And a great QB combined with a top 10 scoring defense wins Super Bowls.

I disagree.

A great D doesn't get beat very often.

Agree to disagree.

The way football is becoming I would take a great offense.

Vince Young beat Ohio State's D back in '05 in one of the best games I've ever seen. OSU's D that year was probably the best in the country.

Cam Newton went all the way through the best defenses in the SEC last year without fail.

I think especially in college football even more than the pros, good offense beats good defense. Too much of an advantage.

Like I said, we saw 2 really good defenses last night, but it didn't help that both teams were incapable of good QB play. Made the defenses look better.

I'll take a great defense over a great offense in the NFL though. Even with the rules, I think the great defenses can beat the great offenses. Players get more time to prepare, watch tape, etc..

For example:

Tom Brady went from being a guy who had pretty average stats, but won 3 super bowls. He morphs into this touchdown passing machine, their defenses gets worse, and they haven't won any hardware.

I do understand how some non SEC fans are tired of always seeing the SEC hoist the trophy, and understand them not getting in is about the only way the SEC team won't hoist the trophy at games end.

with the current string, I want to see a SEC lose in the championship game. it will feel hollow otherwise.

it would be interesting if Ok-State and Stanford are undefeated if LSU does lose 1 game to see what happens. personally, I think Ok-State is going to lose a game though (that defense will let them down if someone can catch their offense on a bad day)

If Oklahoma State or Stanford goes undefeated, they'll be in over LSU, simply because they are an undefeated major conference team (Yeah, I think a Stanford win over Oregon would make them jump Alabama).

However, Oregon beats Stanford, and Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State, and Alabama finishes the rest of the year without another loss, I bet you see a rematch for the National Title game.

Of the undefeated teams left (excepting Houston), I think Oklahoma St. will lose before Stanford or LSU.

I would love to see Stanford vs. LSU. Really see what Luck is made of.

I'd also love to see Stanford vs. Oklahoma St. just to see if there can be more than 200 points scored.

you might be right, but it would be wrong. I hate the idea of needing to beat a team twice in the same season (advantage almost always is to the team that lost when teams are close to even). I hate the idea of not letting another conference have a shot (I felt this way before the #1 OSU v. #2 Michigan game too when there was talk of a rematch).

if that all happens, then heck, I'd rather throw Boise in there and make them prove they can go against a truly elite defense (be a fun finale for Kellen's last college game at least).

The difference between the Ohio State/Michigan year and this year is this ...

That year, a lot of people believed Ohio State was the #1 team in the country, but it wasn't CLEAR that Michigan was #2. Michigan was in a group of about 3-4 teams that people thought MIGHT be the second best team in the country.

There is no 3-4 teams this year. It's OBVIOUS that LSU and Bama are the two best teams in the country, and I don't think many people would argue that.

That is what makes me think there's a potential for a rematch.

yeah, plus if alabama wins, then you have this argument about how lsu did it at bryant denney and how that means more then neutral ground and blah blah blah.

I disagree completely.

Both offenses left a lot of plays on the field. It wasn't Steelers Ravens out there on defense.

LSU's QB situation is pathetic. Alabama's is not much better.

I think Oklahoma State, Stanford and Boise would beat both those teams on a neutral field.

Heck I think Oklahoma would as well.

Sure there's about a dozen NFL quality athletes out there on both those SEC teams. But they sure weren't playing with much cohesion and it was a sloppy night for both sides.

Just a pathetic game at times.

LSU wins a National Title game against any of those teams by 2 scores.

The only way we get an entertaining Title game is if there is a rematch.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with a rematch, but they are BY FAR the two best teams in the country.

No one else is even close.

QB play in that game was atrocious. Yes both defenses are very good, but I wouldn't want any of those 3 QB's that played on my side in a big game.

those are the 2 best defenses in the country, hands down.

but, you never know what is going to happen in a 1 game setting that is 30-45 days after the last game played.

so, it's tough to say any team would beat another by 2 TDs guaranteed. I've seen the Buckeyes shock the Canes, the Horns shock the Trojans, and the Gators shock the Buckeyes (though I thought that would be a close one - obviously not so much)

personally, i'm cheering hard for the Cardinal this weekend because I selfishly want to see what Luck can do against that ridiculous Tiger secondary.

Maybe so, but I disagree with a rematch just as I was when people were screaming for a OSU/Mich rematch.

Bama can't be better than 3rd in the SEC if everything holds.

the most interesting scenario to me would be what SEC team gets into SEC-title game if Arkansas pulls the upset on LSU (assuming they take care of business against MissSt and Tenn, which they should as those might be the 2 worst SEC teams this year besides Ole Miss)

if that happens, then we have the Tx/OU/TxTech situation from a few years back w/ 3 1loss teams. I remember the SEC having a better way to determine the winner, but do not remember what that was.

also, it would be incredibly entertaining to see if a 1loss SEC team gets in over OkState or Stanford if they are both undefeated (I almost assume at this point OkieState is going to lose a game though - and we'll know on Stanford this weekend).

If the Browns and Toledo played 10 times, what would Toledo's record be?

I wonder what the effect of us having Jordan Shipley would have on Colt...

He's an exceptional Slot guy...

And Colt is obviously comfortable with him...

Adonis Thomas (Toledo) is ridiculous...

I don't know if he translates to the NFL at all, but he'll be worth a look see...

Agreed - best back at UT since Chester Taylor. Whoever takes him in the draft will be getting a good all purpose back.

And the Toledo defense, if you can call it that, is just wore out. They've played through injuries all year but the recent suspension of Bobo Rancifer seems to have been the straw that broke the camels back. Players are now playing out of position - plus when your kick coverage unit is an abomination, and it has been all year - you're doing those stupid pop up kicks and giving up a short field literally every time it's not going to end well.

All that plus the team has had no bye week. They got three extra days before the NIU game and will have three extra days before the next game which will be played next Friday - but a whole season of no bye week is also catching up to them. In fairness though, I should add that Carder and Harnish have been two pretty darn good QB's the last couple weeks.

At least I get to watch offense from one of my two football teams.

I am impressed with this Geno Smith kid from West Virginia.

He is hanging in the pocket and delivering strikes downfield, even with people hanging all over him. This is the first game I have seen him play, but he has gone 23-34 for 282 and 1 TD. (through the 3rd quarter) He is playing Cincinnati, so he's not playing some national powerhouse, top 10 defense, but he does a lot of things right from what I have seen. (and Cincinnati is 7-1 on the year) He appears to have nice accuracy, and good pocket presence. He's just a junior .... so with another year of seasoning, he might be a good one.

As High as Ok State has been playing, this only leads me to believe they are going to lose to OU even more...

I'm voiting for a Bosie State/Houston NC game
