…. We gotta not get that guy!!!

He made Njoku look like a great blocker. The experiment is over.

Well that didn’t last long. Haha.
Posted By: BpG Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 02:55 PM
Lol I think I saw him on only one play, he looks like he had cement feet, stiff as could possibly be trying to run a route and then fell down. We can end this ever being a thing now.
Posted By: PortlandDawg Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 02:56 PM
I guess it worked in so much as it kept the press from being all up in Lawrence’s business all camp. It was all Tebow all the time.
Posted By: Dave Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 02:59 PM
He tried and failed at the highest levels of two sports - no shame in that. He remains one of the greatest college football players ever. I wish him well.
Posted By: Milk Man Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 03:19 PM
Completely predictable and unsurprising.

Sold some jerseys though!

I heard an NFL owner once say, "“We live in a marketing world,”. wink
Posted By: Ballpeen Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 04:44 PM
Sorry to hear, but pretty much expected. A bit disheartening to see people laughing, but to each their own.

I still think he was a coach. There were no NFLPA rules against players like camp Austin Baker, practicing together
but there are NFLPA rules limiting the time coaches can practice with players.

So if a Rookie #1 overall pick is going to be practicing at a players only camp, then if you insert someone like Tebow, who may have a veteran understanding of the offense, not only that but a way to break down what the defense is doing as another qb's set of eyes in the huddle
Then that can help #1 Trevor Lawrence on his learning journey, by being a coaches voice right there in the huddle, for the past 6 weeks of summer since draft day.

That's all it was ever supposed to be, I'd bet.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 05:10 PM
I don't think the laughter is so much about Tebow being cut. I think the laughter is pointed more towards the fact that some people actually believed you could take an NFL former QB, who is 34 years old, hadn't played in the NFL in nine years..... Could suddenly be switched to TE, a position he's never taken a snap at in the NFL before and be successful at it.

Just to read that written out sounds totally nuts!

I like what Urban Meyer did and accomplished at OSU, but it makes me wonder what exactly his "issues" were when he left and if he is truly recovered from them.
Posted By: Milk Man Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 05:15 PM
Correct.

The Jags wanted to create some buzz. They sold a bunch of jerseys and maybe even some season tickets.

There was never a chance Tebow was going to make the team. Seemed obvious from the get go.

Growing his resume.

And stay down.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Tebow cut - 08/17/21 05:42 PM

He tried.

I doubt any team would have given him a chance outside of Urban.

Great college player. Not good enough for the pros.

Happens to many.

He will be fine. His name and reputation will get him opportunties at other things.

Most likely a college analyst or broadcaster.

Exactly. But some people get their feelings hurt when anything negative is uttered about one of their faves.

Exactly. I honestly think he may have been successful as a TE or H-Back type player, but he would have had to transition a long time ago, not at 34 after being out of the NFL for how many years.

He'll be 35 by this time next year and we all know what that means..

Putting Tebow out there was a brilliant move by Meyer for this exact reason. I'm surprised he didn't keep him until the final cut.

Tim Tebow is not a great football or baseball player, though he is far better than I ever was at those sports. But he builds hospitals in the third world, he throws parties for disabled kids and he sets an example all of our kids should follow. He is a great man.
It’s disturbing and weird that people hate him.
Posted By: archbolddawg Re: Tebow cut - 08/18/21 03:21 AM
Nice post. Most on here hate him because of his religion and his political stance. They ignore what he does for others.
Posted By: PrplPplEater Re: Tebow cut - 08/18/21 03:36 AM
Most people don't hate him. They hate the cult-like hysteria surrounding him. He's a terrible football player and has garnered fame & notoriety far above his abilities.

He's basically the Kim Kardashian of "athletes." His fans will argue adamantly against this comparison.

The religious aspect was a marketable selling point.

He'll do well in life, financially.

I've never understood the hate for him.. Seems like a decent guy all the way around..
Posted By: oobernoober Re: Tebow cut - 08/18/21 01:06 PM
I also think a lot of the cult-following/hating went hand-in-hand with the media fawning over him like they did. Much of the hubbub around him in his first stint in the NFL boiled down to him getting overdrafted (not his fault) and the media creating its own little circus while he was starting even though it was clear that the running game and D were the ones that carried that team.

Can't argue with that, but is the "cult-like hysteria" come from Tim or the media?

Let's be fair to how it began as well... he came into the league and started ripping off an incredible amount of come-from-behind victories that culminated in a walk-off overtime TD to beat the Steelers in the playoffs.

"Tebowmania" was born because of what he did on the field. It's the media that started following him around like a puppy... Leading to "I'm so sick of hearing about Tim Tebow".

I think a lot of us sports fans grew weary because we knew he didn't have the skill-set to back it all up. Who wants to hear about an average player in every news cycle? I guess after a while, we shift the focus of our frustration to the player himself, even though the media is driving all the narratives.

It comes from the people that keep propping him up with things like "I don't get all the hate for him" when people are simply talking about how bad he is at football. They want to point out all these other factors that have zero bearing whatsoever on football or sports notoriety and hold them up as reasons people shouldn't "hate" on him (a.k.a. point out that he's bad at football).

Yes, the media creates the headlines, but the people that slurp it up are what is the problem.

That goes for just about everything not just football.

Laughing right now, because the last several posts could have just as easily been about Baker. The opinions of NFL fans have been shaped by the media's narratives. Nothing to do with the football player.

Well you know how it is. Some people can't separate religion and politics from their football.

Tebow is a great human being but a crappy football player by NFL standards.
