Oh they may have "thought" anything. But you should always heir on the side of caution. I also didn't know it was legal for law enforcement to question a minor without their parents present.

At this point I think there could be an interesting comparison of reactions between the 2 political extremes.

Could we compare the support the kid with the pencil box has received to the support Zimmerman, Kim Davis, The fast food Chicken, bakers or pizza places have received?

On one side we have a kid with a pencil box. On the other we have a dead kid and bigots.

saywhat

Well, Zimmerman aside (may have been self defense, but he did put himself in that position) what we really have are religious freedom issues not bigots.

On your side you have 'segregation now…segregation forever', 'I'll have these niggers voting democrat for 200 years' and 50 million dead kids.

Where are the bigots?

His daddy, maybe.

A link the libs won't believe is actual news

In very short order, the family was under management by the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), an organization established – ironically, in a federal prosecution conducted in nearby Richardson, Texas – to be a Muslim Brotherhood-associated fundraising and political warfare arm for the designated terrorist group, Hamas. Ahmed lawyered up and he and his family were no-shows for scheduled meetings with school officials and with the police chief and Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne.

In fact, at the very hour the latter meeting was supposed to occur, the Mohameds and their Islamic supremacist handlers were instead holding a press conference. In the course of the presser, the family made clear that their beef wasn’t with the Irving school district or the police. It was with the city’s political leadership, starting with Mayor Van Duyne.

That message has subsequently become a staple of the Islamists. For example, local news on September 18th featured a quote from one, Khalid Hamadeh of the Islamic Association of North Texas, decrying “political leaders espousing inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric and creating a climate of fear.”

But wait...isn't CAIR the same organization labeled a terrorist affiliated organization by some countries? Wait...isn't CAIR the organization that is calling for Dr. Ben Carson to suspend his presidential campaign simply for stating he does not believe we should ever elect a Muslim as POTUS?

Holy cow people! Burying your head in the sand and ignoring things occuring before your very eyes is part of the problem. If you are part of the problem, you are in no way part of the solution.

Now we want to remove the American flag from the classroom because it is offensive to some. WHAT???? The flag stands for what most came to this country for: FREEDOM. How is that offensive?

This, IMO, is the beginning of a takeover of our country. Afterall, isn't that the goal of radical Islam: eradicate all unlike you.

A Muslim for President? Are you nuts?

He might drive a wedge between us and or good friend Israel!
He might sign ridiculous agreements with Iran!
He would try to convince us that ISIS is a JV team, unworthy of our concern!
He would refuse to arm the Kurds who are fighting ISIS!
He would make excuses for Radical Islam by telling us that
Christians also killed people a thousand years ago!

Uh, wait a minute, Hmmmmmmm....

People have posted on-line various photos of "suitcase" bombs, some alleging that they are the ones the FBI uses for training, etc. I have no way to verify if these things are accurate... but the ones they have posted, there is no way a science teacher or somebody from local law enforcement is going to know that the clock he made wasn't a rudimentary version of one of them.

If my child was in that school and there was ANY question about the project, I would expect action to be taken by school officials. Where law enforcement takes it from there is another story. The school's responsibility is to keep everyone safe in all respects.

If that was my child, I would have had enough common sense to just not let him take that thing to school without prior consent and understanding.

Arrested for an imagination

Quote:
EDUCATION
High School Kid Arrested For Writing About Shooting A DINOSAUR
Education Editor
8:03 AM 08/21/2014

It’s only August, but an overzealous teacher and some overzealous cops have already landed a high school student in serious trouble for having — or, in this case, merely imagining — something that represents a weapon, but isn’t actually anything remotely like a real weapon.

The student, 16-year-old Alex Stone, was busted after he wrote about using a gun to kill a dinosaur earlier this week.

Stone, who attends Summerville High School in a distant suburb of Charleston, S.C., found himself both suspended and arrested after he completed a required class assignment, Charleston CBS affiliate WCSC reports.

For the introductory assignment, Stone’s teacher asked him and his classmates to write something about themselves and their current status — like something you might write on Facebook.

Stone decided to write a fictional story wherein he slew a dinosaur. He used the word “gun.” He used the words “take care of business” as well.

“I killed my neighbor’s pet dinosaur, and, then, in the next status I said I bought the gun to take care of the business,” the blond, baby-faced teenager told WCSC.

The teacher apparently failed to understand that he was writing a fictional account about killing a species of animal that went extinct about 65 million years ago.

Then, the teacher contacted school administrators, who promptly suspended Stone for the remainder of the week.

School officials also notified police on Tuesday. When police investigators asked Stone about his writing, he explained that it was a joke.

The police say Stone became “irate,” according to The Washington Post, so they arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct.

When police searched Stone’s belongings, they failed to find a gun.

Stone’s mother, Karen Gray, is not happy about what happened to her son.

“I could understand if they made him rewrite it because he did have ‘gun’ in it. But a pet dinosaur?” the mad mom told the CBS affiliate.”I mean first of all, we don’t have dinosaurs anymore. Second of all, he’s not even old enough to buy a gun.”

Gray is also upset that school officials never bothered to contact her.

“If the school would have called me and told me about the paper and asked me to come down and discussed everything and, at least, get his point of view on the way he meant it. I never heard from the school, never. They never called me,” she told the station.

Stone believes the school’s overreaction was absurd.

“I regret it because they put it on my record, but I don’t see the harm in it,” he said.”I think there might have been a better way of putting it, but I think me writing like that, it shouldn’t matter unless I put it out towards a person.”

While that kid in Irving gets invites to the White House and Facebook, Alex Stone, (using Red Buttons schtick on those Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts), Never Got a Dinner.

While I don't think the kid should have been arrested, I can potentially see him being questions.

1) The teacher told the kids to write a story about how they are feeling (status update).

2) Kid's feels like he needs to shoot a dino and take care of business.

3) A common insult when I was older was calling a teacher a dinosaur if they were very old (or saying something like they were as old as dinos, older than, etc.)

Who knows? Maybe the kid was making some type of threat?

I doubt he actually meant it, and he probably didn't have plans to go shoot up the school to take care of busniess on all of the old dinosaur teachers, but I can easily see the teacher being a bit spooked, especially if she/he were older. And we don't know the history or background of said kid, aside from the fact that he's a "baby-faced blonde" (this article wasn't skewed or anything...).

An arrest is probably unwarranted seeing as the kid was probably just making a joke, but I can also see how the principal took it seriously, especially with all the shootings and stuff happening.

All I know is that it seems that the teachers and schools are ALWAYS wrong.

Here you go.

Sure seems that way doesn't it? If the teacher acts and investigates and sends the kid home so they can sort it out, they are over-reacting, knee jerk, profiling, PC, etc...

then when tragedy strikes, those same people are first ones to say, "Look, the kid wrote a paper about buying a gun and shooting an animal. Why didn't you see that as a sign and do something?"

Not to mention, with a story like this once a week, there are still over 3 million public school teachers in the US who are not being written about and dragged through the mud... a lot of them, the vast majority of them, are obviously getting it right.

Vers, sometimes you are a pain in the ass to argue football with (and I say that with all the love in the world tongue ) but you always struck me as a passionate teacher who cared deeply about his students. It sucks that you feel you have to get out of the profession and I wish you nothing but the best.

Good Luck Vers with the personal issues. I hope everything work out for you.

My wife teaches also so I hear you loud & clear regarding education. The inmates are more and more running the asylum. She is eligible to retire soon and the way her school's BOE treats them she will have no trouble walking away. Which is a shame because she was always a consummate professional and dedicated to the kids she taught. It is always nice when one of her former Kindergartners or 1st graders who is now an adult recognizes her and tells her she had an impact in their lives.

You have to try different wines, to find what you like. I can't stand things like White Zinfandel but I like Bordeaux and Cotes Du Rhone wines. The Cotes especially because of the blackberry/plum flavors.

Now if given the choice I'll take a nice single malt or a straight bourbon instead smile
