no, Pettine has taken players that have had success in this league and coached them down. he can't develop talent, so its the chicken or egg. You just get rid of the whole coop and try again

We've been competitive this year. Heck, just today's game shows that. Major let down in the second half, yeah.

Last thing we need to do is fire coaches and trade assets.

I think people forget that we were competitive under Shurmur and Chud as well. Actually, you could argue we were more competitive under them than Pettine.

The only coach we weren't competitive under was Mangini year 1, games 1-12.

This notion that we are somehow more competitive under Pettine than the others is prisoner of the moment type of thinking.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

That is where I am really naïve.

I thought it was obvious. That is why there is doom and gloom throughout the board. Why guys don't post. Why ...

I won't get in to the first half of this post, because I'm not sure what generational wealth has to do with anything. I'm not much of a class warfare guy if that was some of the angle you were taking. If not, I apologize.

The context of the point was that Pettine, like any assistant who would have jumped into the meltdown disaster, which was the situation when he got the gig, would receive enough money to not only live the rest of his life comfortably, but his kids will as well.

What would we do if that opportunity presented itself?

So, these guys are willing to put up with the stress, the attacks upon their character and intelligence, and the degrading ways these things almost always end.

Its a big part of the deal.

Yep. Any one of us would take that kind of life changing money to be bashed day in and day out for a couple years. Fire me and get paid? Where do I sign up? Pettine and everyone else in Berea could care LESS about anything being said by ANYONE whether it is the media, the fans or anyone else. These folks are GETTING PAID handsomely. Nothing else matters. This is what happens when the BUSINESS side of the team excels and the football side is left to rot. Haslam and his team have executed their BUSINESS strategy wonderfully. Stadium upgrades, drafting the hype machine to sell tickets and jerseys, uniform changes, etc. Anyone buying anything from this crappy football franchise fell for the sales pitch hook, line and sinker. What's the old saying? A fool and his money are soon parted? Well, the fool is in YOUR mirror folks. Sorry, but that's the truth.

I am not a fan of this regime, but that is a load of crap. You obviously never played the game or coached the game. Thinking he doesn't care about winning or losing is freaking ignorant!

Nor were we competitive against the Rams. The only teams we are pretty even with are the dregs of the league. The Titans for instance....

Our defense flat out sucks even tought we year after year take defense in the first. Pettine was supposed to be a defensive guru. The guy that ran the Jets D when they were a top five D every year. Well, our defense is bottom five.

I hate that it has come to this but.... it IS time to clean house again and hope Haslam grows a brain this time.

Farmer HAS to go. Pettine needs to go. They ALL need to go.

Perhaps so, but he sure doesn't SHOW he cares. He stands there on the sidelines with that scowl on his face while the team implodes around him.

I think the context of Beast's post is very important for the rest of the board to process. My hope is that he actually has played at a high level and coached at a high level, so he could establish another example of "ignorance."

I don't think he's ignorant for what he said.

No one thinks Pettine doesn't want to win.

Many are starting to develop the opinion that he doesn't know how. That's the bottom line. Isn't it? The bottom line is that many of us are starting to look at Pet, we are taking down the dawgtalker honeymoon fortress we've built around him, and dealing with the harsh possibility that ... he isn't a winner.

Neither did Tom Landry, and he was a damn fine coach.

If we were winning people would say the Pettine is stoic and even-keeled.

Inaccurate - the correct version of this statement is:

"...but when the producer cuts in a camera shot of him (which may or may not be being shown as-it-happens), I feel like I'm being shown the face of someone that doesn't SHOW he cares. He stands there on the sidelines with that scowl on his face while the team implodes around him."

I've said it before, and I say it again now: basing your opinion of what & who you THINK someone is based upon what you are being selectively shown by someone attempting to produce a television entertainment product is colossally insane and short-sighted. You are not necessarily being show things as they are - you are being shown what the producer thinks will make for "good TV".

I don't think that's the case at all with live football. They'll cut to the coaches reactions from previous plays but they won't run back to footage of a coach that portrays something that's not really going on live right then. Sure after the game is over they show all sorts of good TV fatty matter.

Did Colts fans hate Tony Dungy for never showing any emotion?

Not the same.

Tony Dungy was 54-42 when he joined the Colts and was 85-27 with the colts.

So you're saying winning changes our perceptions on the how the coach reacts?

Shocking.

It's entertainment television production - they have all kinds of time and resources to pull things in, as well as a small tape-delay which allows them buffer time buffer time to make it work.

The impression they try to give is that they don't do it, that you are being shown things as they happen, but at the same time the guy producing and telling who to cut which feed in and out and when can just as easily tell someone to store a certain reaction or look and then call it back up in an instant.

I really don't put much relevance on the image which is chosen to be put on TV. However, after reading the game day thread, and people who were focused on Pettine, I do give their observations more relevance.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
