Texas law permits an "offer of judgement" when a person just wants to cry "uncle" but a settlement number can't be agreed upon. If that offer is refused, and the court awards much less, the plaintiff is responsible for the defense's legal fees from the point of the offer forward. This makes the plaintiff put skin in the game if they are dragging things out with an unreasonable demand.
