I won't lay it all on DA, and everyone knows I'd prefer BQ at QB... at least until we see what he's got.
BUT last night everybody played bad.
The line got manhandled.
Lewis missed that handoff... DA put it in his breadbox.
The D was not improved.
WR's dropped passes that were catchable. (KW2 & Stallworth).
So... it's not ALL on DA. But he made his mistakes too.
I'm marking it off to preseason and I'll worry if they stink it up next game.
Game 3 is the dress rehearsal... If that is a repeat of last night THEN we all better get ready for the basement.

Show me those threads on the other players you mentioned? And then lets have a discussion on your and my contributions on those threads...
Then we'll call fair, well fair...
You won't find many.. there is an Alex Hall thread running at the moment... an Ali thread... and a Harrison thread if memory serves and another one of the DL as a unit... I haven't participated all that much in them (I have participated in the DL thread)...
Why? You ask... because who our #2 RB is... and who our backup OLB is... and who our #4 WR is isn't going to have any huge impact on our record... who our QB is, quite likely could this year an into the future.... Not to mention, if in week 4, you want to give Alex Hall a shot, then you put him in for a series or two and see how he does... you can't do that with the QB position... barring injury, mop up of a blowout, or the starter just getting yanked, there is no way to see what the back-up QB has... You can't just put him in for a series here and there to see how he responds.
As for the DL, I think we are playing (or at least will be when they are all healthy) the best ones... the question is how do we make them more productive, not who should we replace them with....
If you want to give me any position on the Browns where you think that starting the current back-up could quite possibly make this team better... and I'll be happy to discuss it.

Why I asked is clear, you confirmed my reasoning for the question. THX. I believe I did write lets talk about those other players... IMO, there is not a back up player on the roster that them starting makes the team better. What high quality defensive player do the Browns have? Would any garner PB consideration? The anwsers to those questions is the fundamental problem... We have very little proven talent on the D... The Browns D has 2 players that would start for any other team... Our secondary is below average @ best and so are the LB's... The D line is unproven and 67% of it is new... This does not bode well for the Browns at this point in time... It's preseason and the Browns D is young... The D is just not very good right now. Wright- not a good night, Pool and Jones not good either... Coverage communication and tackling... Did we line up LB's last night??? PeeeUUU. D-line occupying, pushing the pocket and presure on the QB not much and not really very visable... JH played well in his RB duties and pretty well on ST's... He had better make the team and get some increased PT/touches this year... Thats all I have time for now catch you later.

I'd add McDonald in there too, based on how he's played this preseason.

And D'Qwell Jackson... Not all of them could start for all teams but they could all start for a lot of teams... good teams...

Boise, to bring this full circle, we were talking about the QB and the comment was made about why so much attention is focused there in conversation... you wondered why we don't compare all of the other positions.. then you state that we don't have any backups that really could make the defense better.... So that is why we talk about the QB, because we do have a back-up who just might make the team better... So I guess that ends this installment of "As the Conversation Turns"..

But has DA really had a real opportunity and enough time, realistically, to demostrate he has or hasn't improved in his areas of concern? You keep leaning hard on tendancies... But you are really stuck on last year's tendancies...
And what pray tell should I be looking for improvement from? NEXT years tendancies?

You are right. I saw his weaknesses last year and I'm looking for improvement in those departments. Aren't we supposed to do that here? And yes, I'm one who believes talk is cheap and seeing is believing. I have "faith in God", not "people".
So you're right. I am trying to compare "last years tendancies" with what I'm seeing this year. And since neither of us are clarvoyant, that's all we have to go on up to this juncture.

At this point in time... Blind is not the issue... Realisum, realistic expectations and time frames are true issues.
I doubt this FO is looking all that much at "time frames", unless you're looking at "this season". They have put themselves in the perfect position to "commit" right after this season. Will they do that? Who knows. But they sure have set things in place to indicate they will.

You don't seem to see any other view or perspective than your own. You seem to have chosen to focus on ONLY the areas that you deem needing improvemnet on... I don't remember even fairly recently, reading a positive DA reply here from you...??? There has not been suficient time for the wounds you elude to, to heal...
How's this................................The one pass where he rolled out and threw looked good. Now why don't you tell me what you've "seen this pre-season" that looks so good to you? His completion percentage? His "scoring drives"?
Hopes, wishes and wants are fine. But you are the one speaking about "reality". And reality dictates we only beat "one team last year above .500".
Now I'm hoping he does improve greatly! My "hopes and expectations" aren't as high as many. Just because I'm looking for "proof", doesn't make me a bad guy IMO

I really expect that after a full week of practice with the 1's, Quinn will look pretty sharp. I like the kid.. He's got his head screwed on right and the way he's handled being the second banana has been nothing short of tremendous..
Obviously, if he does a good job, it bodes well for the Browns, but more than that, I want him to do well because I think he's a good kid.. You can't help but want to root for the guy.. I know I can't help it..

Well...
I'm disturbed to say the least.
Even when he had time he showed the same deficiencies as last year.
We're back to square one, with evaluating him, IMO.
What happened to Family Night?

Sorry man, had to bust your chops on that one.
Live action is the only way to see what a player will do. The face of adversity tells all. Some players don't look great in practice, but on game day, they show up. And visa versa.
I just hope we aren't "back to square one" for too long.

It's posts like this one that made Jaft (I'm sure most of you remember him lol), finally snap on Browns fans.
I can tell you FOR A FACT, that Jaft ( a very close friend of mine ) has the very same issues and concerns about DA as Ammo has stated and as I have stated.
He needs to "be sold". And nothing this year has done that. And the end of last season created those questions. So your post holds no merrit in that regard.................
