When I think back to the season prediction thread, I picked us to win it all. What a fool I am. I never thought it would be like this, back to being the laughing stock, back to being that team that other teams circle as a win when schedules are released, back to the draft being our superbowl. The most frustrating part is that we are quickly approaching salary cap hell so to speak. The feddy kitchens season and this season have been a huge waste of our salary cap money. As for the game, who the heck knows. I'm assuming the Bengals will sit some of thier starters which may not make a difference anyway. Never the less, I started the season predictions as a fool mind as well end as one to.

Browns-26
Bengals-20

This one is so hard to predict without knowing who’s playing. Tough to pick us to win at this juncture if Cincy has a semblance of a team.
Posted By: PrplPplEater Re: Predictions - 01/05/22 04:31 PM
The Bengals will likely come out playing for everything, but the coaches will be scoreboard watching. If the Titans & Chiefs (and either Pats or Bills) are somehow are losing, they will crush us. If any of those don't look to be going their way, they will likely treat the 2nd Half like the 4th Preseason game in order to protect their starters.

I predict a meaningless loss in an utterly meaningless game. They will allow us to move the ball all game in order to keep the clock churning, and our defense will play soft to avoid injuries... but, the most Browns thing is that we'll light it up with Keenum and the offense will look magically like the early season version and we'll win it going away. Just to add fuel to the QB fire.
Posted By: MrKelso Re: Predictions - 01/05/22 05:07 PM
Bengals 31
Browns 13

Game is close early.

Keenum, Chubb, and the defense play harder than anyone expects them to.

Bengals only lead 17-10 at halftime.

The game is only 24-13 going into the 4th quarter.

Burrow and that offense though eventually start to rip off large chunk plays and put it out of reach.

31-13 is the final.

Burrow is out as is Mixon. Mullens to start for the Browns. Honestly, I don't really care about the game. Please - no more injuries going into the offseason. Just because it's been one of those seasons:

Bengals 16
Browns 13
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 05:24 PM
Hmmmmm... Mullens starting over Keenum? I wonder if they are trying to hide the fact that Keenum should have been starting for weeks now?
Posted By: FrankZ Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 05:31 PM
I am seeing Keenum will start as of now. Is there a reason to think otherwise?

I do not have my thumb on the pulse of the roster changes though.

I hadn't heard this.

If this the case, it seems like we're giving the kid a showcase chance for other teams to look at (2 full games of tape). This is a good thing.

Or, we're trying to see if we want to extend him off the one year contract to battle for the backup role next season. This is also a good thing.

You're correct. Keenum is starting. Mullens was elevated to the active roster to serve as Keenum's backup.

That makes sense.
Posted By: Iluvmyxstripper Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 07:30 PM
Bengals 21 Browns 10
Bengals have more incentive to win.
Reminds of Freddies last game as HC
The Browns were already checked out
And Cincy just took it to the Browns.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 07:34 PM
They must not consider it a lot of incentive since they are sitting both Burrows and Mixon.
Posted By: YTownBrownsFan Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 07:39 PM
Mixon is on the CO-VID list.

Not starting Burrows speaks volumes.

Bengals path to #1 seed:

Chiefs lose on the road to 7-9 Broncos
Titans lose on the road to 4-12 Texans

Not impossible, highly unlikely. Seems that getting Burrows some rest is a more realistic approach to being a little healthier in the playoffs.

I predict that our back-ups will lose and that most of our team will already have their off-season bags packed and in the car with their golf clubs... they will want to get as far away as possible and try to wash the stench of this season off their bodies... then hopefully, like most fans, they will get their mind right and come back in next season prepared to not let it happen again.

We've had incentive to win a lot of winnable games down the stretch, and failed to do so. I do not think incentive means much to us.

Agreed. However, someone made the insinuation that not playing Burrows spoke volumes about "something".

A lot of people around here spend so much time trying to read between the lines that they forget to actually read the lines.
Posted By: MrKelso Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 09:18 PM
I just heard this morning on the radio that Burrow and Mixon aren't playing on Sunday, and some other Bengals starters are likely to sit and rest as well.

I change my prediction then.

I actually think a Keenum lead Browns team squeaks out a 20-13 win now.

As meaningless as it is, sweeping the Bengals will feel good.

I won't shed any tears if we lose though as we do need the draft positioning.
Posted By: DCDAWGFAN Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 09:28 PM
There will be a lot of speculation about this game I expect.. a lot of comparisons will be made to the Steelers game.. so I will start.

The Steelers have the #31 ranked run defense in the NFL, the Bengals are #6... what will it say if we actually try to run the ball against the Bengals?

Chubb got 12 carries against the Steelers to save him from injury (allegedly)... what will it say if he gets that many or more in this, equally meaningless game?
Posted By: Damanshot Re: Predictions - 01/06/22 10:24 PM
With both Baker and Burrows out, I doubt this means much

They're giving Burrows his bye early. I think the probabilities support this. They're otherwise a pretty healthy team, and putting Burrows in front of our D-front could be a recipe for disaster (like last game).
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Predictions - 01/07/22 03:59 PM
Actually both Burrows and the coach said he could play. They instead wanted him 100% healthy for the playoffs. The coach also said he didn't know how many starters he would hold out of the game. I never knew that "being sore" was considered an injury.

Quote
Burrow is nursing aches and pains, including his right knee and pinky finger on his throwing hand, but said he could have played this week had it been necessary. Coach Zac Taylor told the quarterback earlier in the week that he would sit Sunday.

“I think any time you can get a little break at this point in the season,” Burrow said Wednesday. “You know, we played a lot of games, bodies are starting to wear down a little bit. You can rest me this week and get my body back to where it needs to be so I can be full strength, running around the way I need to be for Week 1 of the playoffs.”

Taylor said it’s possible that star rookie receiver Ja’Marr Chase also will be rested Sunday.

“I can’t make a prediction on the amount of starters (who will be held out),” Taylor said. “I can certainly say for Joe (Burrow), we’ll rest him this week and make sure he’s 100% ready to go. I know he’s felt good and could play if needed but I just made the decision that we’re going to rest him this week.”

So you just keep making up BS arch to try and start something. I'll go with what their coach and QB says.

He does not have an injury. Soreness is not an injury. I actually stated that they didn't see much of an incentive to play Burrows. So it sounds like you're actually agreeing with me that resting Burrows gives them more incentive and they consider that a greater advantage than playing him. I would do exactly what they are doing. You're welcome.
Posted By: oobernoober Re: Predictions - 01/07/22 07:28 PM
I don't know about his knee (can't/won't keep track of other team's injuries when ours has so many), but his pinky got super jacked up a week or two ago. That was definitely an injury.
Posted By: PitDAWG Re: Predictions - 01/07/22 07:44 PM
What was stated in the article is that as of now, he only has aches and pain. No injury. I wasn't trying to revisit a couple of weeks ago. The topic was this game.

As of today on the Bengals injury report Burrows status reads as follows. No Injury Report... NIR. Resting knee.

All I want this weekend is for the Steelers to lose. After last week's game all the Steeler fans I have to live around are out walking around as if they won the superbowl. Watching their hopes pummeled will be better than anything I see from the Browns -Bengals game.

I truly don't know how you do it... surrounded by 'em all the time.
They should just airdrop black & yellow paint all over Jefferson county like the firefighters out west.

Big Pitt and Pens fans, too.

Smart Steubenvillains such as yourself probably drilled your own dedicated water supply.
I don't blame you.

They love the Pirates when they are winning, but never mention them any other time. Ben is retiring, I hope they go through the hell many other teams do with bad QB play for years. A friend of mine has two sets of season tickets. All year he was selling them weekly. Now that they beat a decimated Browns team, he is back on Facebook all garnered in his black and piss yellow gear. I hate them all. I have been ridiculed for years, and I take it. Last year when we beat them twice, they all avoided me or made excuses. If the Steelers winning would send the Browns to the superbowl, I would still not be able to root for them. They are the scourge of my life.

Depending on some major lineup changes, our D should abuse their offense. Our DEs should go off and let off some frustration. Secondary might even get some turnovers.

That said, I just want us to come out of the game looking akin to a competent pro team, and no major injuries.

Predicting Jamar Chase to show the Browns fan what a legit #1 WR looks like. And predicting that the Cinci #2 and #3 WR's in Higgins and Boyd will show you why no Cleveland WR would crack their top 3.
