Too many folks are wanting to jump at every word which revolves around this sale. Gotta let the damned process play itself out.
This was the problem I had with Lerner making the statement/announcement when he did.
On the other hand I could see him also wanting to prepare the team and the fans for events to come, but man that just leaves open much uncertainty ... hence my problem.
Mac ... The NFL has a protocol that needs to be followed and that is why we wont hear from Jimmy Haslam or any other members of his group.
It seems to me that the powers that be in the NFL comity (?) handling the sale of new ownership could also give an allowance to the protocol in this instance, if for nothing else then to allow the Browns to get on to the business of football. If it's true that they helped broker this deal, then could they not also be the conduit for questions and more importantly answers?

I get your point.. but my point was, there are only a select few people who would get nervous and have it potentially trickle down to impact play on the field... it's not going to affect the play on the field if the head of accounting is nervous, or the assistant to the marketing director, or the secretary in the ticket sales office... As long as Holmgren, Heckert, and Shurmur can remain calm, I don't see a problem.

Wow ... Lerner got more than $1 billion ..... and it's been reported all along that he was only selling 70%. Randy, thanks for all of your efforts and hard work. You did everything you could to try and make the Browns the winner. You never skimped on spending money, and you never stopped trying. For that you have my personal thanks and sincere gratitude.
Now, having said that, it's about damned time. Lerner, for all his efforts, did nothing but pick loser after loser after loser resulting in us being a bottom-feeder. I'm excited for a new owner, because frankly, he can't do any worse.

This is not uncommon in sales of other businesses. How the buy out is structured can vary from case to case.
Now can we expect to hear from "Jimmy"?

The one last lingering thought I will ALWAYS have about Lerner.
The man was blown away in an interview with Eric Mangini. So much that he made the decision and had no other interviews.

I'm for what ever makes this franchise stronger ... if we are to be married at the hip with that franchise and it makes us stronger for it, then I'm all for it.
Anyways I don't see how this can be a bad thing? Other then I miss my little town of Austinburg Ohio, before the truck stops moved in and took over, in that it was a bad (poorly planned and thought out) infrastructure, that is bad for both truck and car traffic a like. 
I moved out to the country to get away from all of that 
To be fare to Jimmy and Flying J ... it was Pilot who really messed things up and Flying J across the interchange was not owned by them back when the Pilot stop was put in. Back then however we as customers could expect price competition (we also had a BP back then) and now there is no such animal.

Schefter tweeted that the sale is now complete and that Randy Lerner sold the team to Haslam for in excess of $1 billion.

I should point out that I was being (mostly) facetious. I don't really care what the stadium is called, though I do like having one of the few (and the last in Cleveland) not named after a corporation.

Try getting off the freeway heading west on 90, there is no light and turning left (south) is a nightmare and an accident in weighting ... also turning south (left out of Pilot) is another as you are trying to get out not only against traffic heading and exiting south, but the trucks coming out just south of the car stop. It's a real mess imo and also I remember when it didn't take 15 minutes to gas up, before those two giants moved in.
A service station used to carry quarts of oil, but at Pilot, they only sell it by the gallon containers
btw all roads south lead to Austinburg and so it effects the majority of our residents.
In retrospect and imo they should have done two things differently. They need to put a light at the north exit ramp off of rt 90 and also rerouted the trucks coming from Pilot to the next rode just south [Clay st.] of the truck stop witch now has a light anyways.

It's just a minor technicality. Haslam already owns part of a NFL franchise and is in the inner-circle. It's just a matter of getting all of the owners in one spot at the same and voting.

That's pretty much how I feel. I think he just let things linger too long. Hiring a president should have taken place a long time ago. It seemed like he always had us fans in mind when running the team, but his heart was never truly in it.
I wish him the best with Aston Villa and with his family. He's good people. His family are good people. Generous people.
As far as Mr. Haslam goes, let's get going on this. I like everything I have read about him, I actually like that he had a stake in the Steelers, maybe he or his people saw how things were run, and can bring some of that over to Berea.
I like that he played football in college. Doesn't make him an expert, but at least we know this guy likes the sport, and it seems like he is here to win and to build something that people can be proud of.
What a great time to buy in as well. September starts a whole new era. Brandon Weeden, Trent Richardson, Jimmy Haslam. I just get this feeling that the movement we have all been waiting for will start, even if it's slowly. I think he will bring the presence that Randy never had.
If he's going to clean house, which I don't think he will, he has to do it before season's end. I don't think we can have another situation like we did with Holmgren/Mangini. If he wants to go in a different direction, pull the band-aid off at once.
I hope we keep Heckert, and I hope we give Shurmur a fair chance.

Yes there is that little issue of technicality of a vote, but I think that it's probably a forgone conclusion/formality.
I hope that the Comish will ask for a special meeting to seal the deal.
