This is really a bummer. I thought we would find a way for both sides to work keeping Nick around a couple more years

Yea, he couldn’t have been expensive. One of my main complaints about this front office and ownership is they don’t seem to have a clue about the fan base’s connection (or revulsion: Watson) with players. Maybe he doesn’t make the final 53 but it seems like they should have given him a shot.

That said, I hate the Texans but I have reason to root for them now. If he finds something like his old form, the Berry will look as bad as Joe Schoen.

I am happy with the backs we drafted. Best of luck to Nick as he tries to rebuild his career.

I don't blame Chubb for going to a team that doesn't have the Steelers on their schedule.

I think everyone wanted Chubb to remain a Brown. He pretty much embodied everything most of us look for in a Browns player. From on the field to off the field. I hate to see him go. I will certainly be pulling for him as his career carries on. But the writing was pretty much on the wall after watching the draft. The Browns know things I don't so I'll leave it at that. As much as I wanted Nick to remain a Brown the NFL is a business and I understand this owner and FO conducting it as such. They can't base their moves on emotions.

Chubb was the epitome of being a Cleveland Brown. The entire city loved him. He should have remained a Brown until he retired. Sometimes football can be more than just a business.

Saddens me to lose such a class guy who embodies everything i feel represents what the football team i love should be (but that team so often lets me down). Like JT and Baker since the return, will always wish them success with everything in their lives.

My frustration with this is that isn't this year the one where we really get to see how far his recovery will go?

You could consider it that way from your perspective. The way I see it is the team has been watching his attempted recovery ever since his injury. They have every frame of game film from his NFL and college career. As such, if anyone knows where he's at it would be the Browns. The outcome of the draft indicates they've known that for a while now. If they believeed he would be close to what he once was I don't think we would see all of this happening.

I could be totally wrong as the future plays itself out. But it would be hard for me to underestimate an organization that is so much closer and knows so much more about the situation than I do. They certainly have to know how unpopular this decision is to the fan base so I don't think they took making this decision lightly.

I've never played competitive sports on this level. But on the level I did play any time I had an injury I always felt I was back to my old self and ready to play much quicker than the reality of the situation. As a competitor it's only natural. But those who were in charge and without an agenda really knew. I'm sure the Browns wish Nick would be back to his old self. But if they felt there is any chance he would be they wouldn't have spent two of their higher round draft picks addressing the RB position.

Chubb deserved better. He was affordable to retain . He is a true leader .
Now this locker room lacks a true leader .
The Browns could have retained Chubb , drafted Judkins and then addressed
Another need like WR.
Funny he's good enough for a playoff contender but not the Browns

He's good enough to be signed by a playoff contender if he can pass his physical. That is no indication he can make the team or be a contributor to any extent.

I hope he does great if he is signed by the Texans.

I have to imagine that the Browns front office had all of the medical info and made their decision based on that, because they certainly knew what the fan reaction would be if he goes someone else and if his old self.

I would have loved for Chubb to come back and split the bulk of the carries with Judkins for at least this year. I understand the business of the game but don't always like it. I am not sure if/when Judkins would take off if Chubb would have been satisfied in a roll where he would get reduced carries, so it makes sense. I hope Judkins and Sampson are the Browns two man attack for next 5 to 10 years.

Running back is the position with the shortest shelf life in the sport with an average career length of ~2.5 years. Nick is well beyond that. Chubb has had multiple major injuries. Love the guy, but it's a young man's game, particularly at that position. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry last season with a long of 19 (Both career lows.) Didn't look like the burst and lateral agility were coming back. Maybe it will, but it appears a long shot to me. If we were looking like Super Bowl contenders, maybe we'd have brought him back. We're in more of a develop and build for the future phase to me.

I'm not sure he would have beat out either of the rookies or Ford (5.4 Y/A, 66 long last season.) Plus, Ford has returned kicks and may be spending time there again. If the board hadn't fell the way it did in the draft, there may have been a spot for Nick. Once we added two, it got hard to make the "math" work. I'm not sure he makes the Texans. Is not signing him worse than signing him and then cutting him? I'll always be sentimental towards Chubb. I think you've got to try to take it out of the equation as far as roster decisions, though.

If he doesn't make the cut in Houston, I'd snatch him up for the practice squad and a mentor role/injury insurance in a heartbeat.

I hope minkah fitzpatrick gets hit in the groin continuously for the rest of his short career. Dude killed any chance for Chubb to break the franchise record for yards by an RB.

That would have been no different than him sharing the carries with Mixon in Houston. What I think people should pay attention to is it seems the best offer Chubb had was a one year deal because that's what he signed. That's a typical show me deal. It appears no NFL team is convinced Chubb is back up to form.

Chubb didn't even get a chance to compete for the spot..Jimmy Haslam and Andy Berry decided they would "SELL" the roster spot to the individual who was willing to take the least amount of pay in 2025.

Ford took a paycut and was 'given' the roster spot ahead of Chubb...a new low for the Browns..selling roster spots to the lowest bidder.

Yes, working day to day with Chubb and watching his recovery or lack there of payed no part in the decision. That was satire BTW.

Channel 3 news said it was a $2.5 million dollar one year deal. With incentives, it could be up to &5 million. That kinda seems like a pretty decent deal for a man coming off those injuries. It just should have come from us.

I hope we don't regret this, and knowing Chubb, my money is on we will.

Good Luck Nick, you will always be a fan favorite around here.

The AFC South teams, except Jacksonville, have artificial turf.

I pray Chubb can play the whole season. At the very least, he does not suffer another major injury.

The part that hasn’t been addressed is, he received other lucrative offers. Everyone is dismissing one of those offers was probably from the Browns. I don’t think they just threw him aside, but from a business prospective, they finally had some good draft capital and they used it to get younger.

Personally, I think Chubb is playing for one more decent 2 year contract afte this one year… all 3 of those, he probably wants to be on a contender. I think this was Chubbs decision more so than the Browns. More power to him. I hope he gets his incentives, wins some playoff games AND the Browns improve with their younger roster. No one really needs to lose in this situation.

Nick comes back in 2-3 years to sign a deal to retire a Brown.

Well...they DID offer him a contract...so they must think he's viable. They just didn't want to PAY him...thereby keeping a cheaper player.

That could be. But you see, signing someone doesn't really mean all that much. Especially to a one year deal. It's what is commonly known as a "show me" deal. We have no way of knowing how his recovery has gone or where he is as being a productive RB in the NFL. You see, if Chubb doesn't make the 53 man roster it costs a team nothing to sign him.

I have no idea how all of this will play out. But if I had to venture a guess it would be that Chubb will play no more than a back up role to spell a starting RB. I don't think he's going to walk in there and take Mixon's place. You only get incentives if you play enough downs to reach them.

And don't get me wrong. Nick is my second favorite player since the Browns have returned. Second only to Joe Thomas. But if he were even close to the same player he was before the injury, the Browns would have paid him.

Good Luck Nick, you will always be a fan favorite around here.

Without knowing the guarantees and other specifics, it's hard to know what kind of deal it is. Agents usually try to make public the best light version (which is usually what the media initially has to work with.) If they can cut him and owe him nothing, it's not really that great a deal. (Looks like 2,075,000 is guaranteed-- Good for Nick)

If I were Chubb, I'm not sure the Texans OL would be the one I wanted blocking for me.

Throw in a first time OC and I'm not placing any bets.

I hope he does well. The pieces of info I have just don't seem to fit together to make that look likely to me. If hard work and dedication on Chubb's part were all it took, it'd be a lock. That might not be enough.

At the end of the day, the NFL wasn't convinced Chubb is all the way back from his injury... Almost two years removed from that injury, that is to be expected. Now, if he is fully recovered, he can and will surpass Joe Mixon, but if he hasn't, he is $2,000,000 better on the retirement fund. This is his last chance to get a final contract to close out his playing days. If he doesn't show out when he gets opportunities, his career is over. It's just too easy to find replacement RBs these days.

I love Nick and frankly, I hope he rushes for 100 yards every week since they aren't on our schedule this year. I hope he gets one more lucrative contract to close out a great career, especially since it could go to [censored] any day with his age and injury history and I know it isn't coming from the Browns. I wanted him back selfishly, but I am also very happy about the additions in this year's draft.
