Fitting that our season ended due to the refereeing NONE call of a Helmet to helmet hit by the defender. An obvious penalty in front of several refs easily to see. which would have put us on the 6 inch line first and goal!

I thought our QB played great. We got a keeper that is for sure. He made some amazing throws into some tight windows.

Our defense showed its lack of talent but also its lack of discipline in the first half as we only were able to have the ball THREE TIMES the entire half - the rest of the time it was the Chiefs moving the ball. We were terrible on third down.

In the 2nd half different story and we started to pound the smaller Chiefs team on both sides of the ball. Not a pretty sight but Mahomes running for a first down was clobbered with a legal hit and he was rendered - knocked out like many of Mike Tyson opponents in his early days. Just knocked out silly and could not stand up. I was if this kid comes back in the game they should fire the entire staff of the Chiefs. He is done.

Quite frankly I thought he was done much earlier as he damaged the tendon to his toe as was never the same afterwards. That was late in the 2nd quarter. Hill on the Chiefs is so good he is who Metcalf would be for us in this era as he was too early. But hats off to that kid he was hurting us single handidly, well add Cleveland fan Kelce as the two were an amazing duo.

Speaking of Kelce I never saw a TE break the ankles of a CB of the caliber of Ward as he made a cut inside and Ward fell to the ground. I believe that was in the first half.

Hats off to Blake Hance who came for an injured Lamm, who came in for an Injured Wills on the first play of the game. But Hance who played RG last week was playing LT and actually did an outstanding job considering. No where as close as Wills was but still did a good job when we were pounding the Chiefs that 2nd half. Can't give him and our OL Coach Callahan the deceased husband of the B&B owner in the great Western movie Destry rides again.

Offense outside of those two drops by Chubb in the first half they all played well and were in another dimension when we had our backs to the wall and had to play well!

I couldn't come to the board or talk Browns football with anyone as we should have fullfilled our destiny and I truly thought we were going to the Super bowl as those Bills looked awful and Josh Allen looked like he did his first years and not the QB he has shown us all season. Luckily Lamar played his worst game and guess what happens to running QBs which is what Lamar is as he sucks as a passer - I can care less what his stats say....I watched him a lot and he sucks as a passer. Well anyways they get hurt as he did - he got hit more vs Bills then ever before.

So I had us going into the Super Bowl...Now that we are out of it, I see the Packers going all the way.

Man it sucks to end our season -- Thank you Browns you all played great and gave it your all. Too little too late maybe in this game but we played good enough to win. THANK YOU all Players and Coaches.

Here is to Continuity - For the first time CONTINUITY will be achieved. We will continue with our O and with our D we will upgrade and D will get the services of a very talented Safety in Delpit. The O will get the services of OBJ. Hopefully Berry will add some stud from FA and we can pick up a Stud Defender - only if a standout OL can't get enough of them - Or possibly the best TE out there. outside of that - Hope we go all out on Defense.

Love all you Browns fans. We have stuck together with our team in all these years. Finally we have a Franchise QB and a coaching staff that can get the most out of our players. Take care guys. I will do my best to stay alive and come back for next year. My heart is getting bad. My weight has skyrocketed with mostly water weight. Went to the hospital 5 times this year because of dangerous levels on water weight.
My infraction is around 15 - and a life saving procedure keeps getting denied by my insurance company. Those idiots claim its just an experimental procedure....this is a know nothing GP hired by the Insurance company telling some of the best Cardio Doctors in the world (at St. Francis Hospital) that the procedure they are doing by the hundreds is EXPERIMENTAL...and yet published reports say otherwise. I rant cause I might not be around any longer. And I so want to see my Browns win a Super Bowl among other things. I fear that my children and Grand children will see the end of the world as that is where we are heading to as this pandemic does not show an end. Chaos will follow, I hope we will have Football. The socialists wishes football to end cause its an American game they instead wish Soccer to take over. I'm telling you all they will push it on us and try to end FOOTBALL!

Later guys...God Bless you all!

Not being snarky towards tab. Legitimate question. Would it have been at the 6 inch line? If the flag is thrown we do not take the play, because it's KC ball. So the penalty would have been from the line of scrimmage, wouldn't it?

Continue fighting the insurance guys. Sometimes they just try to wear you down. Keep on the docs to continue appealing and submitting the prior authorizations. Thoughts and prayers....and you'll be here next year to see this thing thru.
Yeah thats a good question

That's what I'm thinking. I feel like I know most of the rules, but is there a definite protocol? I feel like protocol is take the play and tack on the penalty, or toss the results of the play and penalty is enforced from original LOS. Results of the play was KC ball.

I'm gonna hit up the rule books and try to get an answer...
Posted By: FATE Re: What I saw Final Browns game vs Chiefs - 01/19/21 05:35 PM
Hmm, I can't find anything specific to "run after catch", so I'm assuming this rule (for lack of any other clarification on the page) would apply to this situation, since Higgins is a "runner" once he has completed protocol for a catch. So, basically, possession would be awarded to the offense inside the 1 yard line, once the half-the-distance penalty was assessed.

FOUL ENFORCEMENT ON RUNNING PLAY WITH POSSESSION CHANGE
Article 13 When a defensive foul occurs during a running play (3-27-2) and the run in which the foul occurs
is followed by a change of possession, the spot of enforcement is the spot of the foul and ball reverts to
offensive team. See 14-1-12- Exc. 5.

Exceptions:
(1) When the spot of a foul is in advance of the spot where the offensive player lost possession, the spot
of enforcement is the spot where player possession was lost and the ball reverts to offensive team.
(2) When the spot of a foul by the defense is at, behind, or beyond the line of scrimmage, and such foul
incurs a penalty that results in the offensive team being short of the line, the ball will be advanced to
the previous spot.

So it would not be half the distance from the original spot, which was the 26? I had assumed we would get the ball at the 13 if they made the call...

I guess that makes sense.. if you have a play that covers 45 yards and the defender latches onto the face mask and he fumbles.. reverting back to a 15 yard penalty from the original LOS would only serve to punish the offense for a defensive penalty..

Hang in there. As Jfan said, keep calling.

1 year and 4 days ago, my wife had spinal fusion surgery.

She'd had back pain for almost 2 years. Many trips to the chiropractor with no good results. Several trips to our GP, no good results. Many appointments with a physical therapist.

Finally, the chiro ordered an MRI. Cracked vertebrae. That was sent on to a local surgeon, that sent it on to a specialist. We were told "that will never heal on it's own. Need to fuse it to prevent possible future damage, or worse."

The insurance company fought for almost 2 months (just long enough to get us into the new deductible year). A surgery was scheduled. And I kid you not, for about 2 weeks the insurance company denied it. The surgeon actually called the company. Finally, at about 4:45 pm we got a call that the insurance company would cover the surgery scheduled for 7 a.m. the next day. We left at 4:30 a.m.

Hang in there. Some things are more important than football.

One of the things I saw was our offense play the way KC wanted it to play and not do what it was capable of.

We seem to not run and go to a drop back passing attack. Which is right where they wanted us.

I think a first year head coach calling plays allowed himself to outsmart himself. He will learn from this and I think do much better next year if he is still calling plays, which I expect to happen.
GC. Not for nothing.

Last time I woke up, I woke up all upset, SURE, the Browns could have won this thing if only Stefanski where he was last week, and they had the Steelers' game, coaches or PlayCallers,

and maybe the Browns would be in the AFC Championship game.

Open their eyes, he's over matched.

Look at it this way, in 198x ?

Schottenheimer or ?, got his D'coordinator, or playcaling, (I don't know which)

taken from him, and it was for the better, because it wasn't just one person trying to do to much with his one brain, on gameday.

It's a matter of time, Before the Browns will make this change, I think it's holding the team back.

I think it's holding the team back, I don't want to see ANYTHING!!------
hold this team back.

I'm P-----! Because the Browns coulda, flamingmad coulda moved on.

Wishing you the very best, Tab. Though you may not know me, I've been lurking for years and certain posters stand out to me. I always appreciated your positive outlook and homerism lol. Keep fighting and get well soon. I look forward to your "what I saw" post next season.

What I saw was a team that was just overmatched and outcoached (no knock on Ski). It just sucks that we didn't take advantage once Mahomes went out. I hated that punt on 4th and 8. If we were gonna lose, I wanted to at least go out with our offense on the field trying to make a play with 15 seconds left. I thought we played with no urgency on both sides of the field. I'm sure our guys will learn from this and we'll be back to right all the wrongs.
Eo I wish you the best and you will be in my prayers. I understand what you are going through as I've been dealing with serious health issues with my wife. Again, hang in there and may God bless.

Stay positive Tab.

They key is keep going towards a way to better health.

Do everything possible that you can do to help yourself.

Attack this like an athlete trying to rehab back. Follow directions of your doctors to the letter.

We are all ready for 2021 to be the year of recovery. That should be your goal as well.

Browns will be ready for you to be a part of a great season.

Good question...I thought it would be added where the hit was made - they never take that back to the original LOS. Its always added to the play. I thought it would nullify the fumble do to the penalty - personal foul.

But as stated good question.

To all those who need it my prayers are out to you or spouses. May God Bless.

Throw Long, no clue what that rant was about. The only complaint I have on the coaching. Is how do you let a backup who never plays come in and on I think 3rd and 19 drop back and then run for the first down. That was a disgusting display of defensing the situation.

The foul occured before the change of posession. To me that's just added to the end of the play.

We still had a shot to win at the end of the game, so I'm not going to sit here and blame it all on that play. Our young team has a lot to learn from the way this ended and let's just hope they will.

God Bless and see you next year.

If you think that this coaching staff is worth keeping, they'll learn. It will all flow from the coaching. I can't remember a time since The Return when I felt more positive about this team's leadership and direction.

I really wanted them to win. Moreso for them than even myself. I thought they could win. But I wasn't really surprised when and how they lost. It was 'little stuff' for the entire game. Chubb drops 2 (!) passes saywhat , couple dumb penalties, etc. That little stuff adds up in a game against The Champs. And still, Elves gave them all they could handle.

I think this talented bunch of overacheivers is being well-led by folks who know what they're doing. Lessons will be learned.

I'm ready for a new season right now.

That’s a perfect summation.

I called my best friend at halftime. He answered the phone with an audible shrug of his shoulders. On the verge of accomplishments not seen since before we were in junior high and he sounded disinterested. He wasn’t gutted over the fumble; the Browns have potential to score in bunches.

He was bummed about the “little things” that stand in the way of consistent execution. Like a missed Taki-Taki tackle on the sideline on the opening drive. Or Janovich letting his man get inside on him when the right side was open for a big gain.

Regardless, I thought they were gonna do it the hard way. After that epic touchdown drive to make it a one score game, I was thinking about kismet. Following the pick I was convinced it was meant to be.

Dawg-gone shame how it went down. The Browns last offensive possession was such a disappointment; lackadaisical and disjointed. Then to have to stand on the sideline while a backup qb runs for almost 14 to set up a conversion allowing the clock to salt away, to be forced to watch when you know you are capable of so much more... if you could just get your hands on the ball one more time... one. more. time. I believe in this team and that next time they’ll embrace the struggle and finish.

Hell of a season my dawgs. It wasn’t quite everything we hoped for, but it was a hell of a start.

Which is exactly why they shouldn't have punted. They were silly to think they'd get the ball back. Andy Reid is not giving Baker that ball back! He had been playing keep-away all game long. Our defense has been giving up 3rd and forever all season long. Letting qbs of all ages run all over us ALL SEASON LONG! It wasn't gonna change there. I like our chances at converting on 3rd or 4th and long rather than putting that miserable defense back out there. Even if we didn't convert i could live with that.

Who woulda thunk that our season ended on a Final Destination premonition? ME!!! I saw it already playing out as our offense marched off the field. tsk tsk smh
I saw a season that blew away my expectations. But I also saw a game that reminded me of the Minnesota Vikings inability to close the deal. I hope/expect that Stefanski will overcome his coaching tree.

I acknowledge that my mindset might not be the right one, but I went into this game with full knowledge of the matchup and what everyone was saying about our chances. This team totally blew away my expectations, so that every win after #8 was gravy for me. I suppose if I started with higher expectations or adjusted them after it was clear we'd blow .500 out of the water, I'd be a little more fired up about the miscues and blown calls. I had already written off our chances at a championship because we were always an incomplete team with the state of our D. I always expected us to be embarrassed against a bonafide playoff-caliber team.
Even though the Browns lost Sunday. That felt right to me. Felt like the 1980's playoff games vs Jets, Dolphins, Bills, Colts, Raiders, and Broncos. I do not know why the Steelers win did not feel the same. Maybe because it exercised so many demons off the past. But watching the game vs the Chiefs felt like it did in the 1980's.

Dare I say ; Bunches !
Not to mention lack of speed to make those tackles!! crazy
Posted By: Clemdawg Re: What I saw Final Browns game vs Chiefs - 01/22/21 07:29 AM
Even though we're licking wounds in this thread, I think about this: if we doofus fans can see what the team needs, it's a pretty sure bet that this bunch in Berea see it, too.

I love going into this off season without worrying who the next HC will be. Who our GM is. How this team might find a way to overcome PETS* enough to see some level of consistency.

I'm sure that we'll get who we need. This bunch seems to be rowing with all oars on lock. I like where we are heading.

I don't know. At the beginning of the season not many seemed hopeful we would be a game away from the AFC championship game.

On gameday we we hoping, but overall, this season exceeded most people realistic expectations.

Go Browns

And those 3rd and a mile conversions took a lot of forms offensively. Not like a "fool me once" gadget play jocked us. We got beat on runs, passes, boots, broken plays. Our vanilla isn't stout enough or being put out aggressively enough IMO. Part oc that is the unholy amount of cushion we line up in and lack of disruption at LOS.

especially with no true offseason, training camp, preseason ... and then after week 1 .. it certainly looked like a 2-3 win team

I was thinking our LBs are pretty slow and I think they are by NFL standards, but no way are they all THAT slow.. a lot of it had to be out of position.

They didn't seem to have all the range they needed for some zone work and sideline coverage on runs. Whether we were slow of foot or slow to read and anticipate is rather moot. can't tackle if you are not in position. And we often failed to tackle when we were there. I can't imagine what the number of whiffs might be for the season. I thought some of that would get better as the season wore itself out, but no. And I have already noted, as have other posters, the long conversions. Our LB's had trouble with short yardage stops as well. Really feel we need a bona fide sledgehammer to patrol and enforce the middle. Don't believe that individual suits up for us yet.
I didn't know where to put this so I'll put it here. For the 1st time in I don't know how long I miss the fact we have no game this Sunday. Most of the time in the last 20- 25 years I couldn't wait for the season to end.
