Tight end Austin Hooper was not on the field Friday during the portion of Browns practice open to media.
The team has yet to disclose a reason for the starter's absence.
Meanwhile, defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson returned to practice Friday after sitting out Thursday with an Achilles injury.
Right guard Wyatt Teller (calf) and linebacker Jacob Phillips (knee) remained sidelined.
On Wednesday, coach Kevin Stefanski said it would be difficult for Teller to play Sunday when the Browns (4-2) visit the Cincinnati Bengals (1-4-1). Stefanski said Chris Hubbard would start his second consecutive game at right guard if Teller were ruled out, a decision expected to become official later Friday.
Hooper has 22 catches for 205 yards and a touchdown this season. Rookie Harrison Bryant, David Njoku and Stephen Carlson are behind him in the tight end pecking order.
On Friday, the Bengals ruled out starting running back Joe Mixon (foot) and starting cornerback Will Jackson (concussion).
Mixon leads Cincinnati with 119 carries for 428 yards (3.6 average) and three touchdowns to go along with 21 catches for 138 yards and a TD. Jackson had an interception against the Browns in Week 2, a 35-30 win for Cleveland.
