The Cleveland Browns on Tuesday signed quarterback Matt Blanchard to the practice squad. To make room on the roster, the club released offensive lineman Erle Ladson from the practice squad.
Blanchard is 6-3, 223 pounds and officially in his second NFL season out of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Originally signed by Chicago as an undrafted free agent in 2012, Blanchard has spent time on the practice squads in Chicago and Carolina. He spent training game this year with Green Bay and was waived during final roster cuts. In college, he guided the Warhawks to a 45-0 record and three Division III national championships during his three seasons after transferring from Northern Michigan. A native of Lake Zurich, Ill., he graduated from Lake Zurich High School.

Misleading thread. His signing to the PS was already mentioned in the PS thread. I thought he was just signed onto the roster, misleading.

He was 45-0 in college? How come he didn't get drafted first overall?

I liked Fales [as a backup qb] coming out of college. He doesn't have a great arm and isn't the biggest guy, but he makes a lot of throws.

It was a Hard decision for the Browns not to trade up and get.. It got confusing for them since Luck and RG3 were there also..

They decided to play it smart and take Trent Richardson with the 3rd pick..

Didn't Fales play for DeFilippo at San Jose State?

(Google search)

DeFilippo was at San Jose State from 2010 to 2011. Fales from 2012 to 2013. DeFelippo recruited him but never coached him.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

`Once considered a first-round talent, Hundley failed to improve his stock in his junior year at UCLA, falling all the way to the fifth round. Now he's a distant fourth on the Packers' depth chart behind Blanchard, a former undrafted free agent who has yet to appear in an NFL game. Scott Tolzien is locked into the No. 2 spot behind last year's NFL MVP Aaron Rodger`

probebly our best qb...

I`m good with Baker... Playoffs is good enough for me.

I'm not opposed of seeing where he's at and who Austin is, but wish it was preseason when crap didn't go on record.

I think he has to. McCown wont be ready, if Manzeil goes down, somebody got to be ready. This Blanchard kid is just an arm for practice. Although, he has been coached well in Green Bay, so he could be a nice project to develop.

Fantastic! Been saying it since we signed him, he's the best QB on our roster. Also apparently the healthiest.

That being said I'm sure this is just CYA precautionary stuff at this point in time, unfortunately.

Found this scouting report:
"Blanchard led the Warhawks to two consecutive Division III championships. He threw for 4,989 yards with 44 TD's and only 5 INT's during that time span.

He is accurate, has a good arm and makes audible calls at the line of scrimmage. His mobility allowed him to rush for 452 yards in 2011. The jump from Division III to the NFL is daunting, but not without hope. Blanchard will likely be in a training camp to get his chance."

Educated guess: we'll most likely have to start Johnny, Austin Davis, and Blanchard during the 2015 season (and that's only half joking)

Giving Davis reps makes sense. Johnny had none. "Only 1 play away"

Blanchard seems like a great candidate for a practice squad.

I don't see anything wrong with any of this.

Original starter not cleared to practice yet.

New starter has elbow problems that prevents him from throwing too much in practice. Or games.

Someone has to take the 1st team reps that JFF cannot.
