I can't believe no one's started one of these yet. We used to have a party at our house, but I'm not comfortable doing that with my elderly MIL here and COVID making the rounds thru my family members. That's 3 yrs running now that the party's not happened. It's just the wife and I, we're sort of going Polish. Kielbasa and pierogi. I did pick up some shrimp on sale that looked too good to pass up for an appetizer, though.

For munchies we have a chunk of brie, shakerag blue, cheddar and a half long of pepper crusted uncured salami to eat with crackers.

For the main dinner, I started a pot roast with the usual root and stem items in a crock pot around 8:30 this morning.

Probably fruit and shrimp, and whatever other heart healthy low sodium stuff we can come up with.

Going to my parents house. It will be a very NON traditional Super Bowl for us. Long story short, dad suffered a heart attack 7 days ago. Local hospital, shipped him Sunday night to Toledo - St. Lukes. Testing Sunday and Monday. Bad news: 4 blockages. Worse news: no cardiologist in Toledo would touch him due to the locations. Open heart also ruled out, as well as stents. Tuesday options: He can't leave the hospital to go home. Either stay there and attempt to treat with meds, or get a second opinion.

Second opinion please. They sent his scans to Henry Ford Hospital, where a cardiologist from St. Luke's had an "in" for referral, and that guy spoke with the head of cardiology that, get this - not only specializes in this, but teaches it and lectures on it. "Yes, we can do it." Transferred up there Tuesday night, had a stent procedure wednesday afternoon, and came home Thursday. Mandatory low sodium diet. (as well as some other stipulations, like no red meat, other than maybe once every few months, etc)

So, that being the situation, we're watching the super bowl with my parents for the first time in...........?

Wow, what an emotional ride that must have been. Glad they were able to get the stents in and that he's home..

Usually the wife and I cook up something special. But today we ordered Jim & Nicks BBQ for the game. Smoked brisket, smoked chicken, potato salad, mac and cheese, cole slaw and baked beans. For appetizers were having bison summer sausage with, crackers, assorted cheeses and shrimp cocktail.

I like Jim and Nicks. I would stop at one in Bessemer, Ala, outside of Birmingham after visiting family in Montgomery.

A few years ago they opened one here. I usually get over there around once a month. Great BBQ and those sweet cornbread muffins are great. I could just eat those suckers.

They are really good. We got a dozen of those to go along with the order. I'm really not much of a bread person. I never eat rolls or bread with dinner. But I eat the hell out of those things! Yeah, we have a Jim & Nicks about 10 minutes from the house. We go there more often than we probably should. It's some pretty damned good BBQ and the price isn't crazy either. I think you get a lot of bang for your buck there.
