The sticking gas pedal problem turned out to be, for the most part, a consumer hoax. It was similar to the "syringes in Diet Pepsi" thing that happened a few decades ago. In both cases, the first reported incident seemed to have some credibility, or at least nobody was able confirm one way or the other. Everything after that was consumers intentionally creating the problem in hopes of jumping onto the lawsuit bandwagon and making a quick buck. The companies were able to point out the fraud, but of course that part of it never really made it to the front pages after all the hysteria.

they staked their entire company on clean diesels

There is no such thing as clean diesels. As much as these companies want to sell that, the term is misleading, it's a lie, and it's false advertising.

Kinda sad how everyone get's all bent out of shape over some stinky diesel engines but we'll stand idle and allow gun mfg's to sell military German and Russian assault rifles to anybody in the U.S. that wants them with no BG check, testing, licensing, or certifications.

But I digress

I agree. They should have stuck with tanks.
They may have destroyed the VW brand with this nonsense, at least in America.

Are you surprised that not one GM exec has gone to prison after covering up the airbag disabling defect that has caused deaths?

I'm in an echeck county too but I was able to get my Viper registered as a collector car even though it's <20YO so I don't need to get tested... are your cars able to be registered as such?

As compared to what? Even before DEF was introduced, diesels emitted lower CO/CO2 than gas engines, and DEF is supposed to reduce NOx by up to 90%. It's also got a higher MPG rating for an equivalent gas car, so you have a higher energy capacity per unit. And moving back to infrastructure, it takes less energy to refine crude into diesel as compared to gasoline, so it wins there too.

I'm not comparing. If you want to use the word "clean" and then use the word "diesel, gasoline, or coal" next, I'm calling that BS. There is no such thing in burning anything as being clean. It's a lie, a myth, and it's false. It's like calling dust clean dirt.

There is no manufacturers of any weapons selling to anyone in this country without a background check. There are no "military" automatic weapons being sold to anyone in this country without not only a background check but a special license to own one.

Nope, none of them. And the only older car I own now is a third gen Camaro (car I drove in high school hahaha), which when I get the motorwork and etc finally done - it can be registered as an antique at this point.

But still, what VW done pisses me off big time because I've had to battle with that aspect so much!

After riding around with me in my truck, your skin tone would be Ghost white!

I am pleasantly surprised that 3rd an 20 found a pic of my truck!
I can peel out, digging a trench in the road and at the same time refill that trench with soot and tar! Murica.

Thanks to me friends at V dubbia, I can pass emissions too.

They will rebound. They are the largest car manufacturer in the world - just waiting for the right time to buy their stock.

They do have a lot riding on "clean diesel", which like PerfectSpiral I've always chuckled at, but it isn't the whole company. I'm a huge Audi fan, so I am a little bias, but I do think they will be fine.

The US is the only place this is affecting, the rest of the world doesn't care as much, so VW will be fine.

GM committed a systemic screw up while VW committed an intentional large scale Fraud.

Big diff, bigger punishment earned.

As you wish, I just think this will kill diesel sales in the US and as compared to gas it has alot of advantages. But I do agree on the "clean" moniker, I shook my head at the clean coal initiatives some years ago also...
