wonder how far MSU will fall after this potential loss.

what in the heck did I just watch?? UM = Browns loss
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Question for you college fb experts. LSU just ran a fake FG for a TD. The holder threw a pass from his holding position with his knee on the ground. My son wanted to know why he wasn't ruled down on that play.

I wouldn't want to be the guy who botched that snap in that locker room right about now.
The snap was a bit low, but any punter should be able to handle that normally.
What I'm still trying to understand, why didn't the punter go down or throw a pass? If he goes down, MSU is out of FG range and has only 7 seconds left. If he throws a pass downfield, it goes incomplete and MSU is in even worse field position because MSU gets the ball back at the LOS with has even less time left.
When I saw it, I thought of Garo Yepremian.
And that will go down as one of the most iconic game-ending plays, ever. Cal/Stanford "The Play" Auburn's Kick-6 "The Agony in Ann Arbor"

There has to be a rule that makes the holder not down because then every FG attempt would be stopped before the kick.

But in college football, a ball carrier is down when your knee touches the ground, regardless if an opposing player touches them. But like I said, there has to be a special exception for the holder.
Also, the botched punt saved D'Antoni. Why burn a timeout before 4th and 19? Just run a play if you know you're going for it. That cost them 40+ seconds.

ARTICLE 3. A live ball becomes dead and an official shall sound his whistle or declare it dead:
a. When it goes out of bounds other than a kick that scores a field goal after touching the uprights or crossbar; when a ball carrier is out of bounds; or when a ball carrier is so held that his forward progress is stopped. When in question, the ball is dead (A.R. 4-2-1-II).
b. When any part of the ball carrier’s body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground or when the ball carrier is tackled or otherwise falls and loses FR-58 Rule 4 / Ball in Play, Dead Ball, Out of Bounds possession of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his body, except his hand or foot [Exception: The ball remains alive when an offensive player has simulated a kick or at the snap is in position to kick the ball held for a place kick by a teammate. The ball may be kicked, passed or advanced by rule] (A.R. 4-1-3-I).

Excellent observation. That was dumb as hell.
--Man........the ending to that game was one of the most unlikely, craziest endings in the history of football.
--I really enjoyed that game. I prefer that type of football as opposed to how teams in the Big 12 play football.
---Paxton Lynch looked very good for Memphis. I thought his arm strength was very good. I would like to see him improve his footwork, though.
--I thought Florida played very well considering their qb was lost for the year.
--I am terrible w/names, but I really like that DE/OLB for Texas A&M.

A college wrap up show said that MSUs chances to win were 0.2% based on previous outcomes in football history. I would have thought it would be lower.
I feel for the punter. He's got to go to class tomorrow. I could only imagine.
Dan LeBetard was talking about the joy and agony of sports and why he thinks it justifies the salaries and fame they have, especially against other entertainers (actors and musicians). At any point in almost any game, THAT can happen to you and you'll be branded the rest of your life. Actors and musicians make mistakes, but they get retakes. The punter, Elvis Andrus, and all the way back to Earnest Byner and Scott Norwood. They only get one take at that play. Heck, it played out that way for Steve Bartman and he was a fan.
For the punters sake, I hope He can redeem himself this season. I know this is a pro-OSU board and I dislike UM too, but having that punter make a key kick in a playoff game would be nice to see.

Hell yes! 19th, baby. Once their receivers started catching the ball, they are pretty much unstoppable. Can't wait for the NIU game, they've been a pain in UT's butt for years.
