Once again I have been sentenced to serve Thanksgiving at my mother in laws. She started cooking the Turkey on Oct 31st to make sure that that beautiful 30 pound bird would cook down to a 5 pound chuck of black dried up space rock. You could crawl through the Sahara desert and find more moisture in a mouthful of sand than you can in her turkeys.

This year I am bring my own carving tools and utensils.

Although I have called in a favor and have Thor on standby as we may need a bigger hammer to smash the space rock.... um I mean turkey open.

I am sure her noodles can't be any worse this year. Unless she once again forgets to boil them.

My father in law told me her gravy is already made and getting colder by the second already

I may need to break out the hammer and chisel again to try to find some edible pumpkin left in the pie.

I am sure my father in law will also find some time to sneak out to the garage for a few hours and wash down our meal with this

So the day won't be a total waste laugh

Y'all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and enjoy yourselves today.

Fortunately this looks like her best batch of mashed potatoes in the last 35 years

I peeked into the grille and it looks like she made her usual rolls to go with the meal

I am also sure she will dust off a jar of corn for us again as well

As usual I will also have a soup strainer on hand to try to salvage a single bite of stuffing after I strain the whole bowl of it.

Enjoy the day everyone

There’s a bunch of my favorite movie's on TV this morning:

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Forest Gump
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Naked Gun
, and of course the requisite
Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

Only problem is that there is almost a 1-to-2 ratio of commercials to movie run. In other words for every 2 minutes of movie, there’s almost one minute of commercial.

For instance Naked Gun 33 1/3 is listed at 2 ½ hours on the TV guide. Actual movie time is only 82 minutes. That’s 68 minutes of commercial.

If you want to watch Naked Gun today, you’ll be spending over an hour watching commercials. That’s too much.

Or, he could just get a Betamax like me, record them, and fast forward through the ads. Come on Rocky, get up to speed, man.

Only if I really did - lol.

Hey listen, back in the mid '80s I recorded every original Star Trek episode off the TV. (you know Kirk and Spock and company).

There's 79 original episodes. It took me 2 1/2 years to get every episode recorded. The episodes were shown in the order they were made and first televised.

So I knew which episodes were coming up on the particular TV channel.

It took me a year to get the last ~ 10 episodes.

It was a labor of love.

A few years later I bought them all on disc for ~ $100 and threw out the ~ 40 VCR tapes I had Star Trek episodes on.

We were supposed to go to my wife's cousins house for the weekend... So happy we didn't... My 4 year old ended up getting sick so I'm glad we didn't travel, but more importantly I got to cook at home and am currently sitting on my couch watching football...

I double smoked a 8 lbs ham and smoked a 4 lbs turkey breast (family prefers ham). In laws brought over carrot casserole, stuffing, and gravey... My wife did mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rolls, and then I made a pecan pie and pumpkin pie.... I don't want to move until Sunday...

Happy thanksgiving

I've been on call since 8 am on Thanksgiving morning. It's now 3:11 am on Friday and I'm still up and working. Yikes. 8 am can't come soon enough.

It's now 4:53am and I'm thankful I'm just now climbing into bed. Now if my phone just stays quiet for three more hours I'll be very very thankful.
