFL are ahead of the offenses. Here are the scores from week 2.......

Thursday
St. Louis BattleHawks 20, Seattle Sea Dragons 18

Saturday
D.C. Defenders 18, Vegas Vipers 6

Sunday
San Antonio Brahmas 30, Orlando Guardians 12
Houston Roughnecks 23, Arlington Renegades 14

Only two out of the eight teams scored more than 20 points.

I haven't watched the NBA in a long time, I watch the MLs somewhat.
actually,
The Usfl is not the problem, the real problem is that they want to pretend the usfl = real football.

actually / I'll warn everyone, there is probably an agenda to push the Usfl into the pretend reality that it = something which it really is not,
and the problem =
the end of that agenda is probably the NFL being a Flag football league. SPIT.

If they can get you to accept, the usfl, with it's lack of hitting and defense, as = to real football, then they will
try and take all hitting and defense out of the NFL and make it not worth watching either.

Go back to somebody in the year I979 and tell them that today, every car sold in the united states would have the exact same body shape because the insurance companies are controlling government policy, and no car could do a burn out, Ha.
and then tell me the insurance companies, or whomever, aren't trying to end real football in the united states today
and replace it with a non hitting
weakling fied version.
