I haven't shed tears from a news story, as long as, I can remember. For some reason this one is tearing me up. I have a three yr old daughter, and I just can't fathom, why.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- The father of a young girl who died of exposure had knocked her unconscious because he was angry, then took her outside in subfreezing temperatures and left her there, police said before the man's arraignment Thursday.

Nyia Miangel Page, who was about to turn 2, was found dead Sunday on a wooded knoll about a 10 minute walk from the family's home.

Tiny footprints in the snow suggested she had gotten up and wandered around before she died, police said.

Her father, William Lorenzo Page, 23, of Braddock, was arrested on charges of criminal homicide, kidnapping, false reports and simple assault. He did not have an attorney in court Thursday morning, and was jailed without bond.

Page told police he woke up early Saturday and found the girl awake and playing near a mirror in the hallway, according to the criminal complaint. He said he got mad when the girl wouldn't go back to bed, so he hit her so hard she hit her head and was unconscious, the complaint said.

Page then took her outside wrapped in a blanket and left her, police said.

An autopsy determined Nyia died of hypothermia, but the Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide because investigators said it was unreasonable to assume the child got to the wooded location alone.

The site was about a 10-minute walk from her home, a trek that would have included climbing 17 snowy steps up to a wooded knoll.

Nyia's family reported her missing Saturday morning after another child alerted them that the toddler wasn't in her bed.

Nyia's mother told police she last saw the girl after Nyia tried to crawl into bed with her parents about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The mother told police she put the youngster back into her own bed in an upstairs room.

Police, emergency crews and bloodhounds searched in 20-degree temperatures for most of two days before finding the little girl's body.

As a parent, this is completely unfathomable. I can't imagine getting THAT angry with a kid of ANY age (much less a 2-year old). Wow.

I read a story yesterday about a woman that gave birth at a hotel and just threw the baby away like it was trash That pissed me off so much I couldn't post it,, some people seriosuly need to get their ass beaten sometimes.

The thought of a small child freezing to death just brings tears to my eyes

Yeah man I know. If you think about how much being cold sucks and being a helpless kid out there, man When I read she was wlaking around too and prob collapsed,,I want to kill that guy

My daughter is 2 and though being in the "terrible 2's" and pissing me off somedays, no way I would hurt her. Nothing she can ever do deserves any kind of pain outside of a spanking maybe.

Very sad image indeed. Words just can't sum up my thoughts. I think I'll tuck my kids in one extra time tonight. Sometimes I wonder if there's any hope for this world...

Of course there is. Because the good and loving parents far outweigh the monsters like this.

unbelievable. It makes you wonder how the human race can be so incredible to one another and at the same time be capable of doing things which are unfathomable.


there is no way any taxpayers money should be wasted on keeping this POS alive, he probably wont even make it to trial if his inmates get wind of this.

You're right, it's just these stories seem to be on the news every night lately. Just in the past couple hours here in NY, 2 kids died in a fire that was started ouside of their bedroom, a highschool kids who was missing was just found dead and two kids were stabbed trying to protect their mother from their father. Of course that's a small percentage, it's just very sad.

Wow this is terrible. How can someone do something like this to a kid? This is almost as bad if not worse than the Marcus Fiesel case.

btw, what's going on with the Marcus Fiesel(sp?) case? I've been in Columbus the last 6 months but have an interest in seeing his foster parents rot.

It is cases like this that sometimes make me forget about the whole "justice" thing and being no better than the criminal and blahblahblah... As the saying goes, "Never go to bed angry, stay up and plot your revenge."

I would like this guy simply sentenced to life in prison with no chance for parole in a prison outside of Pittsburgh, and every year during Jan/Feb/Mar there should no heat in his cell. The temp should get just to a level where it won't kill him but each and every year for the rest of his life he should be reminded of what he did.

I've been called a "doom and gloomer" but with stories like this, it really shakes your belief in society...

As a parent of a 7 and 3 year old this sickens me to no end. This guy deserves to be stripped naked, hosed down, and thrown in Lake Erie and left for dead.. Un-real..

So it took Pittsburgh police 2 days to find someone that was only a 10 minute walk away?

This would have a lot to do with it. A 10 minute walk can be quite a bit of woods. Depending on the terrain it could definitely take a couple of days....

This guy should be dropped off in Anarctica in the middle of winter with only the shirt on his back.

It is beyond my ability to comprehend how anyone can do this to a child, especially their own.

I have a 4 year old son... I am 26 and I can honeslty say that I have never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever once thought of hurting my son. Even when he didn't once sleep thru the night for the first 2 years of his life. I think this thing ( I say thing b/c no one could be a human and do this) should be tortured to every great extent possible... I mean every way possible!!!! Especially to read that there was footprints around it brought tears to my eyes... I am disgusted!

Okay, I've held off as long as I can.......Can you imagine the girls surprise when "daddy" got upset cause she got out of bed? Can you imagine what went through her head, even at 2, when she awoke in a "woods"? Can you imagine her screaming for mom and dad? Can you imagine the fear she had, the pain she felt, and the hope she had that mom or "dad" would save her?

At this point in time, it doesn't even bring tears to my eyes, it brings RAGE!

OMG! That is horrible. I hope he rots in hell for this. I'm sick after reading that story. That poor little girl.

This is so heartbreaking...I can't even bring myself to imagine how she felt all alone out there....this is just awful...
