Ok my fellow Ohioans Tim Ryan or JD Vance and why? I'm voting Ryan.
Posted By: Swish Re: Ryan or Vance - 09/23/22 08:43 PM
im actually not surprised you went Ryan, because you're not ignorant.

Ryan is bleh. I try to vote for a person - not against someone else - so Ryan's platform is more of the same from a typical midwestern dem, which in ohio is whatever. he's definitely not gonna use big government to take away an individual's autonomy, and i believe over the course of his 1st term, he will at least fight for more infrastructure investment across the country.

Ryan.. Not aligned with a Traitor named Trump... I really don't need any other reason.

Ryan is the ONLY option. JD is a nutjob swindler.

And that sucks, because Ryan is a windbag who would "reinvent himself" for any six figure donation.

Looks like I'm writing in Nick Chubb.

You're a good man. I know it's hard to not vote GOPer when that's what you believe in, but you see the trouble MAGA brings. Thank you for that Fate.

Ryan ... but I don't think that surprises anybody.

I feel like's actually the sort of Centrist Dem (ala) Manchin, that most Republicans would like if it weren't about party politics.

How often do we hear about George Soros backing Democratic candidates but we never hear about Peter Thiel (sp) or the Koch Brothers backing Republican candidates.

What gets me is all the money Tim has raised from average Joe's compaired to the Money JD has raised from the average Guy. It's not even close.

Tim may reinvent himself to win the election, but since so much of the money he raised was small donations from the regular man/woman I don't think he would do so for money as he didn't need to this year.

From September through the Nov. 8 election, Ryan and his allies have reserved $13.6 million in TV ads throughout the state. Ryan’s campaign funded the vast majority – about 83% – with the rest coming from outside groups, including Save America Fund, a pro-Ryan group.

Meanwhile, Vance and his allies have spent about $30.6 million on ads. Ninety-two percent of that is coming from outside groups, nearly all of which is from Senate Leadership Fund PAC, which has close ties to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. About $2.4 million is coming directly from Vance’s campaign.

aye did you ever read Vance's book called Hillbilly Elegy?

i've seen snippets of it, but i always wonder what white guys thought about that. i say that with all respect, because as i've mentioned in threads in the past, i don't know what its like to be white in a rural area or suburban area, but im aware enough to know that there's definitely some class divide between whites that has some tension but doesn't get talked about, so my view is always from the outside looking in.

like, what did you others think about his beliefs about white america and such?

Never read it, but I will check it out when i get time, and let you know my opinion.

I watched the movie on Netflix. I would say it resonates with a lot of people. When I go back home in North East Ohio, I see relatives or the people that I grew up around, I hear about a lot of people that allowed drugs to destroy their lives, including some family members. Growing up in those rural areas in the 70s and 80s, there was very little of that stuff. There was alcohol abuse, but not the hard drugs. So, it definitely pulls on your emotions to see how things have changed. It definitely bothers me when I see people on the coasts talk about the Midwest like it is some sort of backwards place run by inbred rednecks. That effects people and makes them angry and makes them feel like the people with the most political power in the country, really don't care about them.

As far as Vance, You can never really know what a guy stands for regardless of what he advertises himself as, at some level, both candidates have to sell a bit of themselves in order to get in the position to even run for these seats. That's just the way the parties work. But, knowing that someone came from a background where they faced similar challenges to the rest of us and still succeeded, makes you hope that they might actually look out for people in those communities.

I actually think both candidates are pretty decent given the choices in the primaries. I was very concerned about a couple of the Republicans that were running. They seemed a little unstable.

JD Vance decent? PUHlease.

PTI...

OCD -- you won the Pick 'ems this week. Congrats!
Posted By: OldColdDawg Re: Ryan or Vance - 09/26/22 01:06 AM
Thanks. You were on my heels all day. lol.

I'm upset with myself though. Played a three-team underdog round-robin and went with the Jets, Lions, and Miami. But originally had the Panthers in place of the Lions, tossing them just before the bet. Of course, they won. Not out much but missed out on a couple hundred.

Blows my mind. I won it last year going away. This year? I have last place secured, handily.
Posted By: OldColdDawg Re: Ryan or Vance - 09/26/22 01:23 AM
Same for me ever since I won and actually before. Pure luck.

One thing I absolutely HATE that Trump has done to us is this ridiculous name calling in political adds.

"TAXING TIM RYAN", makes me just want to vote for Tim Ryan because you're a jackass.
Posted By: PerfectSpiral Re: Ryan or Vance - 09/26/22 07:30 PM
Did that make you vote for sleepy joe?

Don’t read if you are looking for a political philosophy or consistency of approach. Vance is the political version of Tucker Carlson, who at one time was a regular on MSNBC, before finding his voice and audience on Fox News.

I don't really disagree with you, and I would honestly rather have Nick Chubb than either of these two.

I do think that Ryan is probably closer to advocating for what the average Ohioan wants, though, and, as far as I can tell, he doesn't have one mega donor who's controlling his puppet strings. He definitely has "updated" his views to center himself to become more appealing to the average voter, but Vance's flip-flop on Trump made it seem pretty obvious how crazy his opportunism was in order to get votes. Until recently, he also seemed woefully unconcerned with even trying in this election. I also don't like his views on Ukraine.

For that reason, I will go with Ryan. It sucks because - like what you're saying - it definitely falls in line with voting against someone rather than voting for someone.

https://www.cleveland.com/opinion/2022/10/tim-ryan-for-us-senate-endorsement-editorial.html

But the choice here boils down to what kind of statesman would best represent Ohio in the Senate. In that arena, Ryan is the clear favorite.

During his years in Congress, Ryan has shown himself to be an able collaborator who is willing to work across the aisle, an important quality in a deeply divided Senate. His bipartisan bona fides were affirmed by a recent Georgetown University study, which judged him Ohio’s second most bipartisan U.S. House member, after outgoing U.S. Rep. Anthony Gonzalez of Rocky River.

In his endorsement interview with the editorial board of the Plain Dealer and cleveland.com, Ryan acknowledged his consistent voting with Pelosi, but noted that negotiations and differences of opinion while legislation is being formed are far more important than the final vote. And his having run against Pelosi for House speaker in 2016 and his opposition to her two years later are hardly the acts of a sycophant.

Ryan

Hopefully, he can continue working on expanding opportunities for voltage valley and work on bringing more chip manufacturing to the Cbus area.

Both have the opportunity for good paying jobs
