Given our OT situation, this is fantastic news for us.

They really need to take a long look at their strength and conditioning department.

We don't have any OT's left.

Exactly. Basically, all these injuries have ruined what had been a very promising season. That's just our luck and a crying shame. frown

Yeah this season was promising, I have no doubt if we had Chubb and Watson, plus some of our OLine that we would be one of the top teams in the AFC. Right now I'm perfectly fine with just making the playoffs and being one and done, anything more than that is just gravy. At least that can start a winning culture with the team
Posted By: lampdogg Re: Injuries - 12/14/23 03:10 AM
We ARE one of the top teams in the AFC. If you go by the standings. wink
Posted By: DaveyD Re: Injuries - 12/14/23 03:50 AM
With all the people who did not practice and everyone else who was out for the season, did they play 3 on 3?

...says the Brown "fan" whose favorite team currently sits at 8-5.

In December. When s# actually counts.

A team that currently owns the top spot in the Wild Card race.
At a time in the NFL season when Browns fans traditionally are already talking about next year's draft.

I get it. I understand your "howls of protest" against The Fates dropping the injury card on this season's poker table.
I've been the victim of "Battered Dawg Syndrome" myself.

But, damn, Dawg...
What more do you need to get behind these guys, and give them your unequivocal support? Right now, in 2023?

_____________

I've watched all the games you've watched. I've seen this team beat back the same crap that has beaten down former Browns teams... and still, we fans find Our Team in the hot mix of tournament talk.

This 8-5 team hasn't given up.
They deserve fans who haven't given up on them.

Just sayin,'

Yesterday I listened to the KS press conf.

Of course all the reporters were clamoring about the injuries.

KS handled it. All the guys who now will play have been on the team all year. They have practiced. They want to contribute and now is their opportunity.

It is December. Injuries mount on all teams. We hear it from every coach. "Next man up."

You cannot let it get in your way. You prepare with who can play. Then you go out and do your job. Each play every guy on the field has his role. No matter what position it is.

Flacco is now the fourth quarterback. "Go out there Joe and draw upon all you have learned and play the game." That goes for every guy at every position.

We gonna ride this leaking boat till we get to where we set out to go.

Of all the seasons I have watched the Browns and that is many seasons. I am all in on this team. I believe in KS. And I love the heart that this team has shown.

I will go down with the ship.

I do think an early bye has an affect on things too ... we are simply just worn down after so many close games, west coast trip, plugging in new guys, etc
Posted By: slick Re: Injuries - 12/14/23 01:59 PM
When is the last time Thornhill even played? Broncos game? Has he even played 5 games this season? I keep forgetting he is even on the team. Well in any case it appears he won't be playing g again this week. Which means I will forget who he is again. However who do we have left to play saftey? The rookie Hickman and who else? Ghandi?
Posted By: Homewood Dog Re: Injuries - 12/14/23 02:18 PM
I am still behind this team 100%. I’ll support them whether they win the next 4 games or lose them. All I was saying is because of all the injuries it will probably limit us to how far we can go in the playoffs if we make them. I really believe when healthy or even close to it, we can play with and beat anyone.
Posted By: Dawgs4Life Re: Injuries - 12/14/23 02:31 PM
yeah for sure .. we've proven it by beating SF, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville

I'm proud of the team this season

Good luck to the office temps and part time landscapers we’re going to be suiting up and trotting out there to play OL for the rest of the season. Flacco and Ski better be game planning getting rid of the ball quick! We’ve had a lot of snake bit injury years but this has to be the craziest. 8-5 and missing most of our best players. If we make the playoffs, Bill Callahan deserves a fat bonus.

Seriously tho, who the hell is on our OL this week?

Thanks for clarifying.
I may have overreacted to seeing the word "ruined" in your post.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Injuries - 12/15/23 12:24 PM
Strange really that for some reason I think the Browns will figure out how to win.

The injuries hurt there is no doubt about that. However, consider each play and how could the Browns compensate? Every back-up now starting has to be adequate enough to do his role and execute the play. Each player is inside the Browns scheme.

Ward makes a difference on defense because he is the kind of talent that can lock down his guy. Emerson likewise. Newsome has the slot down. Losing Delpit hurts. But the replacement is not on an island. In most cases he has over the top responsibilities. Read the keys and be in position.

The pass rush still must pressure. We can do this.

The OT losses hurt the most. But there is one the thing that helps. Flacco is conventional. He is not like DW who's game is hold the ball and extend plays. Flacco is a guy who can run the play action game. KS will go back to the Jacoby and Baker playbook. That means timed up routes and get the ball out. That will compensate to a degree
for the downgrade of the OTs.

I am not giving in to the injuries. We have decent depth. The backups should know their assignments.
Posted By: Homewood Dog Re: Injuries - 12/15/23 02:09 PM
Bone I hope you’re right. I wish I had the optimism you have but I guess 56 years of me being a fan will do that. Next man up fine but when you’re down to 3rd stringers there has to be a drop off in quality play. If we don’t make the playoffs or get in and lose the 1st game i’ll always wonder how far we could have gone if reasonably healthy. This was the year we could have realistically gone to the Super Bowl and it most likely got ruined, as I’ve put it, by injuries. As a fan it hurts.
Posted By: bonefish Re: Injuries - 12/15/23 03:27 PM
I understand.

Honestly when Nick went down. I was hurting.

But to witness how this team has responded to all that has happened in some ways has reinforced my opinion on the coaching staff and KS specifically.

The team has refused to back down.

No matter what happens the rest of the way. I will remember this team. I believe we will win at least two more games and get into the playoffs.

How we play from this point on will be an indicator on how well we might be able to do come playoffs.

I do not at this point see a team without their own problems. KC can be beat and so can every other team in the AFC. The Ravens have the current top seed. We beat them. And they have games coming against the Jags, Dolphins, and Niners. They could look mortal real fast.

I'm not quite sure where I stand on this honestly. I know at some point injuries will dictate that the Browns will lose games. Where that tipping point is however remains unclear. It sort of reminds me of preseason in a way where one team starts filling in with backups while the other team leaves in all of its starters. At some point the team with all of its starters begins to take over. I'm not sure if the Browns are there yet but if not it's getting very close to that point.

Sure wish the counter could be turned back to Zero

Or at least 3 not including Chubb
Posted By: bonefish Re: Injuries - 12/15/23 10:58 PM
Ward being out really hurts because it changes the way we can play.

We need our corners now with both Thornhill and Delpit out. D'A Bell and Hickman can both play but their inexperience could hurt. I am sure their position coaches are really on them.

Flacco changes some things because the offense will change to fit his comfort zone. Both Christian and Hudson are a drop in talent. But there will be an emphasis on getting the ball out quicker. I really expect to see a modified WCO play action scheme.

We are getting close to the tipping point. Cannot lose Myles. We are getting thin. JOK would be a big loss because he is like a two way player in run and pass.

The big time pass rushers that we would face in post season if we get there will be problematic. If we can stay strong on the interior OL we should still be ok with the run game.

I know all teams at this stage have lost players and guys are beat down. But we have lost a lot at key positions. I am sure it has cost us games.

Credit to the coaches and players to be in the hunt at 8-5.

On today's injury report, he is listed as Limited Practice and Questionable

Questionable is better than Doubtful, right? Or did they do away with Doubtful as a listing?

We've elevated S Tanner McCalister and LB Charlie Thomas III from the practice squad
